  1. The Fury has been sitting in my studio garage on jackstands-wonderful. In its clear gelcoat shes translucent flesh colored with alloy bits, a splash of yellow from the spax. I have been working on exhaust fitting and panel fit-glassing and sanding-being intimate. I have cut and welded the exhaust with a torch. A bonding welding experience. It has come to me as a silly thought to finish the car in camo in the style of the RAF with Roundrel, and perhaps front turn signals in the shape of 20mm cannons-flashing, The thoughs that pas thru ones mind while in Bliss! The folks from the Toyota 4A forum, feel that this is a 180rwhp engine 8000rpmish-its engineered by Yamaha and most feel that it is a reverse engineering of the Ford Cosworth BD series , but improved. Neat Kevin in Heaven
  2. I have 2 new fiberglass bucket seats (18 inch wide) for 7 with padded snap in foam/vinyl, $200.
  3. This Fury be mine-came to terms with seller-paypal deposit, truck on way. Its a blank canvas for me-Peter Max, hurt your eyes neon green, a wrap? I got pulled into making a deposit on the Polaris Slingshot-$20K-but 1700 pounds, I have had 4 Sevens-been there done that-this is the relationship I have been hoping for-FURY. 9. The race (autocrosss and road course) is between a series 2 race prep 7, 145HP rwin cam and a Meyers Tow'd 120HP, Porsche . Both tube framed cars-for Chapman the 6/7 his first real extension from modified austins and fords, for Bruce Meyers-his first extension from the VW pan. About 850 Tow'd built, Sub 3000 7s. Both "street legal" I have owned a bunch of loti-several 7s-and I think the minimalistic-tow'd with an open wheeled configuration, might sing an interesting tune. The trades of steering box for rack steering, the balance issue under acceleration=wheelies,I like the thought of engine heat behind me, and then swing axle rear with the tow'd-Mk6 lotus used a swing axle cut from a solid ford axle. Had a swing front and in an Allard, and a swing in the rear on a Karman Ghia-don't much care for the feel of swing-but never chased the issue with compensators and such. So head to head in use --which is hotter?
  10. Please check PMs for realist/cash/done deal offer-
  11. Hi all, been thru several 7s several loti and Allards, TVRs and the rest of the "special cars" The flooded SV caught me again-now happily married to a 91 Miata BRG with mods. I have been looking at the 3 wheelers and mid-engined not rear engined sand rails-800-1000 pounds, tube frame-With air-cooled VW power 100-200hp-more water cooled WRX stuff. Where I live in Maryland with VW components these cars could get Historic Tags and be registered as a Street Rod. They are on CL and ebay at $4Kish, Funky wheels, no front brakes, ?? Any one think they can zap me like a 250hp 7 but will wheelie as well? A full tubular -no skin experience-with a stinger exhaust. wadda ya think?
  12. The car offered is currently represented and being sold in a common medium,I bid on it. When I suggested to the owner and dealer that the HLR revealed that the car was in dispute relative to lack of frame number and contested Lotus Data plate number, they used the words slander and libel, and said that they would convey this dispute information to the "new owner", that they knew about the dispute but were confident that they had the real car-with a history that extended back 25 years of the cars 50plus years of being. Over 40 years, i have owned perhaps 15 lotus and lotus inspired cars. This particular car is cute and clean, I am not a lotus "know it all" I made an offer on the car based on its disputed number. real money but less than an undisputed car. Like Bugattis and AC Cobras, and Racing Jaguars even Lotus 23s and 11s-there were less built than offered for sale at present. I will note that I have not disclosed the dealer, owner or serial number of this particular car. I do not want to hear from any lawyer. The sellers still have the opportunity to disclose this information to potential buyers-but then again-a dispute will make the car worth less than an undisputed car, buyer beware! Don't buy a Manx dune buggy-unless it's a Meyers Manx. Or a Westfield 11 represented as a Lotus 11, or whatever-
  13. How would you respond to a situation wherein you agreed to buy a Lotus Seven-pre 1971 and learned that the car offered was one of several that shared that same serial number as revealed by the historic lotus register? Would you prefer to hear this dispute before or after the sale? Would the seller, if they were aware of this information, be obligated to disclose?
  14. Having tried wind wings, aero screens, no windshield-all painfull my best suggestion is what I call a 7/11 winscreeen-smooth. Kevin Kearney
  15. The Westfied offered in Maine (I tried to post details on the for sale site and got blocked since I am Unpaid). Was my first 7. I sold it through racecars.com and the fellow picked it up at rush hour in DC and drove it home thru the night to Maine. There were about 130 pre-lit cars built very few were LHD-they were copies of the S1/7-with several better features than the Caterhams of the same peroid-non-sway intergrated bar upper links on the front suspension, 4 fore/aft tubes in the trans tunnel (none on the caterhams) and a 5 link panhard rear suspension-rather than the horrid A frome of Lotus S2/3s When delivered it had a 1275 MG engine with the non-synco box 1st gear box and a Datsun 210 rear, wire wheels, S1 fenders and nosecone. I replaced the drivetrain with a 1600 X-flow, ported head, twin Delorttos, single rail FMCO semi-CR box-the wheels were upgraded to 14 inch Magnesium Mini-lites with spline drive and knockoffs. It was a good car-it must be 15plus years since I sold it. Have owned 3 7s since, no regrets Kevin Kearney
  16. Michael, My other pastime is long distance "trawlering" and I am engaged with that for a while-haven't been in a car for 2 months-my 7 is under covers and I am headed for guatamala-have no idea when I will get back, presently in Flordia-miss home and the river roads-don't miss the cold. Kevin Kearney
  17. The DSK folks did some calculations on a standard S2/7 frame and the number was about 300 pounds per degreee, the DSK frame was more like 1600 per degree-and Elan frame was almost twice that around 3000 per degree-I am away from my car files and my numbers might be off a bit but not by orders of magnitude. A stiffer frame allows softer suspension-less cracking. Kevin Kearney
  18. Having owned several sevens-the principal problem is having the exhaust on the same side as the driver-using an engine that has a right side exit on a LHD car IMO is the only way to go-otherwise its a compromise on exhaust headers vs, steering shaft, vs drivers footwell, vs, eardrums-its all like sitting on a painfull object-that hurts and all the insulation in the world won't stop 1200 degrees from traveling 6 inches and cook you good- Kevin Kearney 235hp Cosworth YBM/DSK Framed Lotus 7
  19. Hi Danny I live in Bethesda, and might like your tranny as a spare-There are Escort 4 speeds with intergrated bellhousings and cable cluch actuation-single rail with the gearshift at the back of the tailshaft and 3 rails with the gearshift starting out in the center of the trans and then extending-single and 3 rails have seperate bellhousings and have hydraulic slave cylinders. The one I would like is called a 2000E single rail-alloy tailhousing-basically available in the 1968 and onward cortinas and lotus cars. Kevin Kearney Lotusman1951@yahoo.com

  24. Cars are the sculpture of our time-cars as art-the development of a style an engineering. Just because something looks like a Lotus Seven --well there is more to it than that. The 11 has more to do with being a 7-its conception and execution than--most of the 7 like objects. More than most commuities that love cars, we have difficulties in appreciating this cars remarable history and its development, Chapmant whored out the car with the series 2&3&4, sold the "rights to" Caterham and Birkin and some in South America and was embarassed by its continued sales--although the money supported the company in pre Elan years. Despite that it remains a balls to the wall Supercar when developed within its original format It is in that shared original format that the 11 is its "twin" just dressed up a bit with more clothing. CARS AS ART.
