If you go light, the TDI cars are great for pulling a 7. I installed a surge brake on my light weight trailer W/ single axle. It feels great at well over posted speeds. I get no push with the trailer at when loaded. With almost 60,000 miles it is still running original brake pads. The Jetta TDI is a great choice. I didn't tow much to be fair, but if I did it all over again, it would be the same choice. I have never had any wind issues either. I never towed on snow or ice with it, but much hard rain and no issues.

I may have found a solution to my problem. I was worried about any warranty issues with the drive train due to towing. I discovered that the insurance company I use has a warranty/insurance policy that will cover the drive train for 4 Yrs at a cost of $1500. Which is a lot better than spending an extra 10K on the M-B suv. The fuel savings over those 4 years should make a dent in that $1500 cost.

Oh crap, I forgot where you were. Sorry, wasn't trying to be a smart a$$.

By the way, if you buy a car over there, do you pay the VAT on the car or are you exempt ? If not exempt, it can add up to a big chunk of change.

No VAT. And yes, That would be a huge chunk of change. $5300.00 on the VW TDI or 19%.

In my home state of WA. if one owns a tax free car for three months prior to registering it in WA. it will remain tax free.

Not to hijack my own thread. :rant:They tax the crap out of everything over here. One will even pay 19% VAT when you buy a house. That would have increased the cost of buying my home in Walla Walla by $46,000. :cuss:

Everything (with the exception of medical care=0 tax and food=7%) is taxed at 19% at ALL levels.

When BMW buys parts from suppliers, They pay 19% on those goods, When BMW sells that car to the dealer, The dealer pays 19% tax on their cost. And then the end user pays 19% tax when they buy the car.

It's THE reason that you get a lot of "free" or cheap things from the government here. Or at least they like you to THINK you are getting it for free. And it's where we in the USA are headed. And the folks here also pay about the same income tax that the USA does.
