Al N. Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 At the suggestion of Bob S., I'm starting this thread to serve as a clearinghouse for any ideas on what would make a good centralized meet location — a place which is roughly equidistant from Se7eners on both coasts. So far, Kansas, South Dakota, and Colorado/Wyoming have come up in other threads or offline discussion. I'd throw Indy out there too, but it's a bit East Coast-biased. I won't have much energy for planning another meet until 7-7-7 is in the books, but please discuss amongst yourselves. Also, note that having some troops on the ground in the target location helps loads. The Dragon isn't that close to me...a day's drive...but we have some Se7eners in the area to make things easier.Al Navarro2007-03-25 17:07:18
slomove Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Before we can decide WHERE to meet I think we should discuss HOW to meet. I learned from my Pacific Northwest Tour organization effort that you just don't get many people on a 2 week tour. However, for a one-week trip it is almost impossible to drive 1500 miles or more, do something together and drive back home again. Well, of course it is possible but more an endurance challenge than a vacation. That said, personally I would love to do another 2 week tour sometimes. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/smile5.gif Maybe there is somebody on this list with good connections to the transport industry who has an idea how to get our cars to/from a central location at reasonable cost. Gert P.S.: I had suggested South Dakota for totally self serving reasons....I always wanted to see the area of Badlands NP, Black Hills, Mt Rushmore etc. which is said to have >beautiful blatting roads. And without the incentive of such a tour I will probably never get my Seven there. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/cryin.gifslomove2007-03-25 20:39:00
DeanG Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 This may be a bit of hearsay; however is there a possibility of hooking up with Lotus Ltd’s Lotus Owners Gathering (LOG 28)? A combined meet or associated meet could work. Certainly the driving events could take all comers: auto-X, tours and track day. Traditionally the Lotus Ltd concourse has classes for Lotus 7’s, Caterham 7’s, and others. Dinner and picnicking is dinner and picnicking.
slngsht Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Traditionally the Lotus Ltd concourse has classes for Lotus 7’s, Caterham 7’s, and others. Dean, does 'others' mean other brands or other Lotuses?
DeanG Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 “Other” means that I can’t remember what it is usually called. I recall that sometimes there were two categories. One category was for cars that were in the spirit of a particular Lotus model (e.g., 7’s, 23’s to cover homebuilt cars as well as those from the likes of Birkin and Westfield and etc.). Another category was for whatever else anyone brought with a lotus theme (I recall a peddle car taking home the top trophy another year the Lotus Starship tour buss won). Things have varied over the years. It depends a great deal on what both the national club and the local club want and what is expected to show up. This year I think there will be more than the usual number of race cars and 7’s at the Colorado LOG this year. This will be due to more people towing their cars than usual. If you are going pull a trailer you might as well fill up the interesting cars. Email me privately if you like.
locost7018 Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 I tried to get people to Kansas City last labor day to the KC All British car show. No one came except Julian and me. We could try again this year if there is any interest or on some other weekend. It would be almost impossible to do any speed events unless we tagged along with a scheduled autox or track day at Topeka Heartland track. Lots of nice roads and things to see around here along with the greatest BBQ in the nation. My house is located in Shawnee, Ks and it has a large shaded lot for showing cars and picnic if we wanted to keep costs down. Some could even camp if they wanted. Two hotels within a half a mile of my house. I have been scoping out good roads to drive on and could have self guided trips or go en masse, etc. How fancy do you want???
