  1. Best 7 clone? I like HKT or Donkervoort. HKT
  2. A long time ago I think someone was assembling Duttons in Canada and selling them. Most of the 7 clones have motorcycle fenders on front wheels Dutton Phaeton and melos are exceptions. The phaeton front end had a spoiler lip on the bottom, the air flowed over the front end pushing it down, the Lotus wing front fenders caught air and lifted the front end of the car over 70 mph, crazy design. HKT has great aero
  3. It says Lotus on car but in description it says replica. One was for sale on bat.....https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1987-eva-beva-2/ in the comments section it sats Dutton knockoff/copy Dutton for sale in California....
  4. This has Dutton Phaeton front end https://www.kijijiautos.ca/cars/lotus/used/#vip=19793513 description...Auto Replica of lotus 57 very beautiful mechanical model A1 Year made in 1987 4 cylinder engine 5x speeds Mileage 93,913 Registration Paper 2 Roofs: - rigid and flexible Price $ 25,000 negotiable Serious buyer please. A 1 inch tubular kit with fiberglass bodywork 4 cylinder engine (Toyota) 5x speeds . It says Lotus on car but in description it says replica. When you see a Cobra it says Cobra on car but the odds are 99% it is not a real Cobra, it is the most copied car in the world, the 7 is number 2. There is 1000's of 356 speedster replicas running around on the car it says Porsche 356, they are not Porsche or 356, they are a VW air cooled bug pan with a VW aircooled engine and a fiberglass body. (the 356 replicas sell for more usually then the 7 clones) How many 7 replicas have Lotus on them somewhere? I just bought a Dutton Phaeton S2, it has a Lotus badge on the front, i am thinking of removing it. There was cases in Europe where a Lotus replica was sold and licensed as a Lotus 7 but it was a replica. A real Lotus 7 is $70,000?, an older cheap replica is $20,000? An older used Caterham the legal continuation is $30,000?
  5. CO2.........
  6. Dutton at one point was the largest kit car company in the world, they sold 6000 super 7 clone cars, more then anyone except Caterham, (there has been 150 companies that have built super 7 clones/reproductions), partly because of good pricing and they financed, 25% down, balance over 2 tears. Lotus only sold 2500 super 7's, Caterham has sold 13,000. The Cobra is the most copied design in history, the super 7 is number 2. Dutton is the oldest car company in the world with the same original owner, they are still in business, they only manufacture amphibious vehicles now, they are the only profitable amphibious vehicle manufacturer in the world. The Dutton super 7 clone has a steel tube frame, Triumph Spitfire front suspension, Ford Escort rear suspension, used mainly Ford drive trains, the lotus super 7 was built almost the same, the Duttons were over-engineered, they were strong, cheap and fast, good qualities, they are still used in Britain for racing and trialing, sometimes instead of breaking a real Lotus 7, (used lotus 7 $60,000). Someone said Duttons are becoming cult cars. The quickest kit car in the world is a Dutton Phaeton, it has a 434 c.i. Chev small block V8, it ran an 8.90 1/4 mile.
  7. How do you like the 550 spyder compared to the 7?
  8. The government ruined these cars, with all the safety and fuel economy regulations all these cars now look the same and they all weigh more then 3000 lb., horrible things, that is why I went the other way and got a 540 kg Super 7 clone. I don't like the new cars (the T50 might be good), all my cars are old, 1988 924S, 1980 924 turbo, '95 GTI, '98 GTI, 1980 BMW E30 320i m20b20 euro., 1978 Dutton Phaeton S2 Lampredi Super 7 clone.
  9. My number 2 daily driver is a '95 GTI with an Audi 1.8 20vt swap, stage 2, 25 lb boost 240 hp, 1000 kg. fun car, I like VW and VAG products. The Super 7 is more involving, intense, more of a trip, event to drive.
  10. My daily driver is a 1988 Porsche 924S Le Mans. One of 12 in Canada. 250 in Germany, 240 ROW. None in U.S. they got 500 1988 924S SE a track prepared car. The Le Mans was also equipped for the track but had extra equipment not wanted on a track car like AC, power steering, etc., it was called Club Sport in Japan and Spirit in Spain. It is a transaxle car, one of the best handling cars ever made. A transaxle car has the current Nurburgring production car record right now, the Mercedes GTR. The 1952, 1953 F1 championship winner the Ferrari 500 was a transaxle car. The 1952 Ferrari 500 F1 car had very similar spec to the Super 7, 540 kg, 4 cyl. Lampredi 2.0 lt engine 2 Weber 2 barrels, 180 hp. 4 speed transaxle. Eight of the Lotus 7's manufactured in Argentina had Lampredi 4 cyl 2.0 lt. engines. The Dutton Super 7 clone I just bought has a Lampredi 2.0 litre engine. The Lampredi 2.0 4 cyl. engine was used in Fiat, Lancia, Morgan, Lotus, Alfa Romeo. The Lampredi 4 cyl. engine was in more World Rally champion ship winners then any other engine in history. Lampredi designed engines for Ferrari then later worked at Fiat. The Lampredi 4cyl. double overhead cam engine was the first to have a rubber timing belt. A 1953 Ferrari 500 Mondial with the Lampredi 2.0 4 cyl engine sold recently for $5.4 million dollars, the seller bought it 50 years ago for $2500.
  11. I am upgrading to a Carter rotary fuel pump. https://www.racetep.com/manufacturer/carbs-and-injection/weber/electric-fuel-pumps.html
  12. What fuel pump are you using with your webers?
  13. At another forum someone said they want light weight and throttle response, you won't get that with batteries the 7 will be another modern overweight car. Look at the new Lotus coming soon, 2000 hp and 3700 lb, it needs 2000 hp to move. A 7 is very agile, changes direction like nothing else, electric 7's will be overweight, not agile.
