Sand casting in aluminum would be much easier. Most castings are rough because of the technique and grade of sand close to the mold. Fine detail can be transferred with no machining required except sprue removal. There is a small percentage of shrinkage as the part cools but the pattern could be printed or modded to be slightly oversize to compensate.

I wouldn’t call that ”easier”… vs cutting a piece of stock and pressing a button. 😄

I made today some speaker delete covers for the Exige, very similar to what those caps would be:

Needs a blast and black anodising next.

Ok, we made the “no step” signs in all 3 colors and I picked the black one. It is attached with gas proof rivets and a dab of ultra grey silicone:

The sign was formed to match the radius of the silencer with this simple setup: Loosely taped to a round shape and then tapped with a nylon mallet along the long edges, while pressing the opposite edge downwards with fingers.

This a little off topic, but the 7 is waiting for its new Pyrotec tank, so here a few other things that might be off interest to this audience as well.

Formula Renault is being prepped for paint, the monoque was in good condition:

And a designer friend came up with a new paint scheme (Renault Liquid Yellow). The car seems to have been yellow, blue and red in that order during its racing days:

I also have mahogany barrel back boat project in the works, which will be powered with an L83 V8 driving a water jet. The engine is a bit too high, so I made a new low profile oil sump for it. I should have clamped it to a thick plate during welding, as the flange distorted quite a bit... I knew it would, but somehow I though it would be ok (= lazy...!)

And the Pyrotect custom tank finally arrived - so far all looks good, I just need to find imperial socket heads to mount the the Nuke CFC Unit, which is designed for M6 socket heads. It didn’t even cross my mind, as Pyrotect sells standard tanks directly to Nuke as well.

The welding is just awesome on it, but unfortunately it will be also a constant reminder of a level, that I will never reach…

I’ll need to remove the roll cage from the 7 to swap tanks next.
