hey centerfireman (and all),

unfortunately, progress has been slower than expected . . . the engine isn't out yet, but the cleanup has started. now you can see the firewall! what a dirty, crummy job . . . .

looking at the photos is a good way to go through the parts i still need . . . if you see something charred, chances are i may need it. in particular, the clamshells and the nose, the master cylinder, dipstick, various cables, etc. . . . if you have anything you think i could use, please PM me.

i asked this in a previous post, but i could really use some advice on the FG nose and clamshells . . . from whom should i buy these parts? do they come with all the right holes for mounting, emblems, turn signals, etc.? do they come green, or do i have to paint them?

another question: are all you X-flow guys running K&N filters on the DCOE's? as you may recall, the backfire set them on fire, so i'm loathe to use them again . . . any thoughts about (a) K&N's, (b) foam socks, © RAMAIR (item 390572713685 on eBay), (d) no filters at all, (e) ???

thanks for checking in . . .

Hi Alan,

Unfortunately, I haven't turned up much that would be of use to you.

Regarding the fiberglass parts (and others you may need for that matter), I'd start with Caterham USA. As far as I know, the glass parts are generally available gelcoated, at least in the "standard" colors.

Alan,

I have a set of clams, nose and a set of rear fenders as well (in red - no emblem).

I was saving them for a future project, but yours seems like a worthy cause and my wife would be happy to get them out of here.

There's some cracks and even some splitting in them, so they will need some fiberglass repair, but you're welcome to them if you please.

I live in San Jose, (and I'd prefer not to ship due to their size). You're welcome to come pick them up at any time. I'll save them for you.

  • 11 months later...

greetings! well, it's been a little over a year, and my Caterham is FINALLY back on the road . . . its maiden voyage was to the Queen's English British Car Show in the San Fernando Valley yesterday (Sunday).

here she is in the middle of two other Caterhams, resplendant in her navy blue nose and fenders.

a HUGE "thank you" again to all of you who sent me parts for the project. it was quite an ordeal, particularly the last-minute discovery that one of the tow truck drivers had bent and cracked my DeDion tube! all's well that ends well, i guess . . .

meanwhile, with brand new Weber carbs, i need some help dialing them in. please see and respond to my General Tech post, if you have any advice.

regards to all,

alan in west LA

Congratulations on reaching the finish of this monumental effort. Despite the damage it is good to know your car is back on the road better than ever! Well Done! :hurray:
