scannon
Audi poised to ditch endurance racing and touring cars in favour of assault on F1 from 2016 The pre-war German domination of Formula One could soon be reborn, with Audi rumoured to be readying itself for a 2016 return to Grand Prix racing. Insiders at Audi and its parent, the Volkswagen Group, have revealed that Audi is set to abandon both Germany’s touring car championship (the DTM) and the iconic Le Mans 24 Hour race in favour of the world’s top open-wheel formula. Insiders say it will combine its WEC and DTM budgets, plus a Red Bull sponsorship package to try to make its mark again on Grand Prix racing, an arena it hasn’t entered since the advent of the modern Formula One championship in 1950. Multiple sources have also confirmed that Audi will bow to internal Volkswagen Group pressure and leave the Le Mans and World Endurance Championship to its sister brand, Porsche. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/audi/89171/audi-to-join-f1-in-2016
randychase
They could probably pick up a complete team right now rather on the cheap.
bigdog
That would be good news. While I'm not a fan of Audi cars (R8 is great though) It would be good to see things shaken up a bit by new blood from Audi & Honda. I imagine that if the 4 cylinder formula had been adopted as planed. Then we would have possibly seen BMW back in the game.
James A
Buy a team and get Alonso and Ross Brawn! Or save money and just burn $100MM and say you raced in F1.
Boxologist
I'm just lost as to what it will accomplish. Audi is successful in other series but will give that up to start on the F1 learning curve.

Hey Jon, I agree with you, but having that title of " World Champion" must mean a lot when it comes to global car sales. If you look at Caterham's 0 points in 4 years, you see it's a hard road ahead.... Wish them well if it really happens.
