Lime Rock SCDA Oct. 29th

There is a advanced HPDE at Lime Rock on Saturday October 29th. It would be fun to have some Sevens there. It's a bit pricey for half a day, but they get in 4 sessions per run group. I'll be there!

There is also a Mohawk Hudson Region SCCA HPDE the week before at Lime Rock that I also plan to attend!

Croc, can I borrow that diffuser?

Well I want another track day before the year is out. Not ideal since I will need to be on my best behavior - not as much run off room if I decide to go gardening...

I know it is only half day but Tom, Michael, Dermot, Stewart - want to try for a rerun of our June event? Ian Prout said he wanted us back despite our mischief.

New cars for Ron and Martin - want to join in?

And Karl...no, you go and buy your own diffuser once you see me fly past you on the straight! :jester: and then you will discover it is my new secret weapon...

Mike,

What, are you running straight pipes now as part of the secret sauce? Or is the diffuser creating that much turbulence noise?

I am planning on just keeping the revs under 8000 so I'll be compliant. Never tested my car for db though.

LOL....I always thought it was below 4000 :jester:

Seriously, the standard CSR usually runs around 93-95db area based on blatchat and CSR forum. Your car is suspiciously much quieter than mine yet it looks to have the same exhaust. Most of my noise is induction once I get above 4000rpm - those roller barrells open wide and just start sucking.

Have you run Lime Rock before? How do they test for noise?

I have a phone call into Pocono about hiring it out....wishful thinking. Plus I also have calls in on Oct 25 and Nov 13 at Thunderbolt - a bike track group operate car sessions. I was hoping Tom would come up with the goods re a members day at NJMP but alas I understand he is working on his speedo tan lines :cooldude: down the Jersey shore.

I have not driven at Lime Rock yet so I don't know how they test for noise. I am on a wait list for a Metro NY PCA event in September so I guess I'll find out. I'll ask someone this weekend how strict they are.

RTR (Philly) PCA has an event at Pocono that anyone is welcome to come to on September 16-18. The thing about PCA is they are strict about instructors untill you have been signed off by a PCA club.

Comment from Ian Prout of SDCA on Lime Rock strictness re noise:

"Lime Rock Park is VERY strict on sound. If a car is over 86dB they will force the car to stop driving. From our experience in JUNE, I can tell you without question that the vast majority of Sevens would not meet sound. Sorry about that, track rules, not my own."

That's a disappointment. I'll have to get out my meter.

I would give Lime Rock a call to see how they test. It might be at a distance from the straight or it may be at the tailpipe at a certain level of revs. Your car is quieter than mine so you have a better chance than I do.

Ron - trust me, I want to see your car on the track to since I expect it to be blisteringly fast. I am searching for suitable track days close by where we can get a group going.

I apparently Lime Rock has locals monitoromg the noise from the side of the track. The instructors should let you know where they are so you can lift as you pass by them.

I think Lime Rock would be a fitting place for Ron's maiden track day.

Croc, just so you feel better I had four wheels off at Watkins Glen on my first lap of the weekend. Apparently cold slicks don't stick all that well. :(

Mike, If you rent Pocono, I have a place up there that we can all stay at.

As for the Member day at NJMP, let me know when you are back and I'll get you in. It will have to be a qualified member day for you guys to drive in the intermidiate or Advanced groups, otherwise you're stuck in the novice no passing group on non Quailified days. FYI, Nov 12 and 13 are the last member day events on tbolt and lightning. If you are around let me know. Just checked, Sat. Nov. 12th is a Qualified members day if you are up for it.

BTW so is this Saturday Aug 27th. If you are in country, let me know.

Actually I dont feel better - more . There is not much room for error at Watkins Glen unlike NJMP where there is a huge dustbowl to spin around in :D. And yes any cold tires are good for not gripping - welcome to the club!

Apart from your cardio heart starter from going off track, was it a good day?

My off was not too bad. I went into a corner too quickly for my cold tires. I braked a little late (like i normally did with warm tires) the tires locked up and I could not turn. Thankfully, I kept some control of the car and stayed on the pavement.

Otherwise Saturday was a great day. We got in five runs of 30 min each. Today was interment heavy thunderstorms.

The track chairman thought I might be OK at Lime Rock. Several guys suggested some sort of a baffle, one even suggested a makeshift soda can with holes shoved in the exhaust!
