Croc
Great little video of Subaru's attempt on the IOM TT circuit production car lap record [/url]
Kitcat
Well, that was terrifying! The video says the action wasn't sped up, but watching the speedometer go from 140 t0 160 in a few seconds was a little hard to believe. I had a nearly identical spec Evo VIII and anything above 140 mph was slow going. Now my '08 M3, yeah.
BMW RACER
As David Hobbs says "HUGE ATTACHMENTS" Let's see Ken Block top that!! I especially like from the 4:00 mark where they show the major tank slapper. Looked like he was putting out a fire with one hand and fighting off a bear with the other. I'm amazed he saved that. Usually when you start having to take your hands off the wheel that's a recipe for disaster!

Croc
Supposedly it was done with a US production spec car. I thought the current Subaru Impreza WRX model was a bit anemic in the power department? I recall more motoring writers getting excited over the latest Evo. If it was not speeded up then it must have been good camera angles/settings to get the best sense of movement. One of these days I would love to drive that circuit in a seven - nowhere near as fast mind you....
MoPho
Mark is an old friend of mine, we were on the Hyundai Rally team together ( I was team photographer) back in 02. Great driver and really fun to hang around. I had one of my most drunken nights of my life with him and some other team members after he had won the championship. His brother David is also an amazing driver.

The Subaru has around 300hp, it has always had a bit more grunt than the Evo (stock for stock) but the Evo had a better chassis and is a sharper stick in the handling dept. The 2011 STI has a much more stiff chassis than the previous GR's. (2008-current)

(2008-current) I was including suspension and steering as part of chassis set up. Evo's have always had a more aggressive set up out of the box, which is why it always lost the Evo in magazine comparison tests

I wouldn't say that it was always more aggressive though. I am a little biased towards Subaru though.

I am biased towards Subaru as well, I've had two of them and used to work on one of the Subaru Rally teams. I've also worked on a couple of Evo vs STI magazine comparison tests and the Evo always came out ahead (despite my attempts to skew the results  ). I've always felt the biggest problem was that they always put slowish steering racks on the STI
