1 Birkin, 1,600+ miles, 3 days and a 13 year old co-pilot
lotusman1951 replied to Yeti's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Ship it to Camp Hill and do the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Fall. Focus on 500 degrees of heat 10 inches from your hip and 12 from your feet, 105 Db into your ears. Unless you have latex or gel seat foam, spine compression, if it rains, you need a wiper for the inside of the windshield. This proposed trip is a SM introduction into what can be a lifelong love with pleasure in one hour increments-USA7 members should not encourage this adventure. Its not dangerous-just wrong. To much of a good thing. Truly -
Thrill is gone. The Fury is everything I hoped it could be-I have 900 mile on it, anything that needed sorting was sorted. I have had 4 Sevens-and what makes this car different-is the comfort level-the wind BLAST is not there, the heat intrusion is way less, the power is different with the supercharger-its a bit of a MAD-MAX engagement-its an adjustable engagement on manifold pressure-so when it comes on it COMES ON-neat. The body squeeks a bit, and I have never installed the tops or side windows. After my ultimate DSK 7-YBM cossie-I "gave up"-and then this car popped up-when I had just sold my trawler and needed something to do with my mechanical doodling as an alternate to stopping a 50 year old boat from sinking- It was a neat process-all the best stuff used-there were mistakes to be corrected in the Transmission and engine-but basically a clean project-and like a crossword puzzle-now done its done-and all I do is go to Cars and Coffees, show, tours, market-and I have been doing that for 45 years-enough. It sold and I retracted the deal for 20K-at 200 miles-Its a very special car, A combo of a 7 and a 26-the engine is basically a improved BDR clone by Yamaha. Ford and Cosworth-claimed that Toyota and Yamaha-copied their work-but then agin there never wasa Supercharged BD engine. So for best Offer over 20K ( the going rate for a 30 year old Caterham with a pushrod) -this basically new, legal rocket can be yours. I will ebay it next week. Kevin 301 229 8820

Eventually the frame is organic-tube rust different metals cracks and repairs-and as an investment-the foundation is suspect-and there are duplicate VIN numbers out there. If you were buying an AC Cobra-same issues-so the continuation cars are in competition with the originals. In Cobra world this makes for a big spread in values, In lotus 7 world the originals are very close to the valuation of all the other things that look like a Lotus 7. So what I would like is a S1 7 climax and dedion-Mike Brotherhood had one but it was a replica and the Lotus Register won't tell you who owns them-

Bill, The 2 miatas turned into 1 miata, a 08GT with automatic-feels kinda numb-I like the seat heater. In the long run-having a real lotus lotus is best-I would love a 50K series 1 7 with climax and dedion. There is something to have been created, during racings off seasons that kept lotus afloat-having been designed by a young man-in the end will be valued from that perspective. The early 7s have that value

Three series 2 sevens sold this week, one (Texas)in bare frame for $5K, another in California modded and restored with crossflow $22.5K and an original restored with crossflow $25.5K New Jersey-all real not replica LOTUS. The 79 Caterham/DSK went for $20K theres a CSR260 in ebay for 30K and 2 pushrod dedions on this list for 30K. I recall a change in Dedion frame design at some time-more universal for LHD/RHD-does anyone recall that change over year-trying to think out the differences in the offered 1996 and the 2000, Also in these vintage Caterhams- am I to expect cast iron calipers and hub assemblies, same about transmission gear ratios-would a Caterham always have a close ratio gearset-or standard Sierra/ford, and lastly would LSD be standard? Well thats the state of the market at the moment, I am still looking Kevin

7 values the BAT 1962 LOTUS 7

I had a Mercury GT with a 23C body-too racy for street work. -
I have been looking for an investment quality vintage lotus-with the frame numbers that make John Wilson of the register happy. The BAT advertised 1962 seems to have the classic frame mods, the later Caterham rear axle, and a cross flow instead of the perhaps original 1500 Ford or perhaps even an A series MG. So a modded, updated car with series 3 rear fenders. But Chronometrics real Lotus ID and a strong car-and you gotta love RHD. And then there is the BD engined 1991 Caterham Dedion framed nothing else special-no dry sump, alloy brakes or fuel cell, Basically a 25 year old Caterham with a $10,000 engine and that's for a steel crankshaft and rods etc. So in the world of values and driving experience, and the self confidence to say yes its a real lotus or continuation car. Which one should sell for more and why---this is not about being critical about either car as represented by the sellers. Just thinking

Brake Pad Choice - Low HP Westfield

Change the bore size of your master cylinder -
In the end I felt if I sit on it rather than in it--so it became an investment decision price went to $78.5K. I basically want to be happy and joyful in the use of my rolling investments- I am 5 11, 165 pounds and 8.5 feet-it wasn't a perfect fit-and then all the leftover issues-will become part of a trade deal involving a 328GTB-so its gone. PS I tossed all my old road and tracks-Car Porn-I found the ad for the only lotus 37 in a 60s R&T-this is what started the look for a special car. Kevin

excited Mc Queen drove an 11-this is just like his, kinda-no history available on McQueens --For me its art. hope to make it work-better than the stock market-like 10 years 200% TRY 550 AND SPEEDSTERS this is what james dean and mcQueen went to after porsches--and I get to communicate with it...oh joy

I had a mk8 imported from UK-patched tubing-replaced front tube where swingarms attached. It had an SAH tuned TR2 engine, dedion rear and alfin drum brakes. So this eleven 234 is a maybe-But what you want is a lotus Progress? Arch? Frame-there were others and a Williams and Prichard body-The evaluation was quite detailed-by an owner with a frame number about 10 away-so experienced-and this frame 234 was close but no prize-enough so in the future there will be questions- and I don't like doubt for $100K
-
So-I am playing price with the 11. I need to go slower and polish and putter with a small vintage car. I get close-and run and check with John Wilson about "how many" of certain cars have the same LOTUS COMPONENTS data plate and numbers. John basically does not trust any car that comes from New England. I owned 2 early lotus tube framed cars-that were lightened organically-rust-and its so much easier to replicate than repair. That was the founding of Westfield. I have chased type 30s before-nice. Its a fact that tube framed lotus clones-there are alot-you can get blueprints-and roll your own. So I am looking for and investment quality parkway driver-that does not try to kill me like the Allards did-You really begin to fear divided, swing axle front suspensions- There
