I'm new to this site and I think I'm going to enjoy my stay. I currently drive an NC MX-5, but my dream car is a Seven.

 

Last year I took the test drive of my life in a 2003 Caterham SV. I still have dreams of driving it. I have to thank George Alderman for allowing me to get behind the wheel.

 

I've never sat in a standard chassis Seven. I was wondering if I would fit. I'm 6'1" and 135 lbs. So it's just a question of height.

 

Occasionally, I participate in the Atlanta Solo Events. So far, I've only seen a Hayabusa powered Westfield.

 

For the time being, I'll be browsing around on the forums and drooling at pictures of beautiful Sevens. I need a college education before I can afford a Seven (I'm 18 years old), but I'll be sure to post my ride when I acquire it. :flag:

Welcome. I would think that you will fit into the standard chassis just fine. It is typically a question of "width" more than "height". I am 6'0" and 180 lbs. and don't even have the adjustable seat all the way back and am comfortable. Before your eventual purchase I am sure you will be able to find someone with a standard chassis car that will let you try out the fit. Good luck (both with the college degree and the Seven purchase).

Sure you will fit. I can think of a few 6 footers with standard sevens. Just need to think about headroom with a roll bar and you can achieve this with a tall roll bar and lowered floors in a Caterham or Birkin. Stalkers and Ultralites are easier to accommodate those taller people. The only thing you may not have considered in shoe size. The standard Caterham S3 chassis pedal box is very tight for those with large feet.

 

If you were at George's workshop then you must be local? You talk about Atlanta so not sure? There are a group of us (6 Caterhams) that frequent member days (non competitive) at NJMP about an hour east of George. you just missed the Sevens weekend this month with 12 cars cycling through. There are group there tomorrow and this weekend but then it gets pretty light until Sept. We can arrange a guest pass if you want to come in, meet the group and learn about sevens. I am sure we can convince you to buy one!

I live in Atlanta. I dropped by Mr. Alderman's shop while I was on a road trip.

 

I really appreciate the offer. I don't have any plans for another road trip up North, but if something comes up, I'll be sure to contact you.

 

I E-Mailed Mr. Alderman a couple months ago and didn't hear back from him. Is he doing alright?

George had a few things on his plate not that long ago. He is still going just fine. He is in the middle of repairing one of the NJMP group's caterhams and is still active. I find him more responsive through a phone call rather than emails. Top guy!:flag:

You lucky guy... 6'1" and 135lbs. If you plan on owning a 7 far into the future keep up that trim body.

Stay with the college education first and the 7 will come sooner than you think. Good luck with the college.

I "fell under the spell" (to quote Peter Egan) of the se7en in 1962, at age 16. Forty five short years later, I bought my first of 3 and counting. Well worth the wait. Little things kept intruding, like college, law school, wife, family, house, remodeling house, furnishing house, kids, kids college, saving for retirement, etc., etc.
