  1. I found this device that ties into your OBD plug and supplies a ton of info (water temp, throttle position, inlet air temp and many others). The nice part is that it uses the existing sensors to monitor the status of the drivetrain. The website is: http://www.scangauge.com/products/ It looks like a well made product and I am considering getting one. Question is: Has anyone out there had any first hand experience with this product or something similar to this? Is there something out there better that this for 170 bucks?
  2. My check was put in the drop-box on Sunday afternoon but seeing as today is Veterans day it should still be sitting in the box. You should have my check in hand before Friday I hope, just trust that I didn't hose you and that you put me on the list. Thanks. Mike
  3. I know that I am cutting it close but please put me down for one (1) mens watch. I will put my check in the mail this evening, thanks.
  4. Same for me, just so long as there is no salt on the roads. Once the salt hits it is jack-stand time for me too. With the full weather gear and a heater it is very comfortable to drive no matter what the outside temperature. I tend to be in the minority that I use my top maybe nearly fifty percent of the time (most are proud to say that they never use it though). With the potential (eventual) electrolisis issues between the aluminum and steel I have no desire to speed the corrosion process by dipping the car in salt water for five months a year. Besides, a full tear down once a year in the name of preventative maintenence is not a bad idea on a car of this type.
  5. www.wirewheel.com has a nice S4 for your viewing (and potential) driving pleasure. Click on the "new inventory" section for some photos.
  6. They look fantastic but wonder what type of cap is used to compliment the look. The photo of the cover in the bay doesn't show any cap at all (How do you fill it without one?).
  7. That is Craig Chima and that car is sold. He has since bought yet another one with about double the horsepower (he said it is churning out 280HP). As we discussed briefly. LOG is the Lotus Owners Gathering, put on each year by Lotus Limited (the largest national Lotus club here in the US). ReMarque is the name of our national club magazine, that is the publication in question.
  8. MegaSquirt makes a very cost effective universal managment system. You can either build it yourself or buy their kit. I have absolutely no personal experience with this system but it seems to be a favorite of many people at Grassroots Motorsports magazine. I think the built kit is only a few hundred dollars and you can download a baseline program for your engine of choice.
  9. Wirewheel.com just got another early one in. That car has been on my list for a few years now also. Westfield is making them again. Unfortunately, I suffer from the too many cars, too little money problem.
  10. Nope, I didn't mention it actually. We talked for quite a while but I think that I may have only scratched the surface of what I could decribe about the experience of living with one. His other option of a Ginetta G4 with a similar powerplant and driveline interests me too, a very shapely car of perfect preportions. I found a really slick picture of one that showed it being dwarfed by an Elan! No matter which direction they ultimately choose to go in they will have a fantastic machine.
  11. It was fun for us too you know. It was nice to meet some like-minded enthusiastic people such as you and Mary. We would of course like to think that you would run right out and get one of your own but we are happy to have been able to at least give you some information to make the decision that is right for you. Either way, once you do get your garage space filled we will need to get together and find some fun back-roads. Mike
  12. Hi Robert and Mary and welcome to the group. I live about an hour from you in Mentor and would be glad to meet with you sometime and let you do some taste-testing. My wife and I have a 2001 Caterham which is nearly stock (Zetec engine and the DeDion rear end). I use it as my only car when the salt is off of the roads. While I am not looking to ever sell it I may be able to help you track one down should you find that it is what you are looking for. Shoot me an e-mail at president@calotus.com and we can arrange a get together. Mike & Jen Rohaley
  13. Is anyone going? We will be leaving tomorrow (Wednesday) and will be camping at the track this weekend. If you are, stop by our tent (the canvas green/yellow jobby just past the bus-stop chicane) and say hi. Mike and Jen
  14. Very nice article, I now feel a bit more in touch with my spiritual center........aaaaahhhhhhhuuuuuummmmmmmmm.
  15. I am the Yellow/alloy Caterham with license DB11VJ in the back row (top off). Mike Rohaley
  16. 2 3/4" clearance to my sump guard. However, my exhaust where it wraps around the rear wheel is the only spot that will bottom out over bumps.
  17. Is it only my car or does yours make it's own music too. By that I mean that there is a very distinct whistle from the passenger side clamshell area at speeds between 35 and 45 mph. It is purely aerodynamically sourced and you can whistle along with it (it keeps me entertained after I get sick of listening to myself think).
  18. In reference to post #3 by Al: No, I bought it with 800 miles on it. I regards to seat time, Jen and I have done 12+ hours straight from Birmingham Alabama to Cleveland with no issues beyond just being tired of driving in general. Our drive from 7-7-07 was just a bit over 9 hours which went quick enough but boy was it boring. I may never understand how truck drivers can handle the monotony of highway driving day after day.
  19. I am just a bit over 33,000 miles on our 2001 (would be closer to 40K if I didn't bust myself up a couple summers ago which kept me out of the drivers seat all summer). Is anyone over 50,000 or the magic 100,000 without fused vertibrea to show for it?
  20. X3 on the compliments to Al, Mazda and all the rest that made the weekend happen. We have been on many car based trips and for both Jen and I, this was THE most fun that we had. Now that I am back here at work I wish that I made some more runs up and down the Dragon, this will become an annual pigrimage for us I suppose. There was so much to do that we never got remotely close to bored, my biggest issue was forcing myself to call it a night and get some sleep to recharge my batteries for the next days activities. Everyone involved did such a great job that the only downside is that the next organizers have quite a job ahead of them if they plan to eclipse what was done here. Thanks again. P.S.: We love the JPE, a huge thanks goes out to Bill for doing a great job on the model. It will sit with pride in our living room for many years to come.
  21. My wife prefers the doors on for most of our driving no matter what the temperature. The abuse from the wind is brutal for some reason on the passenger side compared to the drivers side (I think the exhaust running down the driver side somehow directs the air differently which takes the sting out of driving with the doors off). Bottom line is the doors make a big difference in comfort, I don't leave home without them.
  22. Since the Caterham driver was crossing the center line frequently through corners it is safe to say that he was "trying" to drive fast. However, it just appears that he may not be a great driver. Put my grammy in a Ferrari F40 and she will not become Mario Andretti.
  23. I second Rocky Mountain Sports Cars. They (Jon) developed the Zetec Caterham and seem to have the answers to anything I come up with.
  24. Sparco sells inserts that can be used, try this link: http://www.sparcousa.com/pseats_acc.asp?id=485
