UPDATE FROM CHUCK SPERA: (Small quote from private email..) Course was typical of this region Scca with many skid pad type turns, a long slalom and a couple of longish straights. I led with FTD in each run but on last run I ticked a cone and just knocked it out of the box till standing. My second run was third fastest of the day anyway and gave me third overall but first in class, nobody else even close. BTW, the co drivers of the 1st and 2nd place (same car) are professional drivers. Back on the race track I had some great runs, times still look good for me with today to be devoted entirely to race course. More later. chuck -
If anyone else was interested in a Jig located near Las Vagas I have a contact there that has one. He has a Frame jig and a partially built frame. It just was to exspensive to ship to Michigan. The amount to ship I might as well build a Jig and a car. Drop me a line and I will forward his email. I just dont want to post it for his privacy. If anyone else has any other leads please let me know Tim

Great to hear!!!! I bet Chuck had a grin from ear to ear. It will most likely take several days for his face return to normal. :hurray: Well from what I can tell I know that the car is going to be a top performer this year. With more and more seat time Chuck will be right with throwing that car around a track. I think that next year he will be top of his game and you will be seeing a lot of trophies from Chuck. Good Luck Loren and pass on a good word to Chuck and Barbie. Tim -

My good friend Chuck and Barbara Spera will have their XR7 Ultralite. Wish them luck and I hope to to hear good news from them. After having a few strange bugs show at the local Auto-X last weekend. Turns out they placed us second to last in the fourth heat and we didnt have any time to make any true repairs before the end of the test runs at the end of the day. So we packed up and headed back to the shop to scratch our heads. Chuck went through on Monday and Tuesday and made a few changes. I think we came up with a few possibilities and have address them as best as we could for the moment. I will keep my fingers crossed. GOOD LUCK CHUCK!!!! Tim -
Having worked extensivly on the brother car to this, I can tell you that they are a very race purpose built car. The cost here is a fraction of the time it would take to duplicate this in components. With EVERY car that is a custom, there are always little 'tweeks' that are needed. I would have to say that if you were shooting to to fill the trophy rack in your spare bedroom quickly, that this is one of the best starts you could get. If you think that the cost is high I dare you to goto a Honda Dealer and price the engine alone. If my memory serves me right the engine is nearly $9000.00 bare. And even doesn't come assembled. Tim

Yes you all seem to be correct,, They class ALL sevens as modified tub chassis. so add the 40 According to SCCA Solo Rules 2007: D. Minimum Weights 1. Weight vs. Displacement All listed minimum weights are with driver. DM Piston engines up to & including 1800 cc 1280 lbs. 12A rotary engines w/ porting restriction 1280 lbs. Piston engines 1801 to 2000 cc 1380 lbs. 13B rotary engines w/ porting restriction 1380 lbs. EM Piston engines up to & including 3200 cc OHC 1700 lbs. Piston engines up to & including 4500 cc pushrod/OHV 1700 lbs. 2-rotor rotary engines w/ unrestricted porting 1700 lbs. Piston engines unlimited displacement 1800 lbs. 3-rotor rotary engines w/ unrestricted porting 1800 lbs. 2. Performance Adjustments DM AWD Add 200 lbs Modified Tub Add 40 lbs EM AWD Add 300 lbs. Modified Tub Add 50 lbs 3. Weight Bias Adjustment Bias determined by weighing with driver sitting in the driver’s seat. DM RWD w/ less than 51% of the weight on the drive wheels Deduct 35 lbs FWD Deduct 35 lbs AWD Not affected EM RWD w/ less than 51% of the weight on the drive wheels Deduct 50 lbs FWD Deduct 50 lbs This is 18.1.D Now if you run a Turbo you have to Multiply your engine displacement by 1.4. Then use the adjusted Displacment to do the weights. I am going to use a Turbo engine and extra strong frame and I still will end up having to put weights in it. Removable of course for those non-anal (opps) I ment non-regulated events.

Sad thing about that is that half of those people will never has as much fun driving those cars as we do the sevens. They will be too worried that it might get wet, or pooped on by a bird. The other half most likely will never drive those cars like they were ment to be driven. Lemme guess, that was California? tnttim

WCM in Bay City Michigan for sale on EBAY. Buy It Now $19,000
tnttim posted a topic in Cars For Sale
I seen this the other day on EBay and thought that people might want to look at this, It is a Mazda Miata 1.8 Based S2K. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Replica-Kit-Makes-1-8M-1960-Lotus-Seven-WCM-Professionally-Built-Replica_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ7251QQihZ003QQitemZ130153169473QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW But still a great price for a WCM. If anyone was interested elsewhere in the country I may help them out, I am only a few hours away from Bay City. Tim -
I looked into most of the available basic kit packages but due to the Donor car I am using and the setup of the suspension I would have to make so may modification to the chassis to start with I figure it is easier to build from scratch than cut up a $2000+ frame. I was deciding on building a McSorley Wide body unless anyone has had any issues from it.
-
I might be wrong but I dont think he will get his asking price. Maybe because it is original but, I think more than $9,000 and he is lucky.

Hello, I wished to announce that I will soon have the chassis jig table set up in the Downriver (Detroit) area. I will be looking to build up two frames this winter and if someone was interested in me building another I would entertain offers. I am building a variation of the McSorley wide body chassis to accommodate the IRS setup that I am using. OR heck if you are interested in just talking about it let me know. Tim

Campbell Scientific makes an older 21X that I have seen on Ebay once in a while for a few hundred dollars. It is a Datalogging computer that I have seen dropped from a shelf and still worked. Then you just get some Accelerometers, tc, or monitor the TPS and tach, They arent to complex. Just hooking up the stuff correctly and getting it al to work is a bit much but if you do it is a good starter. Will hook to a laptop. Tim

Anyone read the latest Grassroots Motorsports? 7 vs Atom...
tnttim replied to sporqster's topic in General Sevens Discussion
They tout the Atom to be the "Ultimate Track Day Car" yet they run it in camparisions that have a standard Caterham in it. I am not knocking the Caterham guys but there is a difference. The Cat's are Street Legal to begin with. Unless you "know" someone or the DOT inspector happens to know your uncle Prez. Grant, you not getting the Atom on the street. And yes I am sure a few have squeeked by, but in Michigan a windsheild and wipers are required (at least accroding to the paperwork). If they wished to put in up against other "Track Day Cars" I am sure that Chuck Speara, Steve Brinkerhoff and all the other XR7 and se7en guys would love to show at an autocross for a bit of gentlemans competition. I personally would volenteer for that. I had been in contact with Bill Feagin of Brammo to talk about Autocrossing the car. But he states "The Ariel Atom is not currently SCCA approved. We are just beginning the application process and hope to be approved at some point in the future."(7-27-07) Private email. I dont know if he meant strictly as a Club racer or not. As far as Autocross (Solo), I see no reason it couldnt run DM or EM. Unless there is Roll Bar issues such as materials and thickness or some other safety issue? Of course those classes are for real "production based" cars. Is a "Kit" car that only the factory builds really a production-based car? Bill Feagin """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" We sell complete cars only (prices range between $52,000 and $90,000 with an average of $66,000), but we offer the following two “partially assembled” options. · Self Assembly Kit - Owner installed drivetrain ($500 option) Ariel Atom 2 delivered as a component vehicle, with drivetrain not installed 20-24 man hours of owner assembly. Price reflects drivetrain crating and preparation charges. · Self Assembly Kit ($250 option) Ariel Atom 2 delivered as a component vehicle requiring 8 – 10 man hours of owner assembly. Kit comes with lights, ecu and steering wheel in a separate shipment. """"""""""""""""""""""""""" Upcharge partially assembled??? If you go to the Ariel atom web-site, which is very nice by the way, you can build a car. When I did a few months a go the sn# locked in for me, if I was to place the order that day, was 195. It may have to run in B-Modified as long as the car meet GCR specs? Which if they are running at all these tracks doing their "Atom Experiance" you would think that they would or the tracks would pay hell if there was an accident. As far as approved for autocross. I had thought this would intale a throught exame from tech and your done. ( I may be wrong. Any Tech stewars comments?) I like the atom, I think it is a great car. But the Ecotec motor is not where I would have gone. I would LOVE to have an Atom. But for the money a XR7 made street legal would be the better car and I still would have money left over for the trailer. But while I am here in Fantasy Land or if I win the Big One tonight, lets just go for the Donkervoort D8-RS hard top. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7a/Donkervoort_D8_RS_vr_EMS.jpg If you havent heard of Donkervoort check out the D8 Gt sometime, wonder if it has A/C? http://www.motortrend.com/auto_shows/coverage/geneva/112_2007_geneva_motor_show_part_3/photo_37.html Starting at $90,000 EUR to $130,000 EUR I admit though, I have never seen an Atom other than pictures/videos. Lets see my options.... $400.00 Atom Experiance.... or $400.00 for steel for new locost frame? Tim Tennant Just a mechanic. NOT Rich. -
Yea, I have looked at most of the US manufacturers and just haven't found one that wants to sell me just the frame. Or they want an arm and a leg for it. Here in Michigan we have a chassis sales shop that has 4130 steel for cheap and I can get all the tube steel for the frame for less than $400.00 but I have to take a day off work then drive to the other side of the state, then build the thing. But if I can get an inexpensive chassis and save me a lot of welding them I will but if not I guess I build one. I want a round tube frame, but i the price is right i will settle on getting the car done a lot earlier than I predict now.
-
Looking to cut build time down.... I am looking for a Frame jig that someone may have left over from their build. Or I would like to aquire a frame only if the price is right. Perfer round tube. I have most other parts for vehicle, I am just missing a frame to hold it all together. Looking for item located near or reasonable distance near Detroit. Tim Tennant tnttim@hotmail.com

Someone has way too much time for polishing that thing.
