slngsht Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 How is it mounted to the frame? When I got my car it came with a nose cone, but no brackets or fasteners of any kind on the nose cone, and nothing on the chassis. The nose cone does have two tiny holes right above each other on each side, just behind where the mounting bracket for the headlights would go through. If you have a pic, post it up...
aidanparte Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 The nose attaches with four Dzus fasteners, two near the headlamps and two on the lower rear edge of the nose. The two parts are riveted to the body and the nose I believe. Aidan
MHKflyer52 Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Hi Mazda, Here is a link with a photo of the top mount for a Caterham Nose cone mount. It uses a tab with a Zuse fastener spring clip to hold the nose cone. http://www.mycaterham.com/66828/66132.html?*session*id*key*=*session*id*val* I mounted my nose cone by adding a couple of tabs and putting rivnuts in them and then screwing the nose cone on to the car if that helps. If you look at the right side of the nose cone in the attached photo you can see the top tab and the rivnut. Hope this helps.
slngsht Posted March 24, 2012 Author Posted March 24, 2012 Thanks. That's the way my Rotus was too. Just wanted to do it the same way as Cat does it.
MHKflyer52 Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Mazda, So wheh are we going to see some more prograss photos......:cooldude:.....
slngsht Posted March 24, 2012 Author Posted March 24, 2012 not much progress to report lately. I bought a smithy granite 1324 last week, and have to get garage ready to get it in here. The only thing on the car is mounting the radiator and the last motor mount. If I get motivated enough to put a floor on, I might tow it out to WV and drive it up and down the road in front of my brother's property - just to get a feel for the car.
scannon Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 My SV has a Dzus fasterner on each side near where the headlight bracket goes through. The bottom of the nose cone has a lip that sits over and a bit around the front most bottom transverse frame tube. Easier to get off and on than the newer ones with two more Dzus fasteners under the nose cone but probably not as stable.
slngsht Posted March 25, 2012 Author Posted March 25, 2012 Skip, yeah, looks like my nose cone just mounts on the sides by the headlights
scannon Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Does the lower lip at the bottom back have a profile something like this:
bsimon Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Here's an older Caterham with the 4 Dzus fasteners. top and Bottom. The anchors are brazed to the top and front chassis rails.
