John B Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 I'd like to try Brooklands screens on my SV and ordered a set from Caterham. The problem is Caterham does not seem to have a stanchion available to mount the screens on. Before I go down the self-fab route, does anyone here have any good ideas? Also, what about mirrors?
yellowss7 Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 (edited) John, a simple solution for the mirrors is to use a piece of angle aluminum and use the existing screen bolts to attach it. Drill a hole in the horizontal side and attach a long stemmed motorcycle mirror that will allow you to see over the rear wing. I'll attach a photo if you need one. For the center mirror I used a Spa one, I also extended the base so that I could see past it to my right wing. Tom Edited February 24, 2018 by yellowss7
scannon Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 For my SV I ordered the standard width mount from Caterham and had a 4" extension welded into the middle. After polishing you had to look close to see it was modified.
John B Posted February 25, 2018 Author Posted February 25, 2018 Thanks guys, good ideas. I think I’ll do the same. How do you find driving with the Brooklands screens? More buffeting? Do you need goggles?
scannon Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 Although some passengers disagreed I found much less buffeting with the Brooklands. Eye protection is a must. These work glasses saved my eye, the bug came in between the Brookland screens at about 40 mph. I got some on my cheek but none in my eye and I always wore goggles after that.
xcarguy Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 (edited) . . . I found much less buffeting with the Brooklands . . . Eye protection is a must. Skip, you our beat me to the punch. Agree strongly on both points; less buffeting and eye protection a must. I too use safety glasses for the road. :iagree::iagree: However, now that I’m running the carbon fiber windscreen, I’ve switched to goggles. My son’s hair tells the tale after a spirited jaunt. :troll: Edited February 26, 2018 by xcarguy
