Brake Pad Choice - Low HP Westfield

With not power assist, I feel like I have to press too hard on the brakes for the Westfield I just purchased. Maybe age has done something to the pads or the rotor surface, I am not sure. I think I have 1992 Miata calipers, but I'm not 100% as it's in the shop and not with me at home.

 

I know I won't put much heat in the pads given the low weight and my low HP.

 

What are guys choosing for street and HPDE use with low to moderate HP 7's? :bigear:

 

I've used EBC Red Stuff before on an '06 Jetta GLI with ~280 HP and they worked GREAT. I just don't want to be outside of a brake pad's working temperature on the street and for the majority of a 25 min HPDE run and don't know the best choice.

Dan, on my Caterham, brake pedal feel is very firm. I have the AP 4 Pot front calipers and I upgraded to race Master cylinder when my original standard one went bad, at the recommendation of the then Caterham importer. Pedal travel is minimal and very firm. No need for a boost assist. BTW, my front pads still had plenty of material left on them after 8 years of autoxing, and 5 seasons of trackdays. In the 15 years I've owned and driven the car, I'm still on the original rear pads and rotors. Only changed the fronts and really didn't need to change them. As my racing mechanic is prone to say, " Brakes only slow you down on the track anyway" :jester: Sorry I can't provide any insight into pads, I just use the standard Caterham recommended stuff for the fronts and rears. The fronts are Mintex 1144's rear are the standard single caliper blue dot pads that caterham recommends to use with the 4 pot fronts. There are only two hard breaking points on Lightning at NJMP. so you won't be using them much anyway. Tom

My Miata powered Westfield has no booster, per the plans. The pedal force needed is greater than my Miata, but not by much. When I built the car, I got new pads from Flyin' Miata and they work fine.

Change the bore size of your master cylinder

Smaller, to increase the PSI to the calipers.
