    Falling Apart

sorry to hear man. that sucks
  3. BTW, there was a news story today about Colt moving to Texas
  4. Just because you don't see it in the news, doesn't mean guns aren't used for defensive purposes all the time. If you saw 10 news stories, or 100 news stories about every time a gun was used defensively, would that change your mind? This study is NOT from the NRA. Numbers vary widely, but even most conservative estimate is 65,000 defensive uses per year. http://home.uchicago.edu/~ludwigj/papers/JQC-CookLudwig-DefensiveGunUses-1998.pdf My "fantasy scenario" happens more than you think. http://atlantablackstar.com/2013/01/06/atlanta-mother-shoots-intruder-five-times-in-self-defense/ Make sure you read this link and respond... Today we had our version of the Iraqi information minister say there are no law abiding citizens concerned about their 2nd amendment rights. Seriously...
  5. Teachers do have a very tough job. I pulled my son out because it was clear it was not a good situation where he was.
  6. I love it! "Bring your guns and ammo"! Rikker, Texas and South Carolina are two of the states that are actively recruiting gun manufacturers like Magpul (Colorado), Berretta (Maryland), Colt (Connecticut) to move to their states. So, there's some truth to that. I'm willing to bet if a thug with a tire iron was in your house and someone was there to hand you a gun, you may reconsider. But I understand if you don't based on your beliefs. Nobody is forcing you to use one.
  7. Homeschooling decision was over a dispute with the school system over least restrictive environment for autism. We use the K12.com curriculum and I have to tell you it's much better organized and logical than what my other son gets from school. Lack of peers is a problem, and we will try public education again if things work out, but I don't feel powerless when I see what they decide to do isn't right. My wife and I both work with him as needed, and yes, she's home during the day (works as a therapist at the hospital part time). Maryland is supposedly the top ranked state as far as education. We're in the top ranked county in Maryland, and the best school in this county. But I gotta tell you when I compare what my son is learning in school now, compared to when I got my education in a 3rd world country, we're FAR behind here. Having said all that, the quality of the education you receive is largely dependent on the effort students and families put in. This is the real problem with our education system. I don't want to type as essay about all the things wrong with what's going on in the school system, taxes, etc... in Maryland. Many people like it here, some don't. I'm ready for a more conservative state.
  8. f = ma
  9. I was there last week. Visited Houston, San Antonio and Austin. Went a little north of Austin, to Georgetown. Liked that area. Alas, Texas is too far from family. I like the hill country though. Next stop will be Charleston, SC...
  10. sortalite, ultraquick. LOL. that's a sweet truck
  11. I home school one kid and took school system to court last year. Maryland is infringing on my 2nd amendment rights, so I will move out of this state and take my tax dollars with me. Do those count? Everybody has some cause that gets them worked up. You're right that discussing it on a forum doesn't change anything. It's more for discussion than change.
  12. The answers are simple. I'm not against examining the best ideas from other countries. Nothing wrong with that. Enlighten me on Finland's education system. I'm betting if it's any good, it doesn't just promote students to the next grade when they're not performing.
  13. heh, no Mike, my friend was driving his Camry. A bit too aggressive around a corner in the rain.
  14. I took a drive over to PKSurveyer's house. Paul showed me his garage full of win. It's always a nice problem to have to decide which Caterham you have to drive today . I got to drive one of the cats around for a while, and chat about the others for a while. I tried to make this trip last year, and the car I was in ended up on its roof. Better late than never. Thanks Paul for the hospitality.
  15. unbelievable. believe it or not, I had an instructor driving Frankn7 press gas and brake pedal together at the end of an autox run and almost put in the curb.
  16. proper way to deal with 'em... also in NJ. Different outcome. Again, they show up with no warrant and try to intimidate their way in... http://deloc.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8175
  17. Following your logic, there has never been an uprising against oppressive governments. You didn't answer my post on whether you think that family's constitutional rights to due process were violated or not. To your point, if the swat team shows up at my door, I'll turn in my registered guns. I don't want to get shot. But, if they do that enough times, there are parts of the country where local authorities will be on the side of the citizens, not the thugs. Then the citizens will shoot back to defend themselves if it comes to that. Of course their Maryland or California are one of those states.
  18. I'm sure it was an oversight and they'll get right on that.
  19. what's the definition of access? if guns are in a safe and the person with past mental problems doesn't have access to the safe, does that count? Where do her rights stop and his rights start? is there a due process for clearing your name? if you were involuntarily held, what is the process to prove it was wrong, or a temporary problem? or do you automatically lose your right? did they give this family any kind of legal notice to have a chance to state their case why they are not a threat to society? Here's from another article on the subject: Merely being in a database of registered gun owners and having a “disqualifying event,” such as a felony conviction or restraining order, isn’t sufficient evidence for a search warrant, Marsh said March 5 during raids in San Bernardino County. So the agents often must talk their way into a residence to look for weapons, he said. This is how they show up. Would you answer the door and let them in if you haven't done anything wrong? http://www.bloomberg.com/image/i6tRQitg4NJs.jpg Explain to me how this person's due process rights were not violated. Did they have probable cause for any kind of imminent danger that this person posed? Clearly they had possessed the weapon for several months after the hospital visit - the article mentions no incidents or complaints about the family. Finally, was this family compensated for the weapons removed? Or they just came in the house and took it. aside from the 2nd amendment, there are very serious constitutional issues with what's going on - at least with forth and fifth amendments. Cases like this are exactly the reason many gun owners are turning against any kind of background check.
  20. Whole new meaning to concealed carry. LOL
  21. Yup, it's starting http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/03/12/calif-gun-owner-who-says-she-admitted-herself-to-mental-hospital-for-medication-adjustment-has-guns-confiscated/#
  22. I had home made front and rear hoops on frankn7. No shield though. The only time I took her to the drag strip to see what she could do, they asked my approximate power and weight, and said to come back with a scatter shield and full cage. LOL
