It’s a sad day for me, but I think it is time to sell my car. There are a lot of things that are changing in my life over the next year and as a result, I will have to let it go if I can find a good home for it. I have driven it during the summer for the past 4 years and it has brought me a lot of enjoyment. Everything works perfectly. This car has never let me down, or left me stranded at the side of the road. The ride is relatively smooth, with no raddles or squeaks. The car is practical enough to be driven every day or taken on a vacation, while still shining at car shows. I get thumbs up every time I drive the car. It has been enjoyed, but never abused or raced. It has never spent a night, or winter’s day outside. It has spent most of its life in an insulated garage.

The car is powered by a fuel injected Ford 5.0L V8, which I love having in this car. The engine has always started on the first crank, and runs very smooth. The sound of the V8 brings shivers down my spine every time I hear the engine start. The torque from the engine is intense and feels never ending, from about 1800rpm and up. The car is so light that the engine effortlessly brings it up to speed. It’s like having a V8 Mustang with half the weight. The rev limiter was removed from the computer so the engine is capable of turning 7000+rpm. Despite all of this power, the car actually gets reasonable fuel economy (yes, I keep track). Due to the cars’ light weight, the engine does not need to work very hard, or use much gas to get up to speed. It averages about 10.5L/100km in mixed city/Hwy driving, which is comparable to the real world fuel economy of a midsize sedan.

The car has full weather equipment, including a convertible top and doors. With the doors on, very little wind noise comes into the cockpit. This does an excellent job of forcing the air over your head, so you can enjoy the sunshine in the day or the stars at night, without wind blasting in your face. If you like the wind to blast in your face, it takes 5mins to remove the 2 bolts that hold the doors on, and you can enjoy the open car feel to the fullest.

That appears to be a lot of car for the money, or bang for the buck.

Does anybody know what would be involved bringing this car to the US?

Is it titled as a 2009? thanks

Yes, the title is a 2009. To legally register it in Ontario, I needed to have a VIN assigned to the car, which was done in 2009.

I don't know what would be involved if you wanted to bring this car to the USA, but I would be willing to work with anyone who is interested. I don't mind bringing the car across the boarder. I also have an American (mph) speedometer that I could put into the car.

If I'm not mistaken, a car cannot be imported to the States until it is has been registered for at least 25 years.

If I'm not mistaken, that is only true of some cars. You may be thinking of the bumper requirement. According to the website shown below, "Passenger cars manufactured after September 1, 1973 must also meet bumper standards". There are many foreign vehicles manufactured after 1973 which do not meet the minimum standards for bumpers in Canada and the USA, which is why they cannot be imported. Canada has a requirement that bumpers must withstand a 8km/h impact for production cars only. Since my car is a custom vehicle, there was no practical way to prove it could do this, so I was exempt of this requirement. This may be true in the USA as well, but I think it may vary by state.

This site outlines the steps needed to import into the USA:

http://www.bordercenter.org/chem/vehicles.htm

Another option is that I could export the car as a "race car".

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but I believe that home builts cannot be imported into the US or Canada for road use, for a seven or cobra etc it has to be factory built. Other than that it can be imported as strictly a track/racing vehicle for non-road use.

In Canada if a person lies about the importation and is found out the authorities confiscate the vehicle and crush it.

You are on the right track. Over 25 years old home built can be imported. Under 25 years old cannot. Here is my personal example - I have a 24 year old race car (Holden) that was originally converted from a street car never originally sold in the US. US Customs guys want an official Manufacturers Certificate of Origin to say it was manufactured exclusively as a track/race car 24 years ago. Putting aside that the manufacturer does not issue those certificates, my car was originally derived from a road car so any certificate would not help me even though the car is so modified and set up as a track car that it could never be driven on a street. I have to wait until it in its 26th year to import it.

If you want to import then have it pre-cleared in a review by the US Customs because the documentation they want is a real problem.

Anyway...back to our scheduled program. Nice car. I always have huge respect for any Locost builder as they built their cars the hard way! No idiot-proof lego kit caterham for them! :D

Good to see you here on the board!

you should post your youtube videos

I don't really have any good videos, but this is one of me on the track a couple of years ago, before the car was painted. Sorry for the wind noise:
