WestTexasS2K
I thought it would be interesting to see what other monster creations the guys on the site have built. I will post some of my latest projects from the past few years. 76 datsun 280Z http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/739433688_DSC00124.JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforu

m/upload/380722989_DSC00118.JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1711740663_DSC00095.JPG This is a few pics I have of a truck we did for a 16 yo kid with cancer. It was a kind of hometown Overhaulin. The truck was donated by my nephew it was a 90 Chevy SWB with 230k miles. I dont have any good photos with my digital camera but you get the jist. Some of the guys from the Ultralite group donated to the build. slngsht
I don't have any pics of it, but years ago, I retrofitted a GM 3400 out of a camaro into a Russian UAZ military jeep. had to make bellhousing adaptor, motor mounts, etc... did it from start to finish in two weeks and had the running car at the New York auto show at the end of the two weeks. Keith
Let's see... I dragged a 1967 Land Rover out of a barn, got it back on the road for the first time in a decade or more, drove it 2000 miles to Colorado, replaced the frame and built a new wiring harness from scratch and then proceeded to wheel it all over Colorado and Utah. http://keith.miata.net/landy http://keith.miata.net/postcards/engineer_up/images/Dscn1068.jpg Then I built a race car. 350 hp or so, functional aero, 2000 lbs wet. http://flyinmiata.com/projects/OTC/03/race_day2/DSCN9321.jpg A 1966 Cadillac that was stripped, repainted, polished and reassembled. http://keith.miata.net/caddy http://keith.miata.net/caddy/images/DSCN9801.jpg Then some sort of little Lotus thing, followed by a Westfield. And a classic Mini came to live with me at the same time, but it's not exactly at major project status. The current project is a Miata that will run the Targa Newfoundland. I'm combining the best parts of 18 years of Miata production for it and learning to spray paint in my garage. The car was stripped to a bare shell and it started from there. Of course, I'm not just painting it white, it's getting a full Martini paint job. This picture was taken this afternoon. http://www.targamiata.com http://targamiata.com/images_lrg/IMG_7693.jpg Of course, my day job is the sort where we do projects all the time. SR27.Seth
First image is my current project for myself- Ford Sierra (actually an XR4ti changed to sierra specs) Rally car, still in the strip and seam weld stages Second image is a 240sx race car with a rwd VQ30 motor, first of it's kind in Canada. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/666275558_PICT8012.JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/719343312_PICT7907.JPG
Keith
Kieth- That first 'miata' looks pretty awesome- let's hear more about that one! It's in our trailer waiting for a new engine after another mechanic left out a few parts. Here's the site for the car: http://www.flyinmiata.com/projects/dog.asp Basically, it's a Miata engine bored and stroked to 1996cc with a T3/T4 turbo strapped to the side. Of course, now we make the same horsepower in street cars with better spoolup and lower octane requirements, but that's progress The car runs Advance Design shocks and a whole raft of custom bits like the extraction hood, vented rear window, wing (mounted to the frame, not the trunklid), dash, cage, water injection, oil coolers, etc, etc.
JohnCh
The only other car I’ve owned that would qualify as a project was my ’69 Alfa Romeo GTV. Other than the Panasports, I never really touched the exterior, but did freshen up the interior and completely rebuilt all the mechanicals with an eye towards track days. The engine was a 2.0L with twin 45DCOEs, Electromotive distributorless ignition, lots of headwork, etc. Very fun car, but after I bought the Westfield I stopped driving her ( http://home.comcast.net/~cobar/images/alfa.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~cobar/images/sparco.jpg -John

EburgE
I tried to build a rowboat using plans from the Internet. Me and fibreglass work did not get along. :banghead:
WestTexasS2K
Been out of town for family reunion so havent had time to check the post. I figured Keith would have a few intresting projects on his resume. I really like the black miata it look like a real terror. I have to agree again with Keith I really love the old Alfa's I do not know much about their mechanicals but I always liked the looks of them. By the way Keith I painted the Z in a barn so garage jobs can come out nice but they usually need a good wet sand and polish to get the dirt and bugs out. Keith
That white car is the final result of my garage painting. No bugs or dirt, but I'll need to sand the stripes down a bit to get rid of the steps. Here's what it looked like yesterday. http://targamiata.com/images_lrg/IMG_7734.jpg Of course, it's more than just a cool paint job. I built an 11:1 bored and stroked Miata motor, and I'm aiming for about 200 hp at the rear wheels out of it. The power/weight isn't going to be all that far off my Seven and it'll be built to go fast on battered Newfoundland roads. I've cherry-picked the best Miata parts out of 18 years of production, from a 1990 dashboard to a 2005 front subframe. It's pretty fun already, the first track day is on Friday. scannon
Keith, Do you have sponsorship money from Martini? Just curious why you are flying their colors and name. Are you bringing the 7 to the track on Friday as well?
Keith
No money, no. I figured that since the car is going to a historic rally, it would be fun to show up with a historic paint job. Other than the hideous argyle orange and green from the 1992 Le Mans Mazda, there isn't much of a Mazda racing livery. The rally GTXs were fairly undistinguished. So, what else is there? Gulf never rallied and it's been done to death anyhow. I've always been an Integrale fan, so Martini it is. Hey, it gets more attention for the car (and thus the other sponsors) so mission accomplished. The car was singled out on the Targa forum because it looks good, and that's the sort of attention we want. I'll have both cars at the track on Friday. Gotta defend my record! I might be able to do it, but it's going to be tough this year between your over-muscled Cat and Bill's faster and faster Westfield.

That is definately not a horsepower track and your car is far more dialed in than mine. At the last track event it was still slower than my Miata was. I think it is mostly the driver not yet being attuned to the car.:ack:
drew...
Last winters project was new suspension, new interior, sand and polish and overall clean-up of my brother's 72 MGB. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/287376881_PICT0008.jpg http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/353835511_PICT0003.jpg http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/753132616_PICT0004.jpg
Davemk1
I've had a few over the past few years. I'm down to a single toy car now with my Birkin. I previously owned and restored this 1966 Lotus Cortina. A wonderful car and a cool slice of history. While owning this I got into autocross and didn't want to risk damaging the Cortina so I bought this 1976 Mazda RX3. It was in a farmers field sunk up to the hubs in the dirt with something wrong with the clutch. It turned out that it was a small spring that holds the clutch fork to the throw out bearing had come unclipped. Stuck it back on and it was good to go. Fully stripped it was pretty darn light and quick. I sold it to a local friend who is still racing it and doing well. Both of these are gone now and I miss them. Arya Ebrahimi
First: http://filebox.vt.edu/users/arebrahi/Publicly%20accessable%20files/Jeep%20pictures/DSC02251.JPG 2001 Jeep Cherokee It was acquired stock w/ 6 miles on it and built up over 3.5 years. Mods included complete custom suspension, axle swaps, armor, etc. Sold it to pay for school. Second: http://filebox.vt.edu/users/arebrahi/Publicly%20accessable%20files/Toyota%20buildup/2-11-07f%20002.jpg 1985 Toyota Pickup Acquired as a basket case truck for $700. I R&Red the entire rear half of the frame, changed the front suspension from IFS to solid axle. Redid the rear suspension with 1/2 ton Chevy springs, built the tube bed for it, R&Red the headgasket/timing chain, etc. I have finally gotten it on the road and hopefully will have it off the road in a few weeks. Third: http://filebox.vt.edu/users/arebrahi/F-Toy%20006.jpg This is a 1987 Toyota 4runner chassis with a custom fabricated tube chassis that will be mounted on top. This is another rockcrawler build. The tube chassis/toyota drivetrain/frame is designed to compete in a spec class of rockcrawling called Formula Toy. I hope to get started on this project in the next few months, but in the mean time I am still acquireing parts. Here is an example of a completed car: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/mobil1syn/werock-donner-07/IMG_1076.jpg After the F-toy is completed I am thinking of building a locost or ratrod. Can you tell I like building??

It looks exactly like one we were bidding on and were 'Snipered' away from at the last second of the auction. I think it was out in Montana. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/2028647937__2039.jpghttp://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1696887103_Camera_1962.jpg
Davemk1
I suppose it could be. I think it was sold not last fall but the fall before. Late October maybe. I do think that the guy who got it did so in the last 10 seconds or so. Were you in the bidding? Dave
