Guest Terry
Has anybody ever looked at our membership and figured out who owns what and how many of each 7 derivative we have?
xcarguy
A thread could be started for each make of car where each member could post his/her car specs (just one post-nothing more) on that particular thread. Might work as long as the thread doesn't get hi-jacked . . . just a thought.

Just add a link to the build under each persons "registered" car, so that visitors can easily navigate from one build to another. My other car clubs have always made these lists sticky, so they are always at the top. The problem is that a Moderator would have to keep the thread clean, or locked and add the cars/links under the apporiate make/model. To keep the list orderly, I would suggest that it get broken into major makes only, and not differenciate between the various models within the make. Within this thread we can start by just having folks add the cars and someone copying the links into a new thread. I also suggest that it be organized alphabetically so the Birkin is at the top. haha. I'll start here if that works: Duane Jacka (Jackal) 1999 Birkin S3 Edited March 27, 2013 by Jackal
rnr
We could create a poll with each major brand/model (eg: S2 Lotus, Caterham CSR, Birkin, etc...) as an option. It would mean that folks with multiple could only get one but I'd think that it would be a relatively uncommon case and they can always comment on the poll to tell us what the second car is. xcarguy
Here's a thought (or question) that's more for the forum moderator. Is it possible to: A) create a thread for each manufacturer; B) to limit members to post once (one post per thread) within a particular thread (would prevent the threads from being hi-jacked); and C) allow any member unlimited editing of his/her particular post within the thread (allows for changes regarding a car's status or, for example, adding an additional car of the same make)? Again, just a thought. Edited March 27, 2013 by xcarguy

Just adding a couple pennies to your comments here. 1)If a newcomer wanted to reveiw the differences between the manufacturers then there would be a little back and fourth clicking between threads. It would be easier to find each respective manufacturer, but less of an overall reference of who owns what in the club, and where to find it. If all the members are listed on a single page under manufaturers then someone reseaching the differences between makes would only have to scroll down and click to open build threads. 2)I think that ability is restricted to voting within a thread. 3)I would guess that members would rely more on thier respective build threads to keep us updated on the car, and forget to list updates or changes on the main thread, quickly making the thread outdated. Good points, all. However, let me clarify (and sorry for misleading), I view the individual posts as being purely an owner’s registry rather than build threads such as those found in the Member Rides file. To reiterate, one post per owner with very basic information about their car and the owner having editing privileges of his/her particular post. Using my car for example, the original post (representing when the car was first built) may have read something like this: Manufacturer: Brunton Automotive Chassis: #85, Classis Stalker Title/Titled as: 1964 Lotus 7 Engine: L67 Supercharged V6 Transmission: 1997 Camaro V6 5-speed Rear end: Solid axle with Torsen LSD, 3.45:1 Color: Red Now that my car has undergone drive train changes, I could go back and edit the post to reflect the car’s current status, such as: Manufacturer: Brunton Automotive Chassis: #85, Classic Stalker Title/Titled as: 1964 Lotus 7 Engine: LS6 V8 Transmission: Tremec TKO 5-speed built by Liberty Performance with .82 OD Rear end: Solid axle with Torsen LSD, 3.23:1 Color: Red Something you hit on, as well as others on this thread (and it makes really good sense) is to simply put all of these owner-specific posts (for lack of a better term) in a single thread labeled Owner’s Registry, or something to that effect. This could be placed in the General section as a separate folder or perhaps placed within, with a default to the top of, the Member Rides folder. Another idea within the thread would be to limit each posts title to simply read Birkin, Caterham, etc. (maybe chosen from a dropdown list created by the moderator). Once a post is placed, have the post to ‘post’ alphabetically (yes, yes, all Birkin owners to the top ). If two posts are placed on the same day, and each post is of like manufacturer, allow each post to ‘post’ alphabetically with respect to time and date of entry. However, the one place I could see the ‘manufacturer’s title’ idea posing a problem is if someone happened to own two Lotus 7 style cars with each car having been produced by a different manufacturer; case in point, DE in Kansas owns both a Brunton and a Birkin. In that case, the owner could request/receive permission from the moderator to place a second post within the thread (each post representing each car). Here is a pretty good link to all/most of the manufacturers out there. Scroll about a third of the way down the page to view the manufacturers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_Seven Edited March 27, 2013 by xcarguy
Z3 Stalker
By that list it looks like Birkin will be third on the list
xcarguy
By that list it looks like Birkin will be third on the list Technically speaking, we Stalker boys should be near the top of that list (Brunton) instead of mid pack or so. :toetap05:
rx7locost
I feel us "Book" builders are being left out. At least we will come before the Brunton guys, alphabetically speaking.

Scroll about a third of the way down the page to view the manufacturers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_Seven I actually really like the inclusion of the drivetrain. When I'm looking to creep in on a build thread to see how other Birkin owners sort out driveline specific changes, this would seriously cut down on the search time. I also like the way you laid out your build as a post, I would include a hypelink to the build thread as well. By that list it looks like Birkin will be third on the list Only if there are Almacs or Aries in the club. Technically speaking, we Stalker boys should be near the top of that list (Brunton) instead of mid pack or so. :toetap05: Agreed. I feel us "Book" builders are being left out. At least we will come before the Brunton guys, alphabetically speaking. We could List all the others as Custom too.

I don't see why we couldnt just start the thread and move it around as needed.
rx7locost
We could List all the others as Custom too. I thought all Sevens were "custom". It is just a matter of degree, no? But, jut how many Book(Champion), McSorley (+4 or +442), or Haynes (Gibbs), or?? scratch builders are there on this site? I guess we will not know until we start logging them. But really, In order to keep some sort of reality to the list, I'd suggest asking people to only list their cars when they are either licensed for the street or tracked for the first time. There are many who start build logs and never get past the cutting of a few pieces of steel on the LocostUSA site. Some don't even get that far. I wouldn't count them as cars just yet. It will just muddy the numbers.

Yes, I know "Book" would have fallen in that category too though. lol
rx7locost
Hey, No offense taken. I was just poking at the sleeping bear just for fun. Sometimes dry humor doesn't translate in a text based forum. It does seem like I am in the minority on this site being a scratch build. That's OK by me. But on this topic, lumping all scratch builds together seems a bit much because there are so many variations as I mentioned. But I'm really not sure how you could make smaller logical groups without making the groups a group of one. BTW, I love your Light a man a fire, you keep him warm for an evening. Light a man ON fire, you keep him warm the rest of his life. I'm still awaiting the right place to bring it up in casual conversation.
MHKflyer52
Ok just to poke fun at the folks who would be upset by the order of a data base here is a photo of the data plate on my Clone / Replica / Locost / What ever Lotus 7. The data plate says it is an ALDO TS1 Lotus Super 7 so would that put it first on the date list.....LOL.... Here is a photo of the data plate as it is mounted to the firewall. I tell people that its is scratch built by me which it is and when asked why the data plate says what it says I explane that when I made it for the car the Aldo TS1 in the name was my wifes idea and reflects on my heritage as my mother was Italian hence the Aldo reference and the TS1 refers to Testosterone Special which also was the idea of my wife and that I thought it would make a good and funny conversation when someone asks plus it makes it unique as any 7 is which we all know. Manufacture: Rellek Power Master Newberg OR. (which is my last name backwards) Manufacture Number: *OR18V80AEL6478* Chassis Number: ALDO TS1 Title/Titled as: 1963 Lotus 7 Engine: BMC 1800cc (MGB Engine) Transmission: MGB - 4 Speed - Read End: MGB Solid Axle Tube Type - Modified Four Link Panhard - Color: School Bus Yellow an Bare Aluminum :jester:
