The Regular Summary of Classified Ads of Se7ens Found For Sale
MoPho replied to Croc's topic in Cars For Sale
Paying some premium for the ability to register in CA is one thing, but bumping the bidding from $25k to $40k in one go, days before the auction heated up was a bit curious. It's possible with the two guys wanting it so bad the price would have gotten there anyway but that was a bit silly strategy. At that price, I would have sold them my car, which is a lot better spec and has an CA SB100 exemption. Studio lighting hides a lot of cosmetic flaws too. Having dipped my toe in the classic Mini waters fairly recently, I am not so sure the 67 Lotus registration is as valuable as one might think. What I learned with the Minis was that there were a lot of later year models that were dubiously registered as pre 68 to get into CA and while you can get away with it initially, the changing of ownership would sometimes get flagged and cause problems as the inspections made it obvious the car wasn't period (i.e. a 68 Mini didn't have fuel injection, nor does a 67 Lotus 7). The new owner may get lucky or may find they are dealing with the SB100 process anyway > -
Anyone in NorCal with standard body S3 chassis?
MoPho replied to KnifeySpoony's topic in General Sevens Discussion
If you are near Walnut Creek, you're welcome to squeeze into mine, though it has the Tillet seats -
I had a similar symptoms on my car, it was early stages of the fuel pump failing when it would heat up. Check that. .

You either are into the elemental sports car experience or you're not, no amount of car preparation or support is going get someone to change their mind. Sam Smith is someone who gets it, that's why he used to own a Caterham and a Lotus Elan. The wheels could have fallen off and he would have put a positive spin on it .

I thought that was a blog post from Jalopnik (Travis used to work at Jalopnik)…, and I don't believe that was published in the magazine This is the article http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/features/a8707/pure-bloods/ ran both in the magazine and the web. We used Seans car for it. .

Bruce, with all due respect, I've been doing photography for car manufacturers and the car magazines for a good 15 years, I am well aware of the relationship. It was odd to me because last time Road and Track did an article that included a Caterham, they contacted me to shoot the story because they knew I had a 7 and because I was able to find a local owner to provide a car. And this was for a track car comparison test (at Sonoma) where having a supported car would have been much better since they were being run hard all day. I have not seen this story yet, but as noted the story wasn't about Caterhams and it seems the car was more of a prop. It was a lot of work (and cost) to have you haul a car down from Seattle for such a use when there were several local cars that would have easily been suitable for this purpose only a few miles away. Nothing wrong with it, just odd to me in this situation http://yoursmiles.org/msmile/sad/m1516.gif .

Seems odd considering there are several options for 7's right there in Silicon Valley. You're car looks great though! .
-
You shipped your car all the way down from Seattle for the story? .

John Krafcik owns a Caterham as well, though it's been off the road for some time. I used to work with him a lot when he was CEO at Hyundai .

It should also be noted that Trump and his supporters are also wrongly claiming that their First Amendment rights have been violated http://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/708619775153475584?s=17 Between having protesters arrested and claiming he would introduce legislation to make it so he can sue the media for saying bad things about him, sounds like he doesn't much believe in the 1st Amendment . -
That's quite the passive-aggressive post with all the backhanded compliments. I guess you missed the part where he said his dad owned a Caterham and that he loves them. Doesn't sound like he needs a lecture on the virtues of a Seven. And you shouldn't assume you know what his experiences are. As an auto journalist he has likely driven all kinds of crazy things as part of his "every day life", I know I did when I was working with Car and Driver, and I went on some adventures that make a trip in a Caterham seem easy. And lets not forget all the millions of "weirdos" who ride motorcycles and put up with the same kind of discomforts, we are not all that unique except in that we are stupid enough to pay 5+ times more for the experience .

When was the last time you did a 400 mile road trip in yours without the doors or anything on it? Despite having put more than 17k miles on my car, the longest one day drive I've done is 200 miles and that was with an aeroscreen and a helmet on (for the freeway parts). For me, the Caterham is a hit off the crack pipe (especially as mine is set up), it's good for an hour or two buzz but I'm not really that interested in going on long road trips with it. Obviously not everyone is cut out for such elemental sports cars, if they were, Caterham would be selling tens of thousands of cars a year. Most people aren't willing to put up with cars like these. Hillbank should have put the doors on. Car companies go through great pains to make sure everything is perfect and the experience is as controlled as possible before setting journalists off in their cars. A bad review because of something that could easily have been rectified can't be taken back, especially in the digital age. Supplying the doors would have been a real simple thing to do and would have changed the experience for Travis, they should have thought of that. Back when I was working with Car and Driver, one of the writers gave a pretty bad review of a Caterham, I confronted him because I knew he had owned a Caterham and always said how much he loved it. He said Caterham gave him the car (with no top) in January around the frozen potholed roads of lower Michigan, he had to report on the experience without letting his personal bias reflect on the story. Having done something of a road trip in a Westfield 11 (while battling the flu) it is more aerodynamically "comfortable" than a seven with the windshield on. Though that is still a pretty hardy trip To be fair Sean, the aeroscreen makes the car way more comfortable without the buffeting from the windshield. And not to take away from Alakossies adventure, his car is known as the executive 7 with all the "luxury" items. Gert has all kinds stuff added to his car to make the long journeys more comfortable too. I wouldn't mind making that SF-LA trip maybe once in the 7, but doing it all on the highway would completely suck The real people with balls are Al Navarro and his daughter who went from Denver to LA in a vintage 7, also through the hot desert, with the car overheating. He handed the car off to journalist Jaimie Kitman of "Automobile" who drove it from LA to SF while wearing a searsucker suit LOL. I think it broke down on him 4 times. .

What did your friends car look like? .

Unfortunately I can't post my pictures from the event as they are going to be used by Mazda and the media. I did a photoshoot of the new car too, but Japan is putting a hold on them for now. I was pretty bummed because I busted my ass to get the shots done in time for the launch. I didn't get to drive it, but did sit in it.... Want! Car was only driven for the parade on friday and to move it around for the photoshoot. It was one of three cars in existence, so only a few people were allowed to touch it It was amazing to hang out with the original designers/engineers who worked on the project and hear all the stories. Bob Hall is a character Did get to take my Mazda5 out on the track for a couple laps though .
