  1. seeking John Watson OKed S1 7 $25k basic more for clixmax and dedion. If there was any art to 7s it was the S1. I know how to care for these cars. Kevin 301 229 8820
  2. My experience with BAT concerned the sale of my FURY-they did not want to list it at my reserve-which I got on Ebay. Its BATs model to sell cars not to waste time with high reserves. The Fury was a special car the Kurtis is as well-If I list with them its for a reserve I pick-not what they tell me to do. Not angry-but would like a more focused marketing approach. Kevin
  3. I have created a 900 pound 100hp 70 year old historically significant used by champions race car that works on the street and would be quite rapid on a closed course or dirt. Its one of 550 built between 1946-1952-few remain and those that do are rarely street equipped, if any. Kurtis Kraft built more Indy winners than any other builder-First in tube frames, soft suspensions, best materials-spherical bearings, fiberglass, and lightweight design. This car is an extended wheelbase-for more interior room-kinda a Harley seating position. Broomstick brake lever to 3 discs, 3 speed and reverse-instead of what they called an in or out box. Self Starter, they were push started originally, Battery lights, horn, speedo, muffler. It is registered as a 1947 Kurtis Kraft Midget/Roadster-meaning that I have legal papers-Its history includes ownership buy an 9 time Indy racer and Midget Hall of Fame person. I see this being of limited/specialized market-Its a very intense car-challenging in a historic way-if you think a Lotus 7 responds by thought-this would make you think again. I have used racecars.com in the past-I think this would also fit into the Hot Rod World-I would be interested in non US markets for old cars with papers-Germany-for example. This forum has been great in ferreting out Sevens-indeed special cars (I have owned 4) so perhaps some advice on the Kurtis?? Kevin Kearney Cabin John MD I will post some photos as a backup
  4. Michael-What I was trying to express was that you can use my space to store/use your 7-Its close to you and safe-Kevin
  5. Michael, I sold the Fury last week, have garage space, will maintain car and use it 500 miles per year non-racing in exchange-no room for trailer-you know my opinion on price so--access-continued ownership by a qualified-no incident lotus owner- Kevin
  6. Discussions on miata forum talk to con rod issue with this engine and conversions to 2.5 replacements
  7. The wrap process was very not easy-did a poor job on the nosecone 3 plus hours-spray painted the tail and bonnet nice job in less than an hour- 120sf of wrap was a $120 education in the limits of my skills. Kurtis on Ebay at present
  8. I have basically finished the restoration of the Kurtis/Stuedebaker 1947 Midget race car and it has been an education. In the 70s I had a lotus Mk8 this car was in like condition with the exception of tube rust. The Kurtis is a 70yo race car that paused for a few decades in storage-before roll cages and wheels larger than 12 inch ,magnesiums. Its supposed to weigh 900 pounds and has 100hp Its a very simple racer-pre NASCAR and peaked in 1947-1951. I did a total AN conversion-all hardwear, brakes, fuel-chrome parts, 4.5 inch headlights and LED taillights- What makes these type cars impossiable for the street is that the starting system is push the gear is in or out-no ratios/reverse-and they are very cramped. This Kurtis was raced into the 60's by a Midget Hall of Famer driver-and things were "developed"-The Mk8 that I had the correct split ford axle front suspension like a mk 6-but a rack and pinion steering system-old race cars get developed over time. This Kurtis has a later coil over quick change that moved the wheelbase back from 72 to 77 inches( a 7s wheelbase is 88 inches)and I captured 5 more inches in seatimg room for the driver, the car was also developed with a 3 speed/reverse gearbox/starter/battery and electric cooling fans and alternator. I have added lights-taken the bumpers and roll hoop out. II removed excess unused weld ons and left evidence of previous approaches-and also will be attempting to keep other forensics car color and numbers-There are removable panels on the car a mix of fiberglass and alloy-I have stripped the alloy panels down to white alloy finish and will be wraping the glass in the same color this week-some members wanted to see the car or questions about wraping-call and visit soon- I think I am going to post on BAT $49 March sale-so soon Kevin 301 229 8820
  9. Is it just me-not seeing a price? Let me just add a note for 7 novices you will so much more enjoy having a right side exhaust, like on this offered car, for noise and heat protection. kevin
  10. Michael, I would give some thought to wrapping instead of painting-thats where I am going to do with the Kurtis. as I recall you have stress cracks in your fiberglass which will just reappear with paint-the wrap choices range from carbon fiber to chrome and everything in between-and its something that you should be able to do yourself-I have had 2 7s painted a MACCO with the winter sale on now for $300-I would avoid the Silver Spring shop from a bad experience with a Miata I had done a few years back. Kevin
  11. Its here-no numbers-body off, great garage art, leaks oil, bogas stuff from being a 70yo race car visits welcome Kevin 301 229 8820
  12. I found some books on Kurtis Krafts-A Genealogy of Speed Kurtis Kraft Midgets-2 volumes yet-$150 on Amazon. and it tells me where serial numbers should be-if the car has numbers at all. Its like frame numbers on 7s near the hydraulics on later S2 and 3s. So-the seller is a one year flip on a car he found on local craigslist from a 91 year old widow-dead husbands car-in storage 25 years since last use. He knows cars and did not find numbers but if they are there they are in a special spot, which you need the book to learn. So the car gets picked up after the 28th
  13. I like to think of cars as art, moving sculpture. So yes lotus 7 style headlights and a single light in the rear. Since there is no title I am going to get one as a 1947 Kurtis Kraft and pick a serial number over 550 (factory built cars) and under 1100 which would be the kits Kurtis sold. I suppose I will use thre International title servicefor paperwork and my local trophy shop to create a data plate. So if I am playing with serial numbers 666--evil or 777--lucky.
  14. Bought the car, intimidating. I am seeing youtubes of these cars beating all on vintage road courses. If less is more, this takes it to another level-no transmission linkage-just engage this stub lever-brakes no room in the footwell outside left lever engages 3 discs. It has a clutch and 3 gears, starter, alternator, the flathead 6 purrs, electric cooling fan. It looks like a amusement park bumper car, Kurtis Kraft won everything back in the day-a rude crude, bugatti like when using an offy-which bugatti copied in the 20s from Miller. I will get it around Feb 1 from Flordia, my best shipper I95 Transporter will do the job-someone you can trust. Bob I would love your camera here to see the car--known history was th
  15. Will visit car in orlando on thursday
  16. Duh-Johnny Dangerous-70 yo Seven stomper or garage art.-Point to point anything faster to 100mph?
  17. Made deposit last night. 900 pounds. 85-100hp, 80 inch wheelbase-something new to learn.
  18. For me its the reverse gear-I need that to e streetable. will a midget go in a straight line-or twitchy over 60mph? kevin
  19. I am looking for an investment car-small and light. Always tempted by Lotus 7s series 1, but I want a real one and if you have one, talk to me . I helped push alone a stalled restoration of one in northern virginia, painted it 1991 miata brg-and Larry Shauf- I tried to buy his-and others over time-So something the 7 register knows mid 20s to 40k for dedion cliamax. But my thoughs at the moment turn to Kurtis Kraft -I had an Allard K2 for 20 plus years and -well Kurtis was very critical of Allards-so I learned more towards right and wrong--and 7s being where I went---But the Kurtis Midgets-long bugatti/lotus like specials-like every american race for decades. I am looking at a 1947 Kurtis Kraft Midget with 3 speed and reverse. Flathead stuebaker 6 pot with twin carbs, 4 wheel disc brakes. I can street legal this in Maryland and do cars and coffee in Great Falls 10 parkway miles distant -so an open wheeled, single seater with 4 wheel disc brakes, There were only about 1000 of these made they are heros, they look like clown bumper cars -so as an experienced Allardist and lotus lover will this stir my juices Kevin
  20. Get AAA+ tow insurance and drive-the tow is good for 2-300 miles
  21. Pre-lit Westfields about 1981 had 3 major improvements later Caterhams in part adopted. Front suspension without including swaybar in upper link, Full 2 A arm suspension. Transmission tunnel tubed in and skinned-way stronger 5 link rear suspension like a Series 1 Seven. So pre-lit Westfields are superior to earlier Caterhams or s2/3 loti 7s-Westfields engineering basically pushed caterham to mess with the early 7 frame/suspension. They are special cars
  22. 20K Again 301 229 8820
  23. -these are the things many dream of and few live-love it
  24. people are dancing about its "realness or replication"
  25. In the Fury the hydraulics are below the headers-say 10 inches-the plastic tops of the Tilton large container is melting. It might be because I fan cool the exhaust and the heat was directed there-for 20 mins with the fan on while I looked at other cars-or not. I split a silicon hose over the tops for the moment as a heat block-and I am buying new master cylinders-perhaps with metal fluid containers-or remotes. I would like some more pressure in the brakes-do I go up or down in bore size to accomplish this? Kevin 1015 miles with smiles
