bball7754
With the new website, apparently Tech Talk on Blatchat is for members only. Sigh. Checking Tech Talk has been part of my daily routine for the last 10 years. This may be the motivation needed to finally join - but maybe not. As a Crossflow owner, it's been a great source of information. Guess I won't be referencing posts any longer. Steve
Blokko
I believe that WSCC also went members only having previously been open access. I guess that the new website is going to be more costly to maintain than in the past (when Barry did all of the work free of charge) - so 'monetising' the site by making users join the L7Club makes sense. I'm sure they could have looked at advertising revenue as well / instead - but I know that members have said in the past that they would not like this. I've been a L7Club member since 2007 when I purchased my first Caterham. I get more than 50 quid of value per year out of Tech Talk and ChitChat. I'll continue to pay for membership even though I'll be out of the UK and most likely not own a Caterham. Will be interesting to see whether the latest change will affect membership. May get some new members (like the OP) who previously had free access to the site - but I bet it will lead to others leaving. Not sure if people will drift towards PistonHeads - I know that a lot of club members also post on PH. As you say, referencing existing posts in TechTalk will be pointless looking forward (unless you fancy a bit of cut and paste work :-) ). Personally I liked BlatChat as it was (agree with the sentiments of Angus who posted this - http://blatchat.com/t.asp?id=245321&pn=1&ps=15), but I understand why it had to change. Would have been nice if the new site was as clean and simple as the old one though.....
yellowss7
I've been a member since 2000 and it too is part of my morning ritual to check in on Blatchat. I could never have completed my K series build without the support of the Blatchat community and I still use it to help with my new Duratec issues. If you need to post a question, let me know Steve M. and I'll post it for you. Tom
xflow7
Are you saying that membership is required just to view Tech Talk, or to post? I seem to still able to view it without any problems. As for posting, it's been members only to post for a long while now (maybe 10+ years?) Dave
yellowss7
Dave, the new Lotus 7 club site has moved and I just logged out and I cannot see Tech Talk. Looks like you have to be a member to see tech talk on the new site. The old Blatchat is still on line for now. Tom
bball7754
Dave - What Tom said. I'm assuming that at some point http://www.blatchat.com will take you to the Forum section of the new site, and unless you're a member you won't see Tech Talk. Steve - I've been a freeloader for 10 years, so probably about time I started to carry my weight. Agree that I prefer the old design, although I'm sure I'll adjust. I don't like the new Technical Search either. I was happy to only search within Tech Talk, and found it easy to find information. Steve
xflow7
Ah, nevermind then. I've always gone direct to blatchat.com, so I assumed that was still where the forums pointed.
