Some older toyota trucks had a pull 'T' handle coming out of the dash. It would ratchet on the way out, as the brake is applied; then an 1/8th of a turn releases the catch and can slide it back in. '80s 4runners, '90s T100s, and old Willys CJs too.

FOR SALE: I have a 00 Focus Zetec and a 72 pinto Type E 4 speed. The two bolt up but there are some details to address. The transmission would be good start for a Quaiffe Rocket rebuild as a racing transmission a la Taylor Race Engineering http://www.taylor-race.com/framedmap.cfm?drawing=rocketmap&category=Transmissions&subcategory1=Quaife&subcategory2=Quaife%20Parts&subcategory3=Quaife%20Rocket I also broke a 77 Mustang II and have the following parts: spindles, calipers, steering rack and column with steering wheel, B-W SR4 4 speed, drive shaft, and 6-3/4" ford rear axle. (5) 13" Steel Rims from a '77 Capri. $500 takes it all. Located in Appleton, WI 54915. Taylor Race Engineering is located in Texas and they deal with Type 9 gear boxes. I've never dealt with them but I've heard good things. http://www.taylor-race.com/ (If you browse the parts section, look at the Quaife Sierra sections)

Low oil pressure does not necessarily mean a low oil flow rate. It just means low resistance in the system. Did the engine builder do anything to any of the oil passages or openings? (I'm just playing devils advocate; I'd be concerned too.)

I have a nifty excel file for determining how tire size, transmission ratios, final drive ratio, and rpms affect vehicle speed. I'll gladly offer it up since I didn't create the file but I did, IMHO, modify it to work better. Since I can't attach an .xls file, I changed the file suffix to .pdf Just rename the file with .xls at the end and it should work fine. gearing.pdf

Well, from what I've heard/read most new engines (at least automotive) are designed to take E10 fuels and that E10 would be the maximum over the year as the blend will change during the seasons. Ethanol is not "bad" for engines but rather can damage certain types of materials which were previously often used in engines/fuel systems. Personally, I think ethanol is getting an unfair bad rep, and flex fuel engines that are naturally aspirated are just hurting it even more. A N/A engine that can run from E0 to E85 cannot run very efficiently on either E85 or straight gasoline. But a turbo engine with a well groomed ECU would be quite efficient at both and would, I think, turn peoples E85 thoughts from hurting engines to being a high performance fuel. (High performance either in mileage or power). Your Mileage May Vary. (I havent looked into small engine but I do admit to buying 91 octane without ethanol just to be safe. Kwik Trip even advertises it as no ethanol and being for small engines) -Ross

Can't you just swap the water pumps? Check zetecinside.com Edit: Try theses guys: http://qsraceengines.com/ Quicksilver RacEngines. They might have a solution

I just thought it makes a great desktop picture. -

It looks like a gear box from a Ford Anglia 1200, at least without the shifter extension. Look up the ford anglia 105E uk owners club's website and look at the technical articles for trans swap.

I found a zetec locally off of http://www.car-parts.com for $250. Should be able to source a duratec or any other part from most cars, too.

NEEDED!! starter for my 1600 x-flow.
RossD replied to southwind25's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
What about just buying a normal '72 1600 Pinto starter? Rock Auto has some around $60 and a bunch of different parts to rebuild them. http://www.rockauto.com I've used them for a bunch of parts for my '77 capri and am generally happy with their service; I'm not affiliated with them. -
Thanks Again! It was awesome.

Have a safe trip.

If your offer still stands, I'm still very interested in checking out your car. Any idea when you'd be available? Or I can PM you my phone number and you can call when you're here and have some free time?

Anyone else think its odd that the original car Chapman started playing with was the Austin 7 and Chapman's own design didn hit it's stride (at least with the public) until his 7th version of it?

Blacktop Zetec gearbox options and other info required.
RossD replied to KiwiBirkin's topic in General Tech
I have a Ford Type E transmission (aka Rocket) and bellhousing which is the 4 speed version of the Type 9. (I believe its from a '72 2.0L Pinto.) So the bellhousing to transmission pattern should match the Type 9. The bellhousing to block pattern fits 5 out of 6 holes on the Zetec. The one that is missing is where the starter is on the Focus. The dowels are too small on the zetec for the bellhousing but that can be fixed easily. The oil pan on the zetec is in the way of the starter and I plan on getting a different one from a junk yard CVH escort, or just trim up the cast aluminum part to make do. My problem is trying to figure out which flywheel/clutch/starter combo will fit inside the bellhousing. I haven't tried a focus setup yet since my zetec came from an automatic, but I did mock up a '77 Mustang II's 2.3L setup and the flywheel seemed to deep for the bellhousing. This is where I'm at for collecting parts for my Locost project. -Ross
