PRICE REDUCED - $30,000.

I have owned this car (belovedly known as the "School Bus") for almost 8 years. I am the second owner. The car was built by Rocky Mountain Sportcars for a well heeled enthusiast in Portland, OR. I purchased it from an exotic dealer in Portland and have used it purely as a track weapon. I have a clean title but never registered it for the road. This car is a go-cart on steroids and certainly represents the most fun you can have with your clothes on. The car was built with aluminum bucket seats, a fire suppression system, no hand brake, and a front laminar lip rather than a windshield. It has a detachable racing Momo steering wheel, 5 point harnesses, and an AMB transponder for timing laps. Tons of CF including the dash. Safety cut-off switch and Odyssey battery.

The motor is a 2.0 Zetec putting out approx. 220 bhp. with JE hi comp pistons, Kent rally cams, aluminum race sump, TWM throttle bodies, TEC-II ecu with integral coil packs, light flywheel and heavy duty 9" clutch. The motor was rebuilt in early 2009 to the tune of $10,000 (I have the receipts). The gearbox is a 5 speed Sierra. DeDion with LSD. I'm 6'4" and didn't want my head to be the rollbar. I had a higher rollbar and side protection bars fabricated, powder coated, and padded. This car is a well know fixture at Motorsports Ranch here in Fort Worth, Tx. I have taken to it COTA (F1 track in Austin) twice and had a blast torturing Porsches, Vette's, Ford GT's, and other high HP cars. It comes with brand new sticker Hoosier slicks. This car is reliable, lightweight (1180 lbs with a full fuel load), and certainly cheaper to track than most sports cars. It is ideal for track days and autoX. I have all records and receipts back to new.

The only "issues" with the car are nonfunctional turn signals (? bad relay or switch...never bothered with it since its a track car) and a worn speedo "quill" off the tranny which has rendered the speedo and ODO inop. There is one small dent in the rear of the car where I bumped it in the garage with my spec Miata by mistake. The motor has 30 hrs since rebuild (I have maintained a logbook). Fluids have been changed religiously and no expense spared on maintainance. This is a weapons grade track machine. Corners on rails and very predictable.

Will be happy to forward more info or answer questions.

Several inquiries on the Caterham. The main question is whether the car can be registered for the street. When I bought the car 8 years ago it was registered for the road in Oregon. It is a kit car and I have receipts that show the chassis priced separately from the drivetrain. As such, it is my understanding that it could be registered as a 1962 Lotus 7, just as a replica Cobra can be registered as a 1965. Obviously the car would need street tires rather than slicks, maybe a better windshield, and getting the turn signals to work.

Price reduced to $30,000. This is turning into a reverse auction :)

Wow, what a fantastic car! I'm sure it will go quickly.... the "reverse auction" price is extremely reasonable for the build.

Can I suggest you also change the heading? The price reduction is only showing in the text and not the heading which means lots of people will never see it since they scan the headline only.

Do you have the original windscreen for the car?

if so, might I humbly suggest that you install it, take a picture, so those potential buyers who want to drive it on the street can envision themselves behind the wheel/full windshield.

Might appeal to a wider buyer pool if shown that way.

I can't edit the title of this thread. I think a mod has to do that.

The car was built with a laminar lip. There is no other windshield with it. It was spec'd as a track car primarily.

Easy enough for a potential buyer to add a full-size Caterham, windshield, if desired. I think the one I bought was about $600.00. Car mite already have the windshield mounting holes pre-drilled. Any necessary mounting hardware can also be ordered from Caterham parts.

So turn signals and windscreen are the only things keeping it form being road legal ready?

Pretty much so. The car has rear turn signal indicators. There are no indicator lights on the front of the car. It was configured this way. Front turn light requirements may vary state to state. It is a kit car and can be registered as such. When I got it, it had Oregon plates and was configured exactly as it is now.

Do yourself a big favor and find out your state’s registration requirements if you are thinking of road use. A search of this site will show they vary greatly!

Yep I realize that road registration may be non-trivial. I'm in Texas, and I've been horrified by what the Ariel Atom guys have been going through:

Now with the 7 family (even locosts?), I *think* the situation is better, because it can be registered as a historical replica, of a once road car. I'm not yet at a point where I can have a pure track toy - so any vehicle I own has to be able to be driven on the street.

Hmm, haven't been to MSR in a while...
