Nostalgia has me daydreaming about coastal California touring in a naked X-flow S3 lotus clone. It was offered in Hemmings, noted by Croc, I made an offer and I wonder if this goes towards sale I would appreciate a lotus loony like myself to give it a look. I owned a pre-lit sprite based series 1 westfield 7-and other sevens since. This is a consignment sale at Classic Cars West. These cars can have horrid frame coating peeling, is it a cable or hydraulic clutch, 711 block or earlier, that sort of stuff. Perhaps the owner is within our group. These later S3 Cortina, verses the earlier sprite cored S1 versions resulted in 120 LHD/RHD Pre litigation Westfield 7s, Caterham was threatened with the less expensive with improved front and rear suspensions than the Caterham of that time. Yes I chased that ad. The dealer has disappeared, I have contacted the Arizona lotus club, no luck. I bought it as a roller. It had been a SEMA show car for the Miami Cosworth distribtor Select Sales Ian McKensie, Installed a YBM from the UK. Ran it for 10 years did 5000 miles, sold it bought a Krypton Green Elise, did 5000 miles in 1 year. Sold that and bought a NC Miata-and lived happily ever after. Obviously deranged.

Been thinking about the second generation of Panoz roadsters as a next. Very little out there, 2300 pounds, 4 cam, 4 valve alloy V8, IRS, air conditioned. Strange and ugly like Allard J2s. I have been 7 less for a decade, went into Elises, run a lightened/cammed retired MGTD race car now-and thinking Panoz. I wonder if there are quirks with this choice, beyond, heat, noise and vibration, If anyone knows about the availability of SB1881 DSK7 frame with YBM-my search might sway away from Panoz. Presently with an MG TD race car, used on street, I got tired of searching for Series 1 7s with "blurred" histories, TDs have no such replication histories, and the ones with VW engines are clearly wrong from a distance. So I am in the outer limits of small fast things, been there for years, don't know better. I have the whole legal thing set, I live in Maryland where everything is cool. So if one were to venture into the world of classic Formula Vee race cars exactly which would be the , most wonderful of them all. Keep the weight down, alloy what you put in, strive for 999 pounds and consider it art!, It's a bastard, but grace at under 1000 pounds is achievable.

It's like being an drunk , declaring your last drink. I am 67 last week and have enjoyed in series many limited production and special English sporting cars. Knowing Miatas has steered me right, BRG NAs to my NC with automatic. Having enjoyed within sevendom a Westfield S1, Lotus S2, DSK Cosworth and a Caterhan DeDion. I tried for a while to buy an authenticated S1,or a truly special S2 like a 7/20, 37 , The problem is that the ease of replicating everything on these cars is simple. That and the excellent replicas and continuation products, For me in my more experienced years a SV Caterham with a passenger side exhaust would still work.But that's not really a Lotus is it? What I did last year was purchase a 1951 MG TD VSCCA race car, street driven 1800 pounds 90hp/7000rpm, the few replicas of this are Siata Springs and fiberglass sorry things. It's not a 7. So for the past week I have been bidding on a new unfinished RHD S2 Lotus replica, bid $6666.66 the devil's number, it went past that with hours to go, I am writing this now before I connect with eBay. Perhaps to bid $7777.77, my favorite number. Sometimes I feel like a drunk staring through the window of a bar looking in, wondering why? I am sure I am not alone with this issue.
