Hello, I am enclosing what I have used for my '85 S3, 1.6l Kent imperial chassis. Here it is. I gave up on keeping headlights several years ago. Now I work to maintain brake lights. Good luck. Help can also be found at Dave Bean in San Andreas CA. They bought the stock from Lotus when they departed the pattern several years ago. Ken Gray is the one I deal with. I was able to restart my seven today. Those of you who had the chosen topic"180 out" win the lottery. With a neighbors help we static times it and reset the timing . All is right with the world now. ultraslow

Just a note. Gordon Self operates alfadog a shop specializing in Alfa Romeo work. He is also a Weber-whisperer which is how I got wind of him. My problem may be weber related and he is the man for that around here. ultraslow

Sorry for the lag in replying. Yeah, that was me that assaulted you at the traffic light. Anyway,I checked the plug order and firing order. Plugs are gapped and wires are new last year. There is spark. I spray starting fluid in and still no joy. I need to run static timing and then think about this some more. I may be 180deg out, how I don't know how could have come about, this exercise will give a me some idea re that. Talked with Gordon Self in ABQ, he is willing to help if I can get it to him. This problem has been building for the last six months.

I will check the plug wires, dizzy, and drain and refill the gas tank. Thanks It is depressing to have so simple a machine and be incapable of keeping it running.

I own an '85 Caterham Seven. I cannot get it to start.It ran a few weeks ago. New plugs ect, all for nought. Is there anybody in the ABQ area that is willing to travel to Jemez Springs, I will pay, to help me get it started? I have obviously reached the limits of my abilities on this.I think it is a timing issue. 1.6l Kent Xflow w/40DCOE's and Pertronix.

This is a used aftermarket steel sump that fit a 1.6l 711M Kent engine. I drove over a gas station filler cap and cracked it at a seam. It was re-welded and looks fine. I also have a spare, new fiber gasket. Asking $25 and you reimburse shipping

My '85 S3 suddenly developed a slap whenever I accelerated, or backed off throttle. Slow shifting limited this. I read all the bits I could find, checked bushings, moaned about worn splines , and finally discovered a loose wrench on the back shelf. Occams Razor lives. Simple answers can exist, even in a Seven. Happy Thanksgiving indeed.

Does there know where I can get the dash covering material for an S3 dash? black, textured,appears to be a laminate? Ultraslow I answered my own question. I contacted Prince Racing, has lots os Lotus parts, and was give the advice that I could have the cask crackle/powder coated and save myself the hassle of trying to find the laminate material, which like a lot of the bits in older sevens, is not made anymore. I spent a long time in college and ended up working as a research technician at Los Alamos National Lab for 32 years. Retired to Jemez Springs,NM in 2012 and three months before retirement started looking and found my '85 S3, live axle/4psd 1.6l Kent in Seattle. I took delivery in July '12. I deal a lot with Ken Grey at Dave Bean Eng in Andreas,CA. Good parts source and advice. Encyclopedic knowledge of all things Lotus/Caterham. I have rejetted the carbs. replaced starter. distributor (Pertronix), new sump, (fabbed a sump guard), new tires, Corner weighted, insulated the footbox, new radiator and electric fan, new hardened valve seats. Bought a tonneau and boot cover from Leslie Storr, new carpet bits. Needs a new top. All this took place over three years. I wanted one since I first saw one in 1968 and finally realized my dream. Runs like it was scalded. I would like to travel in it but it just beats me to mush. American roads, the interesting back routes, are v-rough. The others are boring. Looking forward to a long relationship with this car. I have not seen another seven anywhere in NM. One Burton but no Sevens.

Any cap with bill to the rear, in cold weather I use an Andean goatherd with the flaps. Also, wax ear plugs as the buffeting will damage your hearing. Stay warm.

John, Sorry to be so slow in responding. My Seven is an '85 S3. So, what is broken? How much,$?, and perhaps I could send prepaid box w/packing to you. Mine was broken in towing "incident" w/wife. Car cover, I am about to buy another one from these folks. I am getting the heavier duty one since the EVO 4 outdoors only lasted two years. I am expecting longer life from this one. Does anybody know of anyone in the US, that is building GRP noses for the Series3 ? I see scattered ads for folks in the UK but the shipping is out of sight.Any info appreciated. ultraslow

If you mean the plastic with pin bits for the side curtains/door; I got mine from Catherham in UK. ultraslow
