KOnahic
I'm in the process of buying a set of Panasport wheels for my '82 Seven. The car came with 16" wheels and I'm not sure if the offset is correct. Does anyone happen to know what amount of offset I should be looking for when buying new wheels? Many thanks, Kurt
jimrankin
It totally depends on the car and wheel width size. Hold a straight edge vertically across the face of the hub where the wheel will mount. Take a ruler and mark the width of your intended rim on it. Move the ruler over the vertical line till you have clearance between the end and the "inner" point of contact and see if your still inside your outer fender limit at the width mark also. If you have room for that size rim just measure the difference from the vertical line and the "center" of your width marked on the ruler and that will translate to the offset once you convert to MM. Good way to see what you can buy that will fit before you pay for it LOL.
MichaelD
This is the site that really explains backspace and wheel fitment nicely. Hope this helps. http://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html#backspace
MudHut
this fitment calculator is pretty simple, but gets the idea across. http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=225&aspect=45&diameter=17&wheelwidth=8&offset=40&width2=245&aspect2=40&diameter2=17&wheelwidth2=9.5&offset2=30&Submit=Submit
craig chima
Kurt, Not sure if you are going to stick with 16" wheels or go with a different size but as an FYI you might consider VTO wheels instead of Panasports, and likely save yourself at least $150-$200 for the set. I am a VTO distributor and have used them on all my "7" street cars and race cars for 10+ years without any issues and they are equal to Panasports in every respect in my estimation (I've raced for 35+ years and had numerous sets of Panasport race wheels and street wheels). Here is a link to a 15" VTO wheel and as you can see the look is almost identical to a Panasport or Minilite. If you let me know the actual size and backspace (distance from hub face to inner wheel lip) you are looking for I will be happy to get you pricing for exactly what you need. MudHut
I would love to find something that looks like a Panasport in a 17" wheel. 5x100 @ 17x8 and 17x9 would be a great size with varying offsets.
craig chima
If you are asking about VTO wheels, 16 x 8 is the largest wheel they manufacture in the "Classic 8" spoke version. Craig
sevenup
http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=12244&stc=1I put zero offset 15" VTOs on my Stalker a few years ago (thanks to Hap and Barry). With respect, I must say I was disappointed with the weight of these wheels...they weighed 1.5 lbs more than the Camaro star wheels that were previously on the car. I would image that if you purchased a +22 vto wheel instead of the zero offset the weight would be reduced. The way vto achieves the zero offset is to add a large amount of metal to the back of the hub as opposed to slanting the spokes inward. Now having dumped this negative comment I will say that the wheels work perfectly fine on the Stalker with no adverse handling and they look amazing. Full disclosure, I am not a racer and just an old guy who drives country roads. Edited February 16, 2017 by sevenup
KOnahic
All, Many thanks for all of your help & advice. I'm sorry my posting was a little vague. My plan was to switch to either 14 or 15's depending on which has the most easily accessible tires. So many options... When I bought my 7, it had 16 x 7's on it with 215/45/16's. My cross flow was have a hard time with that much tire, hence the change. I will post a picture when its all said and done. Thank you all once again, Kurt
coffee break
I understand 14's have limited options compared to 13's and 15's
