Pe7e
Is any insurance available for a non-street legal track day car? I assume the entry fee includes liability insurance. Is this true? Is supplemental liability insurance available and if so, from whom? -Pete the Precaucious
xcarguy
This is who I use. Give them a try. http://locktonmotorsports.com/product/track-insurance/
blubarisax
I use Lockton too. You can get a little discount by joining the Porsche or BMW clubs and registering through them. These are stated value policies. Be careful not to undervalue your car. If repairs exceed the stated value, they can total the vehicle and keep it for salvage. One thing I don't like is that the cost is per event. A three day event costs the same as a one day event... Karl
Kitcat
Karl-what is a ballpark cost for an event? Did you have this coverage when you had your incident at L Rock and, if so, was is covered without a hassle?
blubarisax
The cost is based on the stated value. They have a quick quote system on thier website. For example the cost for a $40,000 car is: Single-event policy: $276 6-event policy: $1341 9-event policy: $1786 12-event policy: $2105 15-event policy: $2371 My event at Lime Rock was covered by my regular insurance after a few discussions (not as bad as I expected) with the friendly folks at my insurance company. But, they dropped the Caterham the same day they finalized the claim. I suspect they have changed their policy by now to exclude HPDE events and the like. Pe7e
I was just given a 6 event phone quote, with BMW Car Club of America membership (thanks for the tip, Karl), of $900. [Edited to add: this was only for $25K, however.] Quite the deal, considering that, due to their claims records, NJMP participants require a 33% surcharge. yellowss7
Pete, NJMP's tracks are smooth, with good runoff areas. All you have to do is keep it on the blacktop. :jester: Just don't follow Croc or Kitcat as you never know when they might decide to do some Gardening. :troll: Brake on the straights not the turns and don't turn in too early and it's a pleasure to drive. Stick with Karl and me and you will have a good time. Just be sure to wave to Kitcat and Croc as you pass them on the side of the track, if you can see them thru all the dust they kick up. :jester: Tom
Pe7e
Heh, heh, heh. Thanks, Tom. Actually, I've begun a regimen of point-by exercises, so I'll be in shape for the first events. :seeya: Pete
Locofinn
If you are just looking for "Off Track" insurance, you can get it pretty cheap. I went through Hagerty Ins who specializes in collector and race cars. I just cover theft and comprehensive to cover trailering incidents or my garage burning down with the car in it, etc. It is a declared value insurance. I have a home-built seven that is not street legal or has any VIN. They charge about $165/year for a declared value of $20K. My on-track liability is covered through the event sanctions and through my SCCA membership. You wreck it you fix it.
