More deep thoughts by the ex-acting president of the Club...

I'm here in the office and have a crapload of work to get done so that this Monday doesn't suck worse than it has to, but thought I'd write a few thoughts on what I see as the current strong momentum/traction that the forum and associated club seem to be exhibiting now.

Great to see Jon making a pilgrimage down to MD for the recent Auto-X — not to mention offering West Coaster and dues-paying member Club Member Martin a guest drive...glad that Tom G. got to meet some of the guys behind the founding of the club too. And damn if just watching Norm's car rip and snort through that course didn't get me excited about Auto-X. Well maybe just a little...have to say that I may prefer "spirited drives" more, Box. Different strokes and all that. We'll see if the guys can con me into tracking Orange someday.

Also, a shout out to Jerry E. and the WCM/Stalker/Deman contingent for representing LSiSs in Run 'N Gun...the coverage and pix were great. I encourage everyone to follow suit if your Se7en is involved in some fun activity, whether organized or impromptu. The Automobile article will probably get some new eyeballs looking at the forum, and pix and write-ups of the various goings on will only help to spread the word/excitement about our little cars.

As Bernie L. prepares to run another SW7s Festival (the first under the USA7s banner!), I'm struck by how much this group and forum have grown in just a year. The camraderie is just inspiring. Many new folks seem to be reaching out...I recently fielded a phone call and some random emails to my personal Se7en site...and everyone seems really jazzed about the cars. I'm really amazed how people with and without cars are finding us/me.

Well, that's enough for now. I just wanted to say "Good on ya." to everyone...the oldtimers and newbies a like. I look forward to meeting you all at future events...including the next national in 2009. Maybe I'll get out behind the registration table more this time...:flag:

for 2009, we should definitely look to get some local help (high school kids??) to take over some of the functions, so the organizer gets to enjoy the event as well.

About Martin's trip, getting together with Jon W. is also worth a mention... it doesn't have to be an event... if you're going out of town, post up, and maybe a get-togther with another forum member from another part of the country happens. For me personally, that's the part I enjoy the most.

You mean you didn't enjoy getting pulled over by the constabulary in Shenandoah the most?:jester:

Yes, Jon W.'s hospitality and openess to a guy he's only met/corresponded with over the web is pretty amazing.

:iagree: and don't forget when it is freezing cold, snowy and salty back east and the Seven is in deep hibernation....it is prime blatting time in California! So, if anybody comes over here during Winter, let us know!

baloney! 3 layers of clothes and a light jacket last night on the way home, plus the doors and half hood up. It was perfect! and whats the deal with Cali autoXs costing 120 bucks to participate!?!?! Martin said that and he almost had to keep a few east coasters from fainting.

Never been, but seems to me to be expensive compared to typical prices elsewhere in Columbia, or anywhere else in South America .

Holy crap, it's not just the east coasters. It cost me $25 to take part in a Corvette autox yesterday (took FTD by a margin of over 3 seconds, heh heh heh). I'll be at a track day in a couple of weeks with no run groups, so there's a potential for hours of track time - and that's going to cost me $101. So, I get an autocross with a bonus track day thrown in for the price of a California autocross and a burger.

I know our prices are high but you have to realize we get four practice runs of four and the we get the official timed run which consist of one warm-up run and three timed runs but I now believe that we pay way to much compared to the east cost auto-x price that I paid ($30 as a SCCA member). When the gal at registration said $30 dollars please I had to ask her a second time and then picked my jaw up off the table as I was expecting a lot more money to be leaving my wallet.

Again thanks to all that I meet while back in the Phila area and I wish I had spent more time with all of you as you are a great bunch of people.

  • 1 month later...

Bump, just because.

I know I've been relatively dormant over here for the past few months. Kids started a new school in a fancy zip code about an hour away, my business needed attention that I hadn't paid to it while planning 7-7-7, I've trying my hand at blogging on a more public forum (Al's most recent Jalopnik post), and so on.

But with Mike R.'s recent post on cold air intakes and all the subsequent feedback from all points, I wanted to once again say that I'm damn proud of the USA7s forum and its participants.

I know there are other resources available to Se7eners, some of them very marque-specific, but I think this site — a relatively new entrant in the online Se7en world — has become a real "go to" place for Se7eners of all sorts, from all coasts and beyond.

I'm especially pleased to see more input from the West Coast owners, who have had their own robust forum and network of owners for years now. Thanks guys!

And finally, another hat tip to Mazda E. for setting this whole thing up in the first place.

The Forum is helpful?

Without the answers to my many dumb questions over the last 18 months, I wouldn't have had the guts to actually buy a Seven.

Without the for-sale section, I wouldn't have found the Seven I bought.

Without the tech section, I wouldn't be able to keep it on the road.

Plus, this Forum gives me my daily "Seven-fix", sort of like a methadone maintenance program for addicts. Except my irrational addiction is to Sevens and so far it has not been incapacitating, tho I do now have permanent ringing in my ears:).
