Caterham registration in Oregon

I’m considering a Caterham and I live in Portland, the car I’m looking at (a Sigma-engined car a few years old) is currently registered in another state. Will I have any problem registering it here? Thanks!

Greatly depends on how it's registered in the other state and what requirements your state has.

Some 7's are registered as a kit, or a 1965 replica or a "2001" Caterham.

Typically if it's registered as a "2001" it will have to abide by "2001" standards. IE it will be an OBD2 car.

If it's a 1965 it will typically be exempt. If it's registered as a kit or a specialty construction it will typically be exempt as well.

Check LocostUSA  I think there are several builders in OR. Kinetic is also located there. Caterham s have come up for sale there so i expect it can be done within reason (unlike some States where it’s nearly impossible). There may also be local/PDX regulations & inspections to check for

As others have said, check the title for how it is described.  Assuming it is its year of kit build (e.g. 2013 Caterham Seven) then for research I would head to the SEMA website.  They have a 50 state guide to titling and registering replica cars

Everything You Need to Register and Title Your Hobby Car in All 50 States | SEMA ACTION NETWORK (semasan.com)

After this, I would head to the OR DMV site and trawl it for forms/information or track down the person in the DMV in charge of this area and talk through what you have to do.  The trick is finding the right person to talk to.  The local DMV office is generally not going to know as they do not see this stuff daily.

It can be done.  I know of a quite a few cars in OR from just reading this forum over the years.  One club member is listed on the Community Map (top of screen) - maybe PM him?   Wait a bit on this thread and some others may surface - my memory of who is in OR is failing right now.
