Red Duck
I am having a tiresome problem with the speedo on my new CSR260. When traveling at a steady speed, the speedo reads what I believe to be accurate. But when accelerating, the needle flutters and, under hard acceleration, it goes to zero and swings wildly. Again, when back to a steady speed it returns to normal. I have adjusted the pickup on the right rear axle. I have tried the largest gap (when the light only just comes on as it picks up each tooth), all the way to the smallest gap, and several settings in between. I don't recall if any of the settings I have tried are materially better than any other, but just know that none of them make it work properly. Any tips? Thanks, Steve
xcarguy
Just a stab here, but us the pickup area clean; road grime, etc.?

Sean
Intermittent (or consistent) bouncy gauge needles on a Caterham are frequently caused by a "dodgy earth", or inconsistent ground. Not sure about CSRs in particular, but a common culprit on a S3 is the ground point under the dash on the right side where the wiper motor mounts. Worth a look, anyway. slomove
I would go with the above mentioned guesses. The only reason I have *heard* of acceleration affecting electrical equipment performance is that at wide open throttle the absolute compression in the cylinder is higher, requiring higher voltage before the spark fires an thus more electrical noise. I know this happened to a camera pan servo setup I used to have that became a bit jittery when accelerating. I would be surprised if that is what is happening to your speedo but, well, just to mention another possibility.
Croc
Sounds similar to my - goes haywire as soon as I go above 100mph so most of the time it is useless to me. - Check the speed sensor gap and have it on the smallest setting. Is it under 1mm? - If that is done then check the earth on the speedo - Check the speedo cable - If that is turning up negative then it is not unheard of for the Speedo to be failing and need replacement. This is a very common issue on many Caterhams and a search of Blatchat should reveal the solution to be one of the 3 above.
