DIYMAN25
today on the way to work... i usually drive my S7evn at weekend. so on the monday moring , i was on the way the work, at 40 mile zone. I was drive 5th gear 2000rpm..... ahead of me. the police was doing a police report. so they block street.. so I was ready to turn left to side street. but one of officer told me to put offer... when i was stop. and get out, he ask me... where are you windshield? and this is not a legal head light... I was very cofuse.. because most of time. when i pass police officer they just let me go.. they wont take a sec look. but this guy he just picky on my car at every thing. he even ask me is this street legal. I say ya. register and have insurance, he even put of vehicle code.... I was saying in my mind... what da. so finally i told him. if you try to put this vehicle code in the vintage car, no car will pass, but he keep his statment. saying if I dont have windshield and head light is not legal, he can impont it .... but he let me go this time, and told me to park the car. so i saw him took off to north. so i head to south to another free way.... man, that really piss me off. dont know what is his point. i was wearing goggle and face mask... so wind shied or not dont matter.... slngsht
that sucks. that could happen to alot of us I guess. They can probably pick on me for not having front plates, PIAA headlights, and possibly lack of front fenders. I did get pulled over in frankn7 once for a stupid reason (the loose nut behind the wheel), and there were a few other forum members there as witnesses
locostv8
In SF years ago got stopped for noisy Carb. The cop thought he was hearing the exhaust but no. The car was an Alfa Guiletta with a 1300 with Webbers and only half the air cleaner. suggested he listen again that far as I knew there wasn't anything on the books about noisy carb. locost7018
If you can get a copy of the state code that applies to your car and carry it with you. That way if the guy stops you again you can show it to him. Or even better get the license department to give you a letter. Cops have long memories so he will be on the look out for you. Russ Sounds like a good plan... How do i get that. I know you can get vehicle code but will that apply to vintage car ? and how do I get letter ? like DMV ? ya he seen to be very piss on my car for no reason , he even said. you dont have windshield wiper some thing this stubid.. he warm to drive my car back and swtich other car.... other wise he will impont it righ away............ I guess even with i carry the code or leather, he will still give me a ticket. but I feel if i do go to court. I feel i have a chance to reverse the charge...... bnut still that is a lot of trouble
slngsht
locost7018's suggestion makes alot of sense. If your car really passes all applicable standards, take those documents to the station, have them review it. If you pass that stage, I'd look into someway of filing something on record regarding the a**hole's conduct... Just so the next time you have a run-in with him, it is on record. I have a feeling though that you may have to change at least the lights. Do they have a DOT number on them?
Al N.
Here in NJ, I have the collector car inspection sticker (a triangle), which I think pretty much keeps the police away. And besides, I drive like a grandma (unless of course, I'm trying to keep up with a few folks who shall remain nameless)
locostv8
VA has finnaly gotten smart and will as of 7/1/7 register component cars as the year and model they most represent and the smog and equipment follow that car. How many cops or Inspectors have any idea what equipment was supposed to be on a '58 Lotus Seven?? I plan on registring as a '58 Lotus Seven (replica) and will carry a copy of the IMP documentation with me http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1958-LOTUS-SEVEN-SERIES-1-ORIGINAL-IMP-BROCHURE-58-60_W0QQitemZ320124498179
Davemk1
I've been pulled over only once. I knew I wasn't speeding so I was ready to argue. Turned out the cop just thought the car was cool and wanted to tell me so. Here in the 3rd world country of Montana if it rolls and has brake lights it's legal so I don't get much trouble from the MAN. Dave
WestTexasS2K
Haven't had to much trouble with the cops. Everytime I have been pulled over the cop just wanted to see the car. But I do not have a windshield on mine. I just have the aero screens. In Texas if it has a winshield it should have wiper blades of some type. If you do not have a windshield then nothing is needed. But I know there are several guys that run the windshield in Tx and have heard of no problems. You might get a ticket if pulled over for some other reason but not pulled over for that reason. Heck I dont have a front license plate the registration and inspection stickers are not displayed and I still dont get pulled over. Maybe I am just lucky. locostv8
I would be glad to though there would probably be copyright problems.
