Finishing electrical controls

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this is on here somewhere, but my search came up short. Although my build thread has not been updated lately, some serious progress has been made! I'm neck deep in wiring and need to choose some control parts.

I'm looking for a turn signal switch. I'm thinking 3 position rocker, that springs back to the neutral spot. Any source or brand suggestions would be great! I tend to like industrial looking parts, and want to avoid chrome.

Same issue with a headlight switch. I would like the kind to activate brights via pull.

I would also like to do a hazard button. Preferably light up with a triangular hazard logo.

Keep in mind that my steering shaft is just that, a shaft, no column. All controls will be mounted to dash or trans tunnel.

I would like to keep things as dark as possible. Black is ideal, brushed aluminum would be a second choice. Quality of the parts is most important of all.

Thanks!

Turn signal switch; I used a simple non-spring loaded three way toggle (IN/OFF/ON). Sorry, it's chrome.

Head light switch, standard PULL ON for park and head light power with an OFF/ON toggle switch. Yep, it's chrome also. :)

The toggles work well and are available at any parts store for quick and easy replacement when/if needed.

However, lots of choices available. I've ordered lots of stuff (electrical) from these guys. Might be a good starting point:

I bought the black toggle switches I used from SandParts. Also got some nice switches from CBS, Car Builders Supply. They're in the UK, but will ship anywhere. I got but didn't use one of their really nice illuminated Hazard switches. I can send photos in a few days as I'm traveling at the moment. If you're interested, I'll sell you the hazard switch at half price.

There's a huge selection of all things electronic at Digi-Key. Make sure your switches are DC rated for the current you need. AC switches frequently have a low DC rating because with AC, the current goes through zero 120 times a second and it helps break the arc.

May also want to check out Waytek Wire. They have a lot of industrial and automotive stuff:

There was a UK place called, I think, Automotive Wiring Products that we used to buy stuff from at my last job. Can't find it on the web now, though.
