Newbie Frustrations Force Seeking a Higher Power

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I’m new to the forum. Part of my introduction is a call for help, I’m at such a loss but 1st. from this side of the rock my name is Skip. Residents, Long Beach, CA. I’m a sculptor/fabricator. From one off part fabrication/restorations such as a client’s missing fender, I’ll reproduce an exact duplicate by hand. Small castings utilizing lost wax/sand in Bronze, Aluminum and steel. When opportunity is slow I’m on the road in the position of Sr. Project Manager on capital projects.

I've had the Super Stalker itch for several years and now feel it’s time to scratch. I’m very close to pulling the trigger on a 2005 3.8 Super Charged with 6,867 total miles. Power Plant per Car Fax-Year 2004 Grand Prix @ 4938 miles during time of build.

Now my call for help Please. My concern is of registering in the state of California. I've seen several run around my area but d*** it man such an elusive animal to catch. Owners apparently know where the gas pedal lives. So, not having the opportunity 1st. hand to capture answers to my questions from Ca owners I threw an email to BruntonAuto, Mr. Scott Brunton inquiring on said and have not been responded to as yet.

Next pursuit for info was to visit a few local speed shops x 4 and all are stating that any vehicle purchased in or outside the state with 7500 miles or less must be registered as a new vehicle and meet California Smog reg’s. I stated OK, what would one have to do? Response, probably have to run cats, change the wind shield, run wiper’s etc, etc.

Could/can/would any within this forum having registered in CA possibly shed some light.

Thank you for your time.

Regards,

Hi Skip;

Welcome aboard. There are several CA residents here and quite a few Stalker owners who may be able to help answer your questions. I can't be of any assistance on this topic as my car is an actual '62 Lotus so registration was a pretty straight forward used car ID inspection for me. However I suggest that you consider checking out the California Caterham Club forum in addition to this xlnt group. While it is a pretty small group, being pretty much California focused, there is a lot of SB100 registration experience over there.

Good luck with your acquisition and a successful and uneventful registration.

Regards,

Ron

Skip,

Welcome aboard! :seeya: I was going to suggest Manshoon11, but he has already chimed in. I can't help with the CA registration, but I am a Stalker owner and will be more than willing to help in other Stalker-related areas if you pull the trigger on the 05. Also, FWIW, Dennis Brunton sold Brunton Auto to the Minehearts (Scott Mineheart and Glen Mineheart). Scott is the son and Glen is the dad. Contact numbers coming to you via pm. :cheers:

ditto the California Caterham site...

One thing for sure, you'll need to show receipts for the drivetrain and kit seperately. It can not be dealer built - purchasing everything from one vendor would not look good. Hopefully the owner bought the kit, and bought the drive train separate, then either installed the drive train himself or had it done by 3rd party.
