Good morning.

Is there an accepted paint number of formula for British Racing Green? Jaguar has one, but it seems almost black to me. Some manufacturers try to palm off Case Green (as in the heavy equipment manufacturer) or Hunter Green as BRG. Neither is really right. Thoughts?

When I had my Birkin BRG fenders repainted, I used the paint code from a '91 Miata BRG SE. It seemed identical to the original Birkin BRG color and I thought it looked very good. The paint code was HU and was solid BRG (no metallic) and no clear coat. The 2001 Miata BRG SE was the same color green but with a clear coat. Unfortunately I have no way to compare it to the BRG on my Caterham.

What year is your car, and is the BRG you are trying to match the original paint?

Are you planning to paint the car yourself?

If not, your local paint shop will be able to match the paint. If they are not equipped with the computer laser reader, their supplier of choice can get it from their manufacturer of choice.

As for BRG, even the "HU" (Mazda) or "1753,8461,HDJ, HFB, HER, and 753 (Jaguar) color codes will each come back with multiple "alternate mixes" that will each require a spray out card and most likely additional tweaking of the mix (down to 1/10th of a gram per toner used for the mix itself) to perfectly match your cars exact color.

Per Martin Phipps, Caterham archivist

Caterham BRG:

Axalta Centari paints (formerly DuPont)

For one litre:

Pigment code / grams

AM32 = 227

43 = 399

6 = 478

1 = 488

AK 100 = 997

also mentioned:

Ditzler #46446 / GN29 is similar

my comments:

Home depot and Lowes paint counters have a color identification device that will analyze a sample you bring.

They may have a paint code you can take to an automotive paint application.
