Black Hole
I have been lurking on this forum for a while and now I am ready to move forward with a 7 purchase. I am still confused about the requirements (and challenges!) of registering a car in CT. I am looking at cars that are used and titled for the year they were built (1999 or 2000). The CT registration site says if it is titled and registered "only a courtesy inspection" is required. Does anyone know what this means? I have seen various cars, including a zetec with fuel injection and catalyst and the traditional dual carb crossflow. Will the zetec be easier to register, will CT care or will they not like any of these cars. I tried to contact the CT DMV, but I have not received a response. It is frustrating that I can't even figure out what cars would reasonably pass registration and which cars would have no go. Another suggestion was a Montana LLC. Anyone have any experience with that? Thanks in advance, with any luck I will be a 7 owner soon. Jay
bigdog
You my friend have just found one of the big deterrents to street registered 7 ownership in the USA. ANY car that is newer than 25 years old will generally have to have been "flown under the radar" to get it registered. Of course flying so low means one is close to hitting the trees. Perhaps you need to look at importing an older one from the UK as those are DOT/EPA exempt and a breeze to register. Even figuring in the cost of shipping the UK prices for 7's are rather cheap compared with the inflated US prices. I brought mine home from Europe and it was older than 25 years. It was a very simple process due to the exemption status.

Croc
Hi Jay - Welcome to the forum. I would have a chat with Paul (Wemtd) as he is in Connecticut and can give you the scoop. I also know an off forum contact with a Stalker if needed. I would also look at the SEMA website here. Lots of resources about titling and registration in all states. http://www.semasan.com/page.asp?content=titling&g=semaga Cheers mike
Black Hole
Thanks for all your input. Birddog - I have considered the option you proposed or even going for an original Lotus. A real Lotus sounds romantic and is as pure as you can get, but for I will probably going for as late as possible as I appreciate the power and reliability. Still, we are now talking 1991 cars so a x-flow 7 could definitely be a consideration. wetted - thanks, I will PM you my info Mike - thanks, I took a quick look and it appears it aggregates the info that is found on the CT DMV website. Good info, but some issues, such as a used car, are vague. I am trying to talk to the DMV to find out. I will review the SEMA info further to see if it can answer my questions Jay
sevenup
In Ohio, if you are buying a car from out of state, you must take the car to the DMV, or one of the many local authorized inspection stations (usually a car dealership). This process is very easy and really consist of simply making sure that the VIN tag on the vehicle matches the VIN on the title. That's it! You then take the VIN authorization slip to the title bureau and get your title.
