  1. Yeah the drift events are great for that- keeping it off the streets is the only option. I can't wait for dedicated drift courses so the endless search for parking lots (for legal drifting events) will be over. The wing...well its pretty far beyond stall angle, has a unsmooth lower profile, and was purchased from a junkyard for $6. I've only ever run it at drifting events (not really PC enough for the street) where im going slow or sideways...but it seems to make me drift better Someday hopefully i can do some more technical testing, but for now its just for show. I hope some of you might consider drifting you cars...it is very challenging, yet feels amazing once you nail your first slide. It can be harsh on cars, but take your time and check things and it'll be ok.
  2. Did some drifting last weekend. Half the day was wet too. My friend/tow driver is an awesome photographer (I feel), and got some cool shots of me trying to get sideways. http://bandydesign.com/photohost/FAT/121_1024.jpg http://bandydesign.com/photohost/FAT/453_1024.jpg http://bandydesign.com/photohost/FAT/11.jpg http://bandydesign.com/photohost/FAT/20.jpg More pictures here http://bandydesign.com/photohost/FAT/fatdrift Fun stuff! Anyone else have wet driving pictures?
  3. i love how much respect the seven gets from bike. It makes me want to do a bec. I've come to realize how much more bikers seem to enjoy blats than car owners. I think my favorite encounter had a turbo busa rider telling me I was crazy for what I was driving
  4. the car is currently out of commission...i snapped a front lower suspension bracket and bent another due to fatigue failure...something about braking from high speeds in reverse...can't learn to drift if you dont spin so it'll be off the road for a week or two. I managed to tweak my shoulder and its been hurting for a few days now and im taking it super easy on it...its hard not to work on the cars >_ The locost suspension is fighting with ITBs for the locost engine, a v8 miata, a turbo e30, and a merkur lemons car for attention (among other things).
  5. :D awesome! I used a lot of RA parts while building the locost, and contacted them about getting into their monthly newsletter back in april i believe. They are really great people to deal with, and their website is top notch.
  6. http://files.getdropbox.com/u/75436/tt2p3-43.jpg i agree!
  7. hahaha, it wasn't on the car...probably would have saved me too!
  8. throttle + puddle + concrete = :[ hit the back wheels...it looks like lots of positive camber on one side, and about 4 degrees toe on on the other side bent the frame a bit. i had my deep tread allseason (drifting) tires on the back, and r888s on the front. I'm fine. probably a good thing to have this minor accident now...I've been getting overly confident with the car >_ Time to do some big repairs before a drifting event saturday! where is that list of 'things that you must do/that happen while owning a seven'?
  9. nope, no gf right now. i've found that the locost is a very big dude magnet, hence adding the wing interestingly, girls balance the car out for drifting perrrrrrrfectly ;D
  10. lol...it was a shop rag on the end of my camera boom! normally the wing is visible enough, but I took it off to be PC while driving around atlanta...didn't want to get in trouble http://files.getdropbox.com/u/75436/DSC_0600.jpg http://files.getdropbox.com/u/75436/zach2.jpg
  11. was it an awesome looking car?

  14. http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/75436/locostUSAforums/IMG_1909.JPG nissan forklift.
  15. Thanks for the compliments. It was well worth the effort. I am really happy with the hood. The cutout as a whole didnt take too long (a few days work?)...just lots of test fitting and hammering over rounded wooden blocks. I'm a little backwards. I got my donor car (free) before I decided to build the locost. So that defined the 22RE/w58. I like the torque and reliability. We'll see how hard it is to get more of the first though. The supra rear end is sort of a hack job to get a cheap junkyard LSD in there (it uses only 4 of 8 bolt holes, and puts the axles at some bad angles). The mounts are designed for the smaller celica rear end. Eventually I will put ae86 corolla GTS insides into my celica diff, or just build up a new unit with an aftermarket LSD. It has the celica diff in it now, and I dont like the 3.8:1 ratio, 1-wheel burnouts, or metal-on-metal noise. $$ issue for now (but the supra diff can still go in for drift days, etc). The rack is a triumph spitfire rack. The knuckles are modified mcphereson struts from the celica, swapped side to side to give front steer instead of rear steer. There is quite a bit of anti-ackerman at full lock that I'd love to get rid of, and more steering angle couldn't hurt! time to go exercise her before bed!
  16. http://tshtrikes.com/ they have a pretty nice blog about their follies into trike building. I agree though that the CRX is a little...strange.
  17. updated pics in the members rides section. registration is now open for the gatech auto show at http://www.gatechautoshow. If you have something cool, you can enter is as a 'tech fan'. Since cars should arrive at the show at 10-11am, we should probably meet at my place at around 7:30-8ish. I live about 3 minutes from the Varsity. We can talk about 7s and all that fun stuff then caravan to the show. PM me if you need directions (which you should, unless you stalk me?). Rob, is your car ready?
  18. http://www.gatechlocost.com/wordpress/wp-content/gallery/3-6-09/IMG_1948.jpg The abe lincoln is holding a boombox on the hood, and that is mario on the back. So far, I've gone on two late night blats (about the only time Atlanta streets are clear...) and had tons of fun. I have also done a drifting event (just go try it!!!) and an auto-x test and tune, and a few car meets (at the Varsity).
  19. 4 picture/post limit? http://www.gatechlocost.com/wordpress/wp-content/gallery/3-6-09/IMG_2083.jpg http://www.gatechlocost.com/wordpress/wp-content/gallery/3-6-09/IMG_2118.jpg very important reminder while drifting http://www.gatechlocost.com/wordpress/wp-content/gallery/3-6-09/100_0375.JPG http://www.gatechlocost.com/wordpress/wp-content/gallery/3-6-09/IMG_1907.jpg
  20. Newer pictures. The dash has since been painted too! http://www.gatechlocost.com/wordpress/wp-content/gallery/2-17-09-kisskiss/IMG_1755.jpg http://www.gatechlocost.com/wordpress/wp-content/gallery/2-17-09-kisskiss/1_s.jpg http://www.gatechlocost.com/wordpress/wp-content/gallery/2-17-09/IMG_1645.jpg http://www.gatechlocost.com/wordpress/wp-content/gallery/3-6-09/IMG_1910.jpg
  21. My Locost- 50.2% rear bias with me in it, and no front fenders. 1470lbs without driver.
  22. when would be a good date for you guys?
  23. eek at the prices...they start to add up quickly for the LOG stuff. Does anyone care to adopt a college student for the weekend? :yesnod: Im looking forward to seeing the usa7s event list.
  24. This certainly makes it easier for me to attend. I really hope it doesnt add to much distance for anyone else. imho, the Barber Motorsports Museum is a great place to visit (especially with a great tour guide, ) and the track is beautiful. I'm very excited!
  25. Kit car got boring quickly for me. I could only read about cobras and 550's so much. Sport compact car is quite good, but I got tired of having to call primedia monthly to have them send me their various subscriptions that were always 'lost in the mail'. SCC also had engineering articles, but some issues made fun of the idea of doing it yourself or even bothering to crunch your own number. grassroots motorsports and classic motorsports for me thanks. hemmings sports and exotics is good too.
