Here is a Caterham. I know that it is out of your price rage.... ( i thought it was lower) but i figured that too much info is better than not enough http://www.lotusowners.com/ForSale/Vogel%20Seven/index.htm Good luck.

There is a great site for building a "locost", here is a link for beginning builders. Good luck http://www.locostusa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1030

Any thought to chassis flex? With the big/powerful engine are you running any additional tubes for stiffness?

I would like to wander up to the event this weekend. I have not attentended this event yet, it allways seams that something else falls on this date > Mike are you bringing your 7? Bummer xflow7 about the regestration. I would like to talk to you about your regestration and build process. Did you build the car? Is this the first time the car is being regestered in NYS? Thanks ken My build here. http://www.locostusa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2293&start=15&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

Neither does Mass State police. I travel to Plymouth Mass every few months and i often see people pulled over by there unmarked car, Mustang Crown Vic (not so suprizing) Dodge Avanger (Suprizing) to get pulled over by it after you pass him! So keep your eyes open on the Mass Turn pike.

I hope that i did not come off malicious. I didn't mean that if i did. I just didn't see it as a safe idea. I'm a local Solo Chairman and Tech inspector. I'm not sure that i would let a car with DR's run at a autox. I think that it is a safty risk. But like kitkat said i bet it left like no other! http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/reddevil.gif I will be battling traction when i get my locost built With a L67. And one of the ways that i HOPE to take care of it is just tires... I plan to run 245/45/17 (Falken 615's) on the street (stock mustang GT tire size) LOTS of options and to race i think that i would swap out the rears for a 275/40/17, Same rolling diameter. with some race rubber. Good luck with your adventure in tires. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/coolgleamA.gif Ken

Drag radials in auto-x?! Are you mad? Granted they have great grip but they have NO sidewall! That tire will roll over all the time! I have a good buddy that runs the BFG KD's on the street and BFG Drag Radials at the track and sometimes on the street. He says that they are SCARY on the street. They have no feedback and are squirmey(sp) He runs these on his 650whp Supra. I would not think that these would be safe and fast. Wouldn't it be better to change the rim diameter up to like a 16 or 17 and then you can use a Hooser A6 or a Kuhmo. Good luck Ken

A Supra diff is a good idea. They are very strong. My good friend has a MKIV Supra that puts down 630whp and 538w ft/lbs on low boost (20-25 i don't recall the actual psi) And he has been doing this for.... 3 years. Granted it ONLY gets driven on sunny days durring the summers here in NY. And that is with a good amount of track time, Drag racing on Drag radials, and street runs. It has seen a good amount of abuse. It finally gave out at the end of this summer. (kind of a suprize that it did give out) And this is on a full bodied car ~3500lbs. Here is a picture of how it gave out. There also is a TRD LSD on order for it... and the rumor is that all the 1000whp+ guys run this LSD with very good results. http://www.elmiracalvarynaz.org/mike/lsd2.jpgKENLUDE972007-01-18 08:21:07

Pretty cool. Man he was unloading the engine atleast 2 different points! Look like fun. -
Personally a Turbo screaming F20c (s2000 motor) would be perfect for me. However it is very cost probhitive So i settled on the L67. (i really want boost) Personally a Car engined is better for me. I'm sick of having "no torque" I currently Auto-x a 1997 Prelude. And i have drove a car with no Reverse. Not fun. So it must have reverse. Dennis over at http://dpcars.net/ is putting a V8 busa in a Ariel!! So if you are interested go over and check out his projects!

This is what i recieved in my locost "yahoo" list. " The typical modern automobile achieves a drag coefficient of between 0.30 and 0.35. SUVs, with their flatter shapes, typically achieve a Cd of 0.35–0.45. Notably, certain cars can achieve figures of 0.25-0.30, although sometimes designers deliberately increase drag in order to reduce lift." 2.1 - a smooth brick 0.9 - a typical bicycle plus cyclist 0.7 to 1.1 - typical... Formula 1 car (downforce settings change for each circuit) 0.7 - Caterham Seven 0.6 - a typical truck 0.57 - Hummer H2, 2003 over 0.5 - Dodge Viper 0.44 - Toyota Truck, 1990-1995 0.38 - Volkswagen Beetle 0.38 - Mazda Miata, 1989 0.36 - Honda Civic, 2001 0.34 - Chevrolet Corvette Z06, 2006 0.33 - Mazda RX-7 FC3C, 1987-91 0.29 - Honda CRX HF 1988 0.26 - Toyota Prius, 2004 0.25 - Honda Insight, 1999 0.195 - General Motors EV1, 1996 0.137 - Ford Probe V prototype, 1985 I went to: and none of their "7s" had the body mounted "wing" type front fenders but, had the suspension mounted "cap" [?] fenders. I know that the drag difference would be quite a bit between the two fender types. I went back to the image list in the Wikipedia article and it showed a correct Caterham 7 with the capped fenders, no top, with a roll bar so, the numbers ought to be useful enough for Locosts.

Cool stories here. Hello my name is Ken Moyer I'm a 27 year old car nut. I live breath cars and anything related to them. I enjoy watching racing in just about any form from NASCAR(wile napping) to F1. Saturday mornings/afternoons are "powerblock" time and I watch "car TV." I'm freshly married (2+ years) to a VERY understanding wife. I'm a Mechanical Designer during the day, and as my wife calls it "He draws metal things" I use 3D software Pro-engineer, and have been for 5 years. In between working on our house I send as much time in my garage tweaking on my 1997 Honda Prelude. I've had this car for 6 years and I love it for what it is, but it is too slow and too heavy and drives the incorrect wheels, to drive any faster. I'm currently the Regional SCCA Solo chairman, and I have lots of fun with this organization. I have been interested in cars for as long as I can remember, and I owe it to a friend for pushing me over the edge into fully "Car Crazy". We worked on his Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo, all the time, often until very late class night in college. After he got frustrated with the unreliability of the Mitsu, he wanted a reliable project so, we brain stormed and came up with the idea of a Honda swap. We landed on 1996 (ek) Civic hatchback, and swapped in a JDM H22a motor. That took a few months to complete, and again took many late nights. Ended up to be a pretty fast little car and was reliable for him. Project accomplished. I have followed the "Kimini" build for around 3 years now, and always amazed me, the work and theory of light and simple. Until recent I have not thought that I could afford to build a car, until the C&D article about Locosts. Well I'm hooked and I hope to complete the chassis and suspension this winter. After completed I hope to autocross the car and attend a few track days at Watkins Glen. Ken
