Project Beatrice. (1999 Birkin S3)

Got some more work done on the car today. Finally got the radiator feed line to the pump fabbed up. It's a real pain to do as the steering arms and the bracket for the steering assembly is real close to the feed from the bottom of the rad.

I also got the backplate drilled and cleaned up for the intake. Unfortunately it looks like ass when the hood is attached. I tried offsetting the backplate to make it look good through the hood opening, but unfortunately because of the way the trumpets fit under the filter I couldn't offset it enough to look good under the hood. It will end up bugging me forever so I imagine I'll be looking for a scoop to cover the hole. So first question to all you fine enthusiasts is where you may find a scoop for covering the hood opening?

I have another question as well. In working on the intake, I hooked up the throttle cable, and had great success on the intake, but I'm missing parts for hooking the cable up to the accelerator pedal. I'm hoping that I could get some volunteers to take some detail shots of the throttle cable hook up. Further to that, if the shots are from a Birkin, it would be greatly appreciated as I have a few parts laying around but no reference for where they go or if they are even for my car.

Duane - I don't know of any available scoops that would work for you. I would think someone would have to do a one-off fabrication to fit the Birkin opening.

Here's a photo I took of my accelerator pedal on my 2001 Birkin. I circled three of the components, they are as follows:

Red: Block that outer cable ferrule sits in.

Green: Accel pedal with inner cable.

Yellow: Accel pedal WOT stop.

Thanks a lot for the picture. I am missing the parts that hold the cable (red) and the parts that hold the cable in the pedal end. (green)

I don't suppose there are pictures of the parts that hold the outer and inner cables in the pedal box and the pedal respectively?

Why dont you just do this and buldge it out a bit at the front, its what I did, you could paint it black to suite the car, made from the mesh that custom cars use for the front grills found in most automotive shops.

Duane - Hope these photos help.

Thanks Bruce!! Last night I went through my parts and found the one that gtes the cotter pin. I couldn't find the other so I'll have to make it. Looks simple enough, a 1cm aluminum dowl drilled all the way for the cable and half way for the cable outer protection

Thanks! I have seen that on your car before. I'll take all options into consideration. Since it is not needed to run, I'll focus more intently on it later.

Is Beatrice running yet? Hows the build coming along Duanne....

Not running yet, but a bit of progress.

I found the one bit for the accelerator cable that goes in the pedal, but had to fab the other. I used a couple sections of aluminum dowel, and put one inside the other. I wanted to allow a small amount of twist in the joint so I drilled the inner dowel slightly larger than the outer for the cotter pin.

I pressed the assembly into the pedal box and set up the throttle as best as I know how.

Today was an exciting day though. I finally got the car to her new home for the next couple weeks. Vex Performance will be wiring in the ECU and doing the first turn on the motor. I could barely sleep last night knowing the progress soon to be made.

First rainy day for Beatrice.

And a plug for the shop.

Yup, now its getting exciting. Looks like you will be ready for the Vancouver Island gig..O:-)

That has always been part of the goal. There is still some work to be done, but it's moving in the right direction.

This gives me a week at least to sort out some of the other things in my life, while it's getting worked on by the shop.

Will try to get theflywheel back on my engine this week, waiting for some parts to arrive from the UK for the tranny, once they arrive I can get the whole tranny engine back together and do the transplant operation on MADGE. Talk about withdrawal....

I'd be interested in reading a blog you keep on Madge. Do you have a running blog for her?

It has been a little nice to have this last week off from working on the car. I have caught up on some reading/video games/ and car shopping....

I did get to peek at Beatrice and the progress being made on her. I cannot wait...
