xcarguy
Well, Sunday, Feb 28th was the one-year anniversary of my accident at Texas World Speedway (TWS) in College Station, TX. I celebrated by returning to TWS on Saturday (Feb 27th) as a guest of, and a guest speaker for, The Driver’s Edge HPDE that was being held on the 27th and 28th. I was invited to speak to both the instructor and driver groups. Afterward, I hung out for the day and enjoyed spirited rides with both instructors and advanced drivers for a total of three sessions. My first outing was with the instructor group in a track prepped Miata; I have a new-found respect for these little cars, especially when paired with talent. My next outing was in a C5 Vette that was also prepped for the track and who’s driver was as equally talented. Both car and driver were impressive. The last outing of the day was in a Viper (again, prepped for track-only use). While the Viper reigned supreme in the power department, my favorite ride was in the slowest (straight-line performance wise, that is) of the three cars…the Miata. The little Miata, with its near stock power plant (headers, cold air and tune only) rocked in coming the closest to mimicking a 7 in braking and cornering. By the end of the day, I’d had three fun-filled sessions of uneventful laps at the track that had tried to kill me a year earlier. I even finished up the day with a couple of mild off-track excursions, something I desperately needed to help overcome my well-earned fears (no, nothing airborne :jester:). While I did not get to drive, it was great therapy to get back on the horse, so to speak, even if I did have let someone else hold the reins. Until my car is back together . . . .
Croc
Has TWS fixed the track where you thwacked your Stalker which then led on to the subsequent part break and grassy excursion?
mrmustang
Great post, glad to see you are back in the saddle (so to speak). Did they allow you a moment of silence at the site of your Stalkers demise, maybe a memorial to be built using an old Desoto hubcap . Bill S. PS: Look on BAT this morning, there is a really nice, well built, street/track prepped Laguna Blue miata ending today.
xcarguy
Mike, The nasty hole still lurks. I think I could actually hear it snarl at me each time we drove by. However, I did learn that track ownership has ceased running the track clockwise because of additional accidents; one such accident being that of a car losing control and striking the wall coming out of turn one for the long straight. The crash apparently resulted (this, I was told) in a 45 minute removal time of the driver from the car and his being airlifted out afterward. Sorry, no follow-up/verification info. Bill, We convoyed silently to the accident site (headlights on) where we stood in a circle, tossed old driving wrist bands on the dirt and paid homage to the gods of speed. :jester:

Croc
No, I think they had a gratuitous sacrifice of rubber to appease me. :jester:
