1. Another option is to use your phone. I use my iPhone XR and Harry’s lap timer app and the video turns out nice even using the front facing selfie lens. The app also integrates with go pros and additional iPhones allowing for alternate angles or pip.
2. Looks like a great track and a great run. You definitely used every inch of the track they gave you thru those turns. Great job!
3. That is great to hear! I was afraid that I was going to have more money in a dry sump setup than my engine! Now onto researching accusumps and oil pans. Are you running a TKO600? Since my LS1 with Cam (ASA cam) and LS6 Heads will only do about 400hp/400torque I am planning to use my existing t5 until it blows up (hoping it will take a season as our cars are less than half the weight of the road cars it was used in and rated to handle 300hp/torque). I really need to get a usable 5th gear though. .64 doesn't help at all so I top out in 4th at 117mph.
4. Thanks I try to keep it both on the track horizontally and vertically as much as I can. I will shoot Jeff H a pm. I haven't seen a Caterham or any other lotus 7 at a track even in years. Would be great to have another guy out there!
5. That is great. How did he like it? I took my wife in the care with me for the first time ever. I don't think anyone really understands the speed you are going until you are in the car. She only made it 2.5 laps and started to feel nauseous. So pretty sure that will be her last time. I have 3 boys and 2 girls from 19 down to 11 so thinking maybe it is the oldest turn to try it out. BTW is your LS engine dry sumped? If so what system are you using? My 3800SC engine is still holding on but I have an LS1 in the Garage for when it goes out. Still debating on whether I spend the money to make it dry sump or treat it like the 3800SC and if it blows just replace it for $1500.
6. Thanks I will tell him liked it! Funny thing about those sundown shots. That was the last session on Saturday. I was lined up first to go out on track with a Mustang behind me. When they let me go the sun was so blinding I couldn't see the pit walls on either side of me. I was able to make it to the pit and get back off the track. The Mustang decided to continue and crashed on the main straight which is directly into the sunlight. He wasn't hurt but all his airbags went off and one side of his car wasn't looking too good.
7. So the track day season closed for me last weekend at NCM Motorsports Track in Bowling green. It was a beautiful weekend for November (75 and sunny) and I had a great time running with BingeTokyo. There were lots of Grid Life Racers there and by following them after a pass they helped me set a new personal best of 2:18.90 which was 3.66 seconds faster than I was just a month ago! I am still just floored at the amount of improvement the car has and confidence I have in its balance and predictability. Only changes this year were track pads (Hawk) and corner balancing. If you all haven't corner balanced your cars already do it! I can now put the car exactly where I want it with confidence where as prior I felt like I was always waiting for the rear end to come around on me. When I got back my youngest son put together the video above from clips I brought back from the track. Ignore any of the speeds in turns if shown. The GPS was was giving bad readings unless on a straight. I have got to figure out gearing during the off season. You will notice how I max out at 117mph no matter how long the straight is using my current setup (t5 transmission and 3.23 rear end).
8. So looks like I am running the A11 compound. I didn't see that number on the side wall but my fronts had number 2545 and rear had 2126 and I found this site ( https://rogerkrausracing.com/wp-content/uploads/bsk-pdf-manager/2018/04/Avon-A-Slicks-Radials-ZZR-ACB9-CR500-2017.pdf ) which shows an xref to A11 compound. I have been buying mine used from John Berget tires in Wisconsin. Anyone know have ideas for deals on new tires? Or if not what you all pay for new? Used are basically $90-$100 per tire shipped to me.
9. Jack lookin forward to seeing you again next year. Maybe we could have Lotus 7 owner dinner next time I come to town. Made it back from NCM and the car did great again. My tires are definitely on their last leg being about 2 years old now. But even with that I was able to shave 2 seconds off my best time at NCM. Can't wait to get new tires for next year so I can see how much that helps. Was a lot of incidents this past weekend at NCM including a lotus Evora that hit the wall coming on the main straight. No one was hurt in any of the incidents but body damage was decent in a few. From what the regulars said the track was just slicker than normal and of course cooler than the summer days. 2 more events for the year. Next weekend at Gateway in Saint Louis and then back to NCM in Kentucky on November 7th and 8th!
10. Yes that was me in the advanced group. I have a friend that also drives my car and he ran the intermediate group. Jack I would love to meet up with you and the others next time i am at Putnam. I think I am chassis 98. I bought mine already assembled by a guy that rented stalkers at vir. I even think I made it over to your house lots of years ago when I just got the car. i remember bringing my car from the track to your house in a trailer. I was white knuckling the steering wheel the whole way because I was new to trailers and the construction on the way made the roads so narrow that I was terrified:) I do remember you showing me your car (which was great) as well as how to build brookland windshields. I didn’t get far on that project but still have the piece of aluminum you told me to buy for the base! i live in saint Louis and know one other stalker owner here. He is a great guy. I won’t be back to Putnam this year but will be at ncm next weekend with 10/10ths, gateway on October 16th with pca and then likely back at ncm the first week of November with binge Tokyo. I love Putnam though so I will be back next year and will for sure call/message!
11. Sorry for the long delay. Is there a number on my Avon’s which would tell me the compound? Like Shane’s a11 compound.
12. After 10 years of tracking my Stalker I am finally considering buying my first set of new racing slicks and wanted to get suggestions. Up until now I have been running used Avon tires 10 inches wide by 23 inches tall in the back, and 10 wide by 20 tall in the front. They are all on 13 inch rims. The tires seem good to me but they are all I know. So should I stick with Avon? Or is there a better alternative? I have two full sets of wheels so I was thinking it may be best to have a set that can handle the cold mornings, spring and fall. And then another set that could handle the crazy hot summer. Suggestions for one set or both is appreciated!
13. Wanted to follow up with an update. Went to Putnam last weekend and ran the advanced group event put on by 10/10ths. Lots of ex stock cars, time trial corvettes and gt3, gt4 Porsche’s. In the advanced group you can pass anywhere with no point by. This was my first time running advanced with 10/10ths and I had a blast! I am used to running in the top of the group but this was totally the opposite where there were only a few cars that I could beat. But even so the level of speed we got up to and fun associated with passing or being passed anywhere was exhilarating. In the end I set a new personal best at Putnam by over 3 seconds and could do it consistently! The car made me feel like I could do no wrong. Need a little extra steering....just blip the throttle and the rear would come around smoothly. Heading off line...just apply throttle evenly and the car would go where I pointed it. The balance was also amazing. Zero fear of spinning out whereas I previously have spun 3 times at Putnam while going 3-6 seconds slower. Thank you guys for all the help. And I guess the moral of the story is to ensure your car is corner balanced and aligned and your axle has more than a quarter inch of clearance from your frame Next up is my new post about tires and hitting up folks like Shane and other track day junkies to find out what tweaks and major changes (wings, engines, transmission) have been the best bang for the buck.
14. Thanks and I think I am set. Shot a message to Scott M. and he confirmed loosening the spring should increase the space between the axle and the frame. So now just looking for good weather and fun day at the track this weekend in Putnam, IN.
15. Great timing for that question! I spent yesterday afternoon at my friends house corner balancing the car and here is where I ended up up. I also included the distance each of the springs are threaded up (tightening the spring): 25mm = 1 inch LF: 434 (8mm) RF: 414 (6mm) LR: 431 (0mm the shock is as loose as it can get but still has some preload) RR: 410 (6mm) Cross Weight: 844 vs 845 so 50%! Front to Back: 848 vs 841 so 50.2% vs 49.8% Side to Side: 865 vs 824 so 51.2% on drivers side vs 48.8% passenger side After the adjustments I do have close to an inch clearance between the rear axle and frame on both driver and passenger side which is much nicer than when I started.
16. Okay just got back from the garage. I added another 1.5 inches of preload to the drivers side. Afterwards I had zero clearance between the axle and the frame. Then went the opposite direction and suddenly I got more clearance. Still not up to the 1.3125 Dennis says we should have but up to .75 or so. Anyway, was I doing it the wrong way earlier and now got it right? Pictures below are post adjustment and show the current shock and the new clearance I now have. Drivers side coil loosened all the way down. FYI still has preload even when adjusted fully out like the picture below. Clearance that I now have is wayyyy better
17. Thanks Shane. I will keep cranking on the perch adding preload to see if I can get to 1 5/16 inches of clearance. Do the Gaz shocks need a lot more preload to make the clearance right? I as as I started with 1 inch and am going up from there and it from Dennis's post above I saw this line "If you set the RH to 1 5/16, and you are around 200 lbs you will have about ¾” of preload and should not get near the bump limit. If you are heavier, you may find that you are adding excessive amounts of preload (¾” to 1” is optimum for our cars.) " Here are pictures of my rear shocks. The weird thing is I have more preload on the drivers side now but still less clearance (.25 inches). The passenger side has about .75 inches of clearance between the axle and frame with about half the preload now. Drivers side: preload about 2 inches and just .25 inch clearance Passenger side the original 1 inch preload and about .75 inch clearance
18. Thanks it is going to be a fun weekend getting the car all setup for a change. Had it for years but went with the 'if it aint broke don't fix it approach'. Now looking to see what I can tweak to get more out of it. Another question that may be answered in the rake doc when you find it but not sure... My rear axle on the drivers side sits .25 inches off the frame. The passenger side sits about 1 inch. I hear I am supposed to have 1.13125 inches of clearance and to adjust it via the spring perches. Well I tried to add more preload (originally had 1 inch) to make the gap bigger to no avail. I have GAZ coilovers that I got from Dennis when he started repping them a while back. Any ideas to increase the gap? thanks!
19. Thanks for the tip on the tie rod ends. I will grind those down! If you do have any guidelines for the old stalkers would love to have them. I bought my car already put together so am just kind of winging it (which likely isn't a good idea for an IT/computer guy). BTW just finished reading all 37 pages of your owners gallery great stuff! Anyone going to Putnam with 10/10ths racing next weekend (9/19 and 9/20) would be great to see other 7's on the track!
20. Thanks for the info. Going to shoot for zero toe and -1 camber for this run. Have any other stalker owners had trouble getting to zero toe? I ask as my tie rod ends are threaded all the way in and still seems like I have some toe out.
21. Was wondering if anyone knows what alignment settings are good for a Bruntion SuperStalker on the track? This is the classic superstalker with the 3800 supercharged engine. Although come winter I am going to be asking lots of questions as I convert over to the LS1 engine sitting in my garage
22. Hi I have been running my Brunton SuperStalker (pontiac 3800 v6 supercharged) for years now at track day road racing events. The car is fantastic but as the years go on I find my lack of top end speed and 5th gear being useless (I have a tremec t5) an issue when I try to keep up with with all of the 600-800 hp cars out there. I can catch them in the turns but damn do they make a gap on every straight! So I am toying with the idea of changing out my 3.23 rear end with a 2.73. Using my t5 a 5500 rpm max shift point and 23 inch tires this would increase my 4th gear from 117 to 138 which should be enough for most tracks. Wanted to find out if anyone has done this and what they thought or if not if folks thought this was a good idea? Below is what the current and new gearing would give me using this calculator (https://www.tremec.com/calculadora.php)

Gear Trans Ratio 3.23 Top Speed 2.73 Top Speed

1 2.95 40 47

2 1.94 60 71

3 1.34 87 103

4 1.00 116 138

5 .63 (useless) 185 at lemans 219 just before i die
