  1. Mike, the T9 is included. My cell is 214-621-2344 if you'd like to call.
  2. Hey Mike, The Birkin is still with me, as yet.
  3. Hey Blackburd, Yes, I sold the BDA. The car is complete but minus engine, starter, carbs, and alternator. I think $10k is fair for the car, and for another $1k the trailer can be included.
  4. Howdy, This car now has no engine, starter, carbs, or alternator.
  5. It is time to sell a project that I am now too old, and busy, to have on the schedule. This is a 1999 Birkin 7 S3 kit that was built 10 or 11 years before I bought it in 2012. I received it as a very well sorted 7 that had never been titled. The previous owner pretty much just auto crossed it and cruised in it. Shortly after I bought it, I found a perfect all steel, tuned, and refreshed hot street Cosworth built 1700 BDA. I jumped in the deep end and paid big bucks for the BDA. I sold the Kent 1600 crossflow to help fund this project and never got around to completing it. Crazy me, as it was a phenomenal car with the original engine. This car has lived in my enclosed trailer since 2012. I have finally come to the conclusion it is time and have sold the Cosy BDA. The easiest build would be with a Ford Kent or Zetec engine, as that would put the exhaust and the carbs on the correct sides. A Duratec would require changing intake and exhaust sides and thus covering the original cutouts. The first three photos were taken today, with the rest from 2012. I have a perfect LBC trailer that can be included. It was purpose built for MGT series cars but is perfect for the 7. Other than engine, carbs, starter, and alternator everything is complete including crank fired ignition. While I need to run to East Texas to get the T9 tranny out of my storage trailer there, I am internally debating how to price this. Or maybe should just put it on Don't Bring a Trailer.
  6. Bump The BDA is still for sale.
  7. I bought this 1700 BDA from Craig back in 2012. It has remained in it's crate, in a climate controlled garage ever since. My project has been delayed so many times that I must surrender. As such, this beauty is up for sale.
  8. Yes AFR does look pretty safe. The 35-36 total advance is a bit more than the absolute max 34 I've been accustomed to. But that could be related to how quickly/slowly the mixture ignites. So I'd guess the fuel used could be an issue. I will be very attuned to the verdict, and solution. And very sorry to hear of the catastrophic failure......
  9. Fuel quantity required could also have increased at the higher revs. Lean condition?
  10. Check the carbon contact in the cap, and the condition of the rotor to cap spark jump.
  11. Updates, and what's next: Progress has been slow due to a really torn up right shoulder. I'm trying to delay surgery until my house project and the engine swap are done, and surviving on a couple of steroid shots every couple of months. Kenny Anderson bought the Xflow to put into his Buckland B3. Engine came out yesterday. I traded Dick Brink the NIB ZX3 for parts credit. It will take a bit of calculating to figure out what all parts I can/want to reuse. My biggest quandary (so far) is how and where to mount the dry sump tank. There is excess length in the passenger footwell. Dare I just start drilling out rivets to find a shorter footwell? It seems there may be another set of braces about 7" back. The hoof end of the footwell is just a molded plastic piece. Can it be removed individually?
  12. The engine has sold. Thank you all! As I understand, it will spend the next stretch of it's life in a Buckland B3. Interesting project!
  13. Thanks for the confirmation, Automoda!
  14. Ok most is apart, and figuring out how to fit the following: Ordered dry sump tank: http://www.ebay.com/itm/360530587960?item=360530587960&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME:L:OC:US:3160&vxp=mtr Remote filter mount: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CMIZV2/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 I think that I can use the Caterham 4-2x2 header, 2-1 collector, and (should I use?) the super trap that came with the engine. All of this (in just steel) weighs a good 20# less than my current SS exhaust setup. If that all works out, I'll get it jet hotted. I think I'll have to modify the RH motor mount to clear the scavenge pipe going from the dry sump to the oil pump. Dick Brink has a better ratio 5sp gearbox (2.5, 1.81, 1.26, 1, .87) to go with my 4.11 rear, so I think that will be a part of the transition. My current setup likes climbing poles in first (3.36, 1.81, 1.26, 1, .825), even with the XF. Dick also has one last LSD in stock, and I suppose that I should snag that while available. What else am I missing? Ahh yes, the transplant: http://britcarfun.com/images/birkin/beasty.jpg
  15. Ok, I can get the Deka ETX14s for $50. I'd think UPS ground to most would be ~ $12-$15. They are 220 CCA.
  16. I share my building with the Deka automotive battery warehouse. If anyone wants the Deka EXT14's at Distributor cost, I'll do a one time shipment of them for those wanting. Deka builds this battery specifically for Harley, but will be supplied with Deka labeling for warrany/OEM reasons. Info: http://www.dekabatteries.com/assets/base/0278.pdf I don't know cost, but can get it Monday if there is interest. I do know that it is a fair bit under $100. Or with shipping from Amazon (w/someones reseller label and probably 90 day commercial warranty) for $72.95 delivered: http://www.amazon.com/East-Penn-Manufacturing-ETX14-ETX/dp/B000A3SIGU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1355031378&sr=8-2&keywords=deka+etx14
  17. I will be removing my complete powertrain for upgrades. The for sale powertrain is still installed in the car for a short while. It would make for a good inspection. There are a few more than 15,000 miles on the package, since it was new in '99. The previous owner autoX'd it once (w/FTD), otherwise road miles. Engine holds between 35 and 40 psi at full run, and hot idle. Extraodinarily minor oil leakage. Tuned, running very well, and ready to go. There are a few pics in my sig link, but would be most happy to take any that you'd like. Included: Complete Ford Kent 1600 Crossflow with head work, and refreshed within the last 1000 miles (It is an AX block) 40 DCOE pair w/your choice of new set of K&N filters, or the currently installed UNI's. Alternator Lightened flywheel Comp clutch (new within 1000 mi) Back plate Bellhousing Stock Sierra 5 speed Currently running on an Electromotive crank fire that is not included, but for $275 I can supply a fresh electronic dizzy setup that is ready for install. At this point, the starter is the one thing not included. Assume shipping in the Continental US to be $450-$600 ish. I'll help any way I can. Dick Brink drove it today, and I am sure would give a true assesment if asked. Other than that, currently you can come drive it! I'd think offers in the neighborhood of $5500 to be a fair request, for this bolt in ready to go package. Many thanks, Jimmy 214-621-2344
  18. I have to comment that Craig is the most responsive, and thoughtful, person to deal with that could be found!!
  19. If anyone has experience with fitting a dry sump tank to a Birkin, I'd be very interested in the endeavor. I do need a tank. Should I be hunting one with vented overflow capabilities as well? This is to go in with the BD engine that is coming from Craig C. Any thoughts are very much appreciated!! And for pics, I'll buy the beer!!
  20. So now I have to beg answers for questions (imagine that!): 15K miles are currently on the car. What else should I be concerned with while the engine(s) are out? - I'll reuse the Electromotive ignition - lightened flywheel and comp clutch are currently installed. OK, or should I sweat about the 13.5# flywheel? - Current trans is Sierra 5 with stock gearing. OK? - Is there anything about frame strength that I should be concerned with? - Will ultimately upgrade to wide front end. (any reason not to wait?) What is a fair price to ask for the new in the box 2004 ZX3? It has been suggested that my complete Kent CF with carbs and ancillaries should be worth about $3500. Is that fair? TY for any, and all, thoughts!
  21. Hi All, I have very much enjoyed lurking this forum, and have learned a lot. I've still a lot to learn, but that is all fun! I have dreamed of having a 7 since 1968, and finally have a keeper. I bought Bob Kansa's ( http://usa7s.com/vb/member.php?u=504 ) '99 Birkin S3 1600 CF a couple of months ago. Bob supplied a very nice, and very well maintained car. As I have yet to take the steps to get it titled, I have somewhat limited drive time. I am far more impressed with the Kent CF than I thought I'd be. Several MG friends did some drive time in it a couple of weekends ago, and I'll bet there will be some new additions to our Seven group!! Part of the plan was to drive, and fully know, the Kent CF for a year or so. Then to do an engine upgrade. I had already bought a brand new in the box ZX3 that is sitting on a pallet at my office. The more I studied, the more I thought I should go for a Duratek (but what about everything on the wrong side?). Then I started drooling over BDA's. Then out of nowhere, Craig Chima lists a BDA on USA7s: (http://usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=8117). Uh boy, timing sucked big time, but I really knew that is where I wanted to go. The vintage heritage is magnetic to me, so that is to be installed in the near future. I'll post a couple of current photos. Thanks so much for the inclusion, Jimmy pic page: http://britcarfun.com/images/birkin/ http://britcarfun.com/images/birkin/1.jpg http://britcarfun.com/images/birkin/2.jpg
  22. Yep, I think over time there may be a couple converts/additions!
  23. 5 of my good MG buddies showed up to spend today for BS, Beer, and to build a couple sets of SU carbs for 2 of them. If I only could have recorded the looks, and endless responses, after each had taken a drive in my new (to me) Birkin. It was absolutely priceless!!
