Tina at Storage Stables ((307) 733-6876) said they should be able to accommodate a few tow rigs and trailers. She said to call again a couple weeks beforehand so they can make space available. It's about six miles from Ranch Inn. The fee will be $75/rig. Ranch Inn definitely did NOT want to store a trailer for that time. -
To be honest, it was running ~25° in the morning for a couple weeks, and before that it was raining, so I don't ALWAYS get to do the fun commute. The fun route usually adds about 1/2 hour over the direct route, but on Fridays bad freeway traffic puts it about even.

I finally got my GoPro video camera working, so I thought I'd show the interesting bit of my regular Friday evening commute (though it doesn't seem nearly as interesting on video as it does in real life :? ): Turn audio down, it's just crackles. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y64/squarefour/th_pict2-short1.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y64/squarefour/th_pict2-short2.jpg

Hey, great info! Were the problems mostly engine-related? Maybe we could fit the giant canister air filters the desert racing guys use:) That stuff can also work it's way into electrical switches and cause issues, but pretty much all my switches are waterproof/dustproof.

I just had the interesting idea of having a "fun-only" autocross on one of the remote dry lake beds in Socal. If you haven't been, the surface is dried mud that is slippery but very very smooth. Obviously, low speed turns with lots of sliding. The only danger to the cars is lots of fine dirt and dust. I'm thinking it would be nothing official, just an under-the-radar "gathering of folks". A few of the lake beds are on (so far) fully open land. A while back there was an "informal gathering" of about 30 airplanes that landed on a lakebed, had a catered lunch, and flew off. Absolutely legal, no permits required. Downsides: Good air filters needed. Lots of cleaning afterward. Trailering probably required, as the lakebed I'm thinking of for this is 3 hours of washboard road from the highway. May alienate local landsailers for disturbing their surface. Their fears are unfounded, as a rain with wind does a lot more damage. Should probably do this on a weekday to minimize issues. Also, bring brooms and clean up afterward. As I read through that list I realize nobody will go for it, but man I think it would be a hoot!

I'm afraid so. My crescent didn't open quite enough for the UBJ jamb nut. Gert actually brought that red monster with him on the tour (lucky for me).

Former vette owner, mind you:) '99 FRC (Z06ish, without the extra power). Once I got done with the 7, I found I was never driving the vette anymore, so i sold it. A buddy has it, and he's having a lot of fun with it in HPDE3 in AZ, so that's cool. Is that all?

The car did fine. I, however, was on the slow side.:ack: But steady improvement over the two days, so I guess that's good. I did have it on the Streets of Willow once, two years ago. I've done a few track days ~5 years ago in the 'vette. I put the Hoosiers on for the second day, when it was aboout 25° with a bit of moisture on the track in the morning. I gently accelerate out of a turn, and, bang, I'm on a Tilt-a-Whirl. Full 360, pointed straight down the track again, never touching dirt. Chuckling nervously, I go on. Eight minutes later, exactly the same thing happens. No longer chuckling, i park it and wait 1.5 hours for the track to dry out. After that, the slicks worked great!

Paid a whole $20 for this photo! Holiday Test Festival at Buttonwillow, with my new Hoosier bias slicks. http://usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1463762850_track-day-12-9-07-small.JPG

I'll go ahead and admit here that I was actually driving point a little bit ahead of John, and I did exactly the same thing in exactly the same spot. I, however, was able to restart, back up and clear out of there before the paparazzi arrived...

At 1:30 there's the clearest illustration of heel-and-toe technique I've ever seen. It should be used in driving schools:)

Since I was too lazy to bring a camera, I'll let GoogleEarth provide them... http://usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/16045256_SLO-blat.jpg http://usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/2103122341_SLO-blat2.jpg
