Just saw this on the Top Gear site. They have created a replica of the Nissan Deltawing from a Westfield and are taking it to display at Arnage this weekend. Looks to be a pretty trick bit of kit. It certainly looks the part, but a discerning eye will see the Seven in front of the cockpit. Hopefully after Le Mans, they'll give the Stig a chance to run it on their track. http://www.topgear.com/uk/photos/top-gear-nissan-deltawing-finished-2012-06-14?imageNo=0

Can you tell this is real? Lotus Seven S3
75TwinCam replied to jqpix's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Did you check for the Arch Motors stamp on the frame? It will be on the top piece of the left hand footwell near the bracket for the clutch and brake pedals. Every frame is stamped by Arch with "AM ## ##"; the first numbers are the year produced (68, 69, or 70 for a genuine Lotus), and the second is the sequence number (where it is in that years production.) This page has some links that might help with identification and inspection. http://7faq.com/owbase/ow.asp -
Nice looking car for a great price, for sure. Not a 72, 73 - those were the last S4's. Not even a 75 or 76, but it is a 1970s vintage chassis. It would take some research with yearly production numbers and where this CS3-4108(?) is in line to pin it down. Or just the Arch number on the pedal brace. The early builder's plates were "Seven Cars", not "Caterham". The dash layout looks later than mine -1975 manufacture. Even if the engine did come with the car - builder's plate doesn't suggest this, the tall block Twinks were later in the production run of Twin-Cam engined cars. Whatever the heritage, this car is gonna make someone real happy for the price.

Ayrton Senna de Silva would have been 52 today. I came across this article last night. I thought it was powerful and speaks highly of the Champion's character - worth the read. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/manish-pandey/ayrton-senna_b_909096.html

Great news, and glad to hear it! Nothing like a healthy dose of Vitamin 7 to perk up a January day!

I have a Montego Blue '96. Drivetrain is stock, with Flyin' Miata stage 2 suspension kit. Skip arranged the purchase for me last spring, and I absolutely love this car. There is a turbo kit somewhere in the future, but there are other more important things first - roll bar, replace the "cute" airhorn with something scary and attention getting.

I'd say the odds are even that I'll be there with the old Twin-Cam. After all, it is free parking at the center of the event!

Black Hills / Bighorn / Yellowstone Tour 2011

Keep the posts coming Randall, it's helping me to keep the mundane real world I had to return to in denial. Glad to hear that it was just the wiring in your car (imagine that - dodgy wiring in a Seven! Even one with no trace of Lucas). Wish I was still along. My best to the group. I'll get some pictures sorted and posted in the other thread in the next couple of days. Cheers! -

BSimon and I have made it home to Colorado. Was a hot, hot drive across Wyoming today. He did try to tell me that he had the windows down and the heater on in his Tahoe, but the puddle from the frozen air conditioning condenser betrayed his story at the rest area north of Wheatland . . . Have fun out there on the rest of the tour! Wish I were still along . . . -

Wrapping up the last night at the hotel in Custer. The old Twin-Cam is ready for the road home to Colorado tomorrow. What a spectacular week this has been! The drives have been only a part of the fun - the comaradarie with new friends has really made this a week to remember! Many thanks to Slomove for organizing the tour, and rzempel & Z3Stalker for daily posts and pics. It's been fantastic to meet and spend so many wonderful miles and smiles with everyone. Cheers! Glad to hear you made it safely. Did you have pie for dinner? Or perhaps a Turtle Puff? (Incriminating photo to follow . . . ?) -

My sister ate dinner there last Thursday night. She said it was good, but pricey. -

I was in Spearfish over the weekend, and thought the group should know about this. I have to head home to Colorado before the tour reaches Spearfish, but you might want to stop here for lunch. It's on the south end of downtown, on the west side of Main Street. -
After searching and searching, and finding that the variety of 13" tires seems to gets small every passing day, I just ordered a set of Falken Ziex 185/60 r 13 from tires-easy.com I found the website via a mention on a Canuk forum that seemed to be focused around Fiats. It looks like it is a closeout site, ans they list how many they have in stock, and none of the numbers are big. They also say to buy it if you see what you're looking for, as their inventory is constantly changing and stock is not guarenteed.

Bumping this thread rather than starting a new one. I'm coming up stonewalled trying to find a 13" tire that isn't going to eat up my entire budget for the car this year. I don't track the car, and the old TwinCam has only 100 or so horses, so I don't really need an R compound. I am not having much luck finding anything else, though. Sumitomo has discontinued the HTR200, which looked like it would fit the bill for my purposes - reasonable performance and reasonable price. The only options I am finding are the Toyo R compounds (eating up all of the available funds) and one tire that fits the affordable qualification from Nankang. ( http://www.onlinetires.com/products/vehicle/tires/nankang/205%252F60-13+nankang+xr611+86h+bsw.html ) Does anyone know anything about this tire? I haven't been able to find reviews anywhere. Three of these for the price of one Toyo is appealing, and also leaves me funds for other areas of the car this summer.

All you guys in your fancy trailers . . . Perhaps I can be in line with your fancy rigs in the simple seven. Maybe you'll have room for a jerry can or two? Gotta admit that I'm thinking the drive across Wyoming has me thinking I'll finally get the Simpson Bandit (white, of course) that I've been eyeing. -

I am giving some serious thought to driving the ol' Twin-Cam up to the Hills along with Skip, Tom and Jeff to meet the tour in Custer. So count me as a tentative! -
I've always thought that a 2wd Subie engine & tranny could make a great basis for a mid-engined single seater - an update on a Formula Vee concept. The independant front suspension would have to be modified to use in the rear, of course. Perhaps some day when I have too much money on my hands I'll have a go at it. This contraption? Eeesh. At least a big bucket of ugly, I don't care how fun it is to drive. I'd have to wear a full face helmet and nondescript driving suit at all times, but that might make the Stig look bad . . .

Hi Mike, glad to see you found your way in! After looking through the pics of your build so far, I have to say your Seven is going to be a work of art. Almost seems a shame to skin over such a beautiful frame! I am looking forward to watching your project move off of the welding table and become a proper Seven! Cheers! Derek -
Had a go at uploading to the YouTube last night. A short shot from experimenting with mounting a camera to record some onboard vid. Got a decent shot of a half-shabby launch--didn't let the car catch up to the engine in first, so it's not the quickest ever. Captured the intake sound of the Dell'orto carbies pretty good though! (I have previewed this post several times, and can't for the life of me figure out why it's putting the video in twice. I've tried pasting the url directly into the message field, and using the "insert link" button, and gotten the same result with both. Maybe someone can help me here?)[/url]

I resized several of the pics to post here. Perhaps my favorite pic of the day--Tom Cranking it to life in anticipation of the second drive! Finally the tag is on the car. What a great time, and a tremendous sampling of cars--from a 1968 Lotus S3 to the brand new 20?? Alaskossie Super-Executive! Rather than convert and upload right now, I'm going to try this, Facebook says it'll work . . . http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=52172&id=1510507106&l=0d2a943502 Great to see the guys I already knew, and meet some new Seven minded folks!
