Congrats on the new build. I think you are more than 50% for sure. Some mechanical part took me quite some time to install (e.g. diff cradle) Rich is awesome. He knows every detail of it.

Title and Registration in TX - A Definitive Guide as of 2025
empti replied to hahuang65's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Very comprehensive write up. Congrats on the newly registered cat in TX! -
My 420R currently has R888s, but the front tires saw some notable wear after roughly 1,000 miles (alignment issue) of road use. I’m looking for a more road-friendly tire that still offers good grip. Which model would you recommend and where do you usually source them (local shop, online retailer, or dealer)?

Caterham 420R OE Side Mirrors and Mounts For Sale
empti replied to empti's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
Sold. Thanks! -
I went the aftermarket route and now the OE side mirrors and mounts are for sale. The sale includes the door mounts and windshield mounts. There is a minor imperfection on one mirror. These are the part info from UK parts site: https://caterhamparts.co.uk/mirrors/134-mirror-sidescreen-and-iva-not-handed.html https://caterhamparts.co.uk/mirrors/2977-mirror-mount-kit-for-iva.html All for $80 plus shipping.

@pethierthanks for the advice, this is an option too. Since sport and track suspension uses different collar size, I'd have to source that part too. I am thinking about just getting the whole coilover setup and just swap it in without taking them apart. @MV8 I think I began to get used to the track suspension after 1000 miles so far. I'll take a look at Eibach's website to see if they offers same spring from factory catalog.

I am wondering if there are any Lotus Esprit parts.

SPCNS (Caterham) registration in the SF Bay Area
empti replied to Maggie S.'s topic in General Sevens Discussion
After the CHP visit, I went to Concord DMV and got my CA license plate today. I started this process in July but I think I could have done it within a Month. Appreciate all the help from @KnifeySpoony @Nocturnal005 and @Slonie. I finally have a CA registered 7. -
SPCNS (Caterham) registration in the SF Bay Area

@Maggie S. IMO you'll still need the BAR inspection to get the smog waiver sticker (SB100). Or they may ask for smog checks in future reg renewal. But I just like the DMV you went to. Mine was very strict on CHP inspections. -

Updates 10/3/2025 I wasn't able to get the license plate because the VIN verification has to be done by CHP. DMV just told me to get an appointment with CHP. I need to talk to CHP on 10/9 and come back to DMV one more time. As for the PCV, here is my set up (for BAR the inspection). The hose on the left comes from the top of the catch can, connect to a PCV valve and then another hose to the throttle body. -

That's such a quick turnaround. I had 5 DMV visits and 4 inspections so far, and I don't have a license plate yet. Let's hope it all works out tomorrow. -

BAR Inspection: I just completed the BAR inspection TODAY in Livermore (near Las Positas College). The process was quite smooth, I was asked to provide the MSO, SPCNS Sequence Number(issued by DMV), and DMV fee receipt. Vin Verification: I didn't go to CHP. I called CHP earlier but they redirected me to DMV for VIN verification. I went to DMV instead and they hand wrote me an REG-31 form. -> I need to find out if this method works as i am going to try getting the license plate tomorrow. Safety Inspection: I went to this Spiteri's Complete Auto Service in Belmont. They charged me for the headlight adjustments but passed the safety inspection. I have also tried my local inspection station in Concord but they asked absurd questions. -
I noticed a drip or two on the floor and the drain plug area was wet after recent long drives.
-
Not much but I can see drips of oil once I wipe with a paper towel. I have also noticed some oil behind the tank ( I think the oil drips from the drain plug may be traced back here). The oil level inside the tank seems to be quite far from the top. I am wondering how oil gets out of the cap.
-
I thought my drain plug still leaks but I noticed oil seepage from the sump tank filler cap. Anyone has seen similar situations?

Do you mind sharing the stl & stp file for 3d printing? Thanks!

I used Progressive with agreed value & full coverage/high deductible.

I am wondering, how much louder it is after the decat pipe? I am thinking about it.

The 420R factory mirror is flat, and it's very hard to see any vehicle on the side. I am wondering what type of rearview mirror do you use on a road car (the one with windshield)? Any recommendations? Do you mount it to the door, or on the side of the windshield?

Looking for the 420R Sport Suspension (coilovers) . I currently have "Track Suspension" but I think the spring is a bit too stiff for road use.

Dry sump oil tank drain plug leaking
empti replied to KnifeySpoony's topic in General Sevens Discussion
The leak was very noticeable, I had a stream of oil on my garage floor after parking it overnight. I think the vibration caused the washer to move a bit and that explained why it didn't leak that much during my assembly process. -

Yes, but it's not the right size. -

I ran in to the same problem. The left is the OE bolt & washer, the right (M10x1.25) bolt and washer were from Amazon. Let's hope it resolves the issue. -
Sounds good. Thanks!

Thanks! I'll refit the seat later. I am 5'7" so I can only barely reach the pedals. If the seat can be adjusted more forward I will not try to adjust the pedals.
