Different brake pedals available for '03 SV?

Been enjoying driving the '03 SV and nearly have 1000mi on the rebuilt engine, but the brake pedal is bugging me!

The pedal currently in the car is bent to the left and the distance from the brake pedal to the accelerator is too great to comfortably heel/toe. I was wondering if there is a brake pedal available that is not bent. This would place the pedal in a position that would work quite well for me.

I could bend the current pedal, but am reluctant to do so.

Thanks,

Andy

If you open up the pedal box cover you will see the pedals are on a long rod. I was able to take the pedals off and move the spacers around to get the relative side by side alignment of the pedals better for heel and toe. I seem to recall the pedals were only secured by a cotter pin.

That said I also bent a pedal once to get it better aligned - two pieces of pipe and bent it around a light pole with a hefty friend helping.

I had the same problem with my 2005 SV. The brake pedal was so far away from the gas pedal (and so very small) that there was no way on Earth to "heel and toe" (actually "ball of foot and outside edge of foot) while downshifting.

The solution was to remove the pedal from the car and, using a hydraulic press and a few steel fixtures, slowly bend it in a couple of places to move it over toward the gas pedal. After that, I mounted an inexpensive set of pedal covers to finish up the spacing issues and to provide more surface area than the factory setup. It completely changed the driving experience as everything (shifting, braking, clutching) was so much easier afterward.

Nick,

That's it! The pedal Caterham should have made :).

I have a 25 ton press so I suspect bending the pedal is possible. How did the metal fare in the process and did you bend it cold? I assume you now have a few miles of "testing" at this point!

Yeah, we just bent it cold as it wasn't "hardened steel" or the like. As I mentioned, we proceeded slowly, doing a bit of a bend and checking it in the car each step of the way until it was just where I wanted it. That was seven years and many miles ago.

Nick,

Finally got around to "adjusting" the brake pedal yesterday. It went well, essentially I flipped the existing bends and added about 2deg to each. I'm now thinking about doing the clutch pedal so I can add a small dead pedal in the foot box. Thanks for the help.
