southwind25
Hello All, Robert and Mary kansa here from akron ohio. We are currently in the process of simplifying our stable, and are considering replacing a couple of our austin healeys with either a lotus 7 replica, or a dare ginetta g4. We currently also own a 1966 ginetta g4. We are looking to perhaps find someone local, to simply take a look at one of the lotus 7 replica's, see if it what we would consider investing effort-time and money into. They all look like great cars if proper attention is put into them. the Caterham. the westfield, the locost..etc. This is just to try and determin if a lotus 7 style is what would work best for us at all. We are ex-vintage racers, looking to get into something fast, light, fun, (sorta) easy to maintain. Something we can even take on a weekend trip, go on a road ralley or cruise in the summer a bit, and have fun at the local auto-x on occasion. The car would be a comprimise but we want something very usable and not something that's going to sit in the garage. We dont want to get into a miata, bmw m3, mr2, solctice etc...thats not us. anyone local would mind taking us for a drive?
sporqster
Have you seen the 7 -'Frappr Map'? http://www.usa7s.org/aspnetforum/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=1127 Welcome!
Al N.
I think you have a few folks up your way Mike R., Mike M....maybe Frank F. will want to sell his crossflow when he gets done building the CSR? Or is his wife taking that car when he's done?
Kitcat
Someone on this board, who has a 7, lives in Canton, OH, sister city of Akron, not sure who. My hope is to do a track day at Nelson's Ledges (about 45' northeast of Akron) at end of the month (Fri 10/26). If that happens, feel free to stop by, check it out & even and go for a ride with me around the track (bring your helmet). I guarantee you won't be bored! I work right in canton.. saw someone from the map in cleveland, with the zetec option we would consider.
Mike Rohaley
Hi Robert and Mary and welcome to the group. I live about an hour from you in Mentor and would be glad to meet with you sometime and let you do some taste-testing. My wife and I have a 2001 Caterham which is nearly stock (Zetec engine and the DeDion rear end). I use it as my only car when the salt is off of the roads. While I am not looking to ever sell it I may be able to help you track one down should you find that it is what you are looking for. Shoot me an e-mail at president@calotus.com and we can arrange a get together. Mike & Jen Rohaley

WestTexasS2K
Gary Slutz is a Ohio resident with a very nice Birkin. He is on his way to Colorado right now but he will check in I am sure to the site. I cant remember exactly where he is located in OH. Run and Gun is happening right now in St Louis but is over by noon tommorrow. There were 4 makes here for viewing and rides. It would have been a great place to ask questions and watch the 7s in action. Jerry E has most of the results written down and I am sure will have it posted shortly. gjslutz
Hi Robert and Mary. I'm in Colorado until the 20th or 24th. I have a very nice Birkin S3. So it You are welcome to stop down when I return home to check size & fit, as well as just get some first hand views of what is out there. my home # is the same area code as yours-236-5041 or cell while I'm away: 704-5686 Gary

scannon
Gary, Are you in the Denver area? If so, do you want to get together some afternoon or evening before you return to Ohio? I live 25 minutes North of downtown Denver. We might be able to get some other Se7en owners together for an impromtu drive and dinner. gjslutz
Skip, I'm down in the Springs, @ my son's house. We didn't bring the Birkin, with what the wife travels with I would have needed a large trailer. Thanks for the offer though. Gary
southwind25
Mike and jen, thank you! We appreciate the time you spent with us, even to know how to correctly say "caterham" Your car is simply awesome, and we know we would want the zetec ford type drivetrain. We were impressed and Mary as well, enjoyed it more than she thought she would. The "ride" quality was allot better than anticipated, and it was much more solid than we expected as well. It is nice to see this level of enthusiasm and are glad to see you enjoy the car as much as you do. Since we plan on using whatever we end up with as much it was nice to talk to someone who uses their car instead of just looking at it in a garage. The caterham is a great option for us. we would have to buy some narrow shoes though! Roberty and Mary Kansa
Mike Rohaley
It was fun for us too you know. It was nice to meet some like-minded enthusiastic people such as you and Mary. We would of course like to think that you would run right out and get one of your own but we are happy to have been able to at least give you some information to make the decision that is right for you. Either way, once you do get your garage space filled we will need to get together and find some fun back-roads. Mike
Al N.
Way to spread to help "Sevangelize" Mike and Jen. Of course you did tell them that not every car comes with an expertly built Tamiya JPE model, right?
Mike Rohaley
Nope, I didn't mention it actually. We talked for quite a while but I think that I may have only scratched the surface of what I could decribe about the experience of living with one. His other option of a Ginetta G4 with a similar powerplant and driveline interests me too, a very shapely car of perfect preportions. I found a really slick picture of one that showed it being dwarfed by an Elan! No matter which direction they ultimately choose to go in they will have a fantastic machine. Al N.
My "other" dream car at this point is a Westfield XI....though those Ginettas are cool.
Mike Rohaley
Wirewheel.com just got another early one in. That car has been on my list for a few years now also. Westfield is making them again. Unfortunately, I suffer from the too many cars, too little money problem.

southwind25
Dear lotus owners.. i couldnt quiet find a little smiley icon to express my feelings but IF i had a choice at this point, i would probably own a new dare/ginetta g4 AND one of your awesome "modern" 7's as well...and STILL keep my bugeye sprite.. But...it's a budget thing!:willy: So the sprite must go.. and we are trying to rebody the old ginetta g4 we have. yeah..reality sucks.. and we suffer with the same ailment! ours is worse after adding in the sailboat.. We are self made broke.. :ack: for what it's worth though..we bid on the green zetec 7 on ebay
