Caterham Wheel Garage Sale

We're moving into a new house so it's a good time to clear out some of the stuff I'm not using that's just taking up space.

First up: a mixed assortment of Caterham wheels. 

 

2 New 13x7 Minilight wheels with deep recessed rims. Good for rear.

2 Used 13x6? Minilight with never used Toyo Proxes R888R tires Date code 0318 (March 2018)

3 Used CSR 15x7 rims

 

All are in very good condition. 

Take the whole bunch, or what you need. 

 

$100 each? Negotiable.

John - the Caterham Orcus wheel you refer to as "CSR" was also done for De Dion chassis (post 2010).  It will depend on the offset.  The CSR wheel was the same as the DeDion wheel but with some machining to get the correct offset.  You may just have the Orcus wheels for a De Dion car.

I didn’t realize there were different versions. Further inspection reveals all three are 15x6.5 (not 15x7) and they have a variety of other markings inside that I don’t understand. Here are a few pics of the inside.

Fyi the stamped offset will be the same for CSR and non CSR as they machine the same existing wheel down to new offset.

 

I'm not sure how you tell the two apart otherwise

ET13 is the marked offset for the standard Orcus wheel.  The CSR was then machined to ET38 (or possibly ET40) without changing the stamped offset code.

A potential buyer will need the actual offset measured to know what they are buying.

Wow, that's a can of worms...

As best as I can measure, the wheels are 7 3/8" wide (edge to edge) so the centerline is half that, or 3 11/16" or 3.6875"

The outside of the inner edge is 4 5/16" or 4.3125" from the machined surface.

So the Offset is 4.325" - 3.6875" = 0.625" or 5/8" Positive Offset, or about 16mm

Another way of doing this - bring one of the wheels and we will compare it to my CSR fronts in my NJMP garage.  Then we will know.

The 13" wheels are sold and I'm bringing them to NJMP for delivery so I'll bring the 15"s along as well. 

Worst case, we can use them for the "Boobie Prizes"

Wheel rims are measure from inside tyre bead to inside tyre bead so 6.5 inch rims.  By your measurements take the difference from 7.3/8 ths wide and you are in the ball park  for De Dion chassis, standard Orcus wheels.

 

I would love those wheels but Australia might be a bit far away to come get them.

Actually. the buyer of the 13" wheels realized they wont fit his bolt pattern so they're still for sale too.

I mounted a brand new set of Toyo Proxes R888R 205/60R-13 to the rear wheels.

I'm bringing the whole lot to NJMP this weekend.

Who wants them?

Hmm,  I wonder what it would cost to ship all these wheels to Australia.  I don't know if UPS or DHL would even carry them.

 

Does anyone here have any contacts for overseas shipping?

Shipping will be ugly via Fedex, UPS or DHL.  One off the wall suggestion - there is a guy with a Holden Torana in California.  I came across him by accident on a Holden forum and we corresponded as I was needing shipment assistance at the time for Holden parts on my Blue Meanie. I somehow have managed to lose his email as it was back in 2015.  His name is Jeff here:

Nice guy in my dealings.  He is an importer/exporter between Los Angeles and Melbourne and you may be able to get the wheels into one of his containers.  Only catch is John's wheels are in NJ, about an hour south of NYC by car.

Hi Mike,  Wow, you have no idea how impressed i am that someone in the US even knows what a Torana is.  I worked for GMH in the experimental engineering section at Fishermans Bend years ago and I have owned 3, L34 Toranas.  All Toranas are way overpriced now though especially the A9X and L 34 variants with prices starting around $250K up to 2 million for the Brock 1979 A9X, I could have bought that car for $36K when he sold it!

 

I will see if i can track Jeff down.

There is a reasonable network of Holden owners in the USA - we have a loose connection with each other.  I know a guy with a collection of Valiant Chargers and another with a bunch of XD/XE utes.  It takes all types.   Mine below.  Bought long ago before the value run up.  The SS (not A9X) is a replica livery although was raced long ago - needs bare metal restoration.  Slowly getting into taking the Blue Meanie restoration seriously - the current value of it scared me into it.  The Torana and Blue Meanie are road registered here.

I take it you know the story of the red and white Marlboro Torana,  Brock was 6 laps up after 1000 klms of racing and set the lap record on the last lap in that car.  You have some great cars there Mike.  I need to get out more, I had no idea anyone in the US had any interest in cars from Australia.
