Vinman1 Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 In need of a complete wiper assembly for my 1979 RHD Seven. I believe they came from the Mini, just not sure of cutoff years. Moss has parts from 1969 on. Would be happy with a decent used on that came off a Seven. V
MV8 Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Looks like it would be an on/off toggle, no self-park, not intermittent, and one speed. The gear stroke is probably less than a 115deg sweep. I'd work backwards from the appropriate wiper arm to determine the wheel boxes with the right pin type. Newer, more common motors with more functions could be used with just a toggle but the stroke could be critical with a fixed windscreen frame to wiper box distance. A three position toggle could provide two speeds. Self park just means operating it to allow it to park before installing the arms. Intermittent is a bit more complicated.

CarlB Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 I believe you will find the wiper motor is the same one used in all the British sports cars. Moss has them. The wipers are moved through a cable inside a tube and that is different for different cars. In the late 60s the motor changed to two speeds and the earlier one I believe has been discontinued. Here is some information that might help. I downloaded this off the web and there are some duplicates. I did not want to use the Lucus switch that is made to work with the wiper motor. Vinman1 Posted November 12, 2022 Author Posted November 12, 2022 Thanks guys for the reply and great info. Since I do not have a core, I am leaning towards getting part # 60027020A from Caterham. They have informed me that the wheel box spacing will not be correct, but I believe the spacing can be modified by trimming the tubes.
MV8 Posted November 12, 2022 Posted November 12, 2022 If the wheel box location on your car is not closer to the windscreen vertical frame, the arms and blades are not longer, and the blades do not mount at a different angle on the arm, then the s3 gear should work. The gear determines the stroke from how far the link pin is off center, how far the spring moves back and forth in the tube, and ultimately how far the arm will swing back and forth. Hopefully the difference in spacing they were referring to is between the wheel boxes. It would help to know how many degrees the system is so you could make a template for minimum wheel box distance to the vertical frame.

Had to shorten and re-flare the tubes between the motor and left wheelbox and the tube between the wheelboxes, and make / flare a longer tube after the right wheelbox. No big deal at all. With shipping, still worked out better than getting just the motor (with no core return) this side of the pond V 2
Vinman1 Posted December 20, 2022 Author Posted December 20, 2022 FYI on the pic of the wiper motor set up. I slid tygon tubing over the wiper metal tubes and zip tied them, just for added protection between them and wiring
